New Orleans Breakers at Memphis Showboats odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Michigan Panthers vs. New Jersey Generals odds and lines, with expert USFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The New Orleans Breakers (5-3) meet the Memphis Showboats (5-3) Saturday in a key Week 9 USFL South Division game at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in Memphis. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET (NBC/Peacock). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Breakers vs. Showboats odds, and make our expert USFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Breakers snapped a 3-game losing streak with a 24-20 win on a neutral field in Birmingham over the Michigan Panthers last weekend.

New Orleans narrowly covered a 3-point spread in Week 8, too, halting an 0-3 run against the spread (ATS). The Over (43.5) also cashed narrowly, by just a half-point, stopping a 4-0 Under run for New Orleans.

The Showboats struggled out of the gate, going 0-3 to start the season. However, they have pushed themselves back into the playoff picture in the South Division with 5 consecutive wins and 6 straight covers.

Defense has been a huge reason for the turnaround as Memphis allowed 33.0 points per game (PPG) in the opening 3 losses, and just 11.2 PPG since. The Under has cashed in 5 in a row for the Boats.

Breakers at Showboats picks and predictions

Prediction

Showboats 19, Breakers 16

Moneyline

MEMPHIS (-115) is the play at the Liberty Bowl Saturday afternoon as this Showboats team is really steaming along. The defense has been tremendous lately, and the offense has been good for 22 or more points in 5 of the past 6 outings.

New Orleans barely scraped by a poor Michigan team last weekend, and it suffered a 17-10 loss against these ‘Boats in Birmingham in Week 5. With the Showboats at home, the pro-Memphis crowd should get the Showboats enough energy for a 2nd straight win in as many tries against the Breakers.

Against the spread

MEMPHIS (-115) is a pick ’em, and there is no difference playing the moneyline or the spread in this particular matchup.

Over/Under

UNDER 42.5 (-110) might be my favorite play on the board.

The defenses for both of these teams have been stout lately, with New Orleans allowing 20 or fewer points in 4 of the past 5, including the first meeting with Memphis. The Memphis D has yielded just 56 total points in the past 5 games, unsurprisingly cashing the Under in each of the outings.

We had a total of just 27 points in the first matchup in Week 5 in Birmingham. Expect another defensive slog.

Michigan Panthers vs. New Jersey Generals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Michigan Panthers vs. New Jersey Generals odds and lines, with expert USFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Michigan Panthers (2-4) meet the New Jersey Generals (2-4) Sunday in a Week 7 USFL game at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Panthers vs. Generals odds, and make our expert USFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Panthers won and covered the 1st 2 games, but they’re 0-4 straight-up (SU) and against the spread (ATS) since Week 3. Michigan suffered its 1st loss of the season in a 28-13 Week 3 loss to New Jersey at Ford Field.

The Generals were unable to follow up that victory with much success, going 0-3 SU/ATS in the last 3 outings. The offense has struggled, averaging just 16.0 PPG after posting a season-best 28 points against Michigan in Week 3.

New Jersey posted 377 total yards of offense in that Week 3 matchup in Michigan, while the Panthers managed just 265 yards. The Generals averaged 8.8 yards per play, too, while the Panthers were good for just 4.1 yards per play.

The Under has cashed in 5 consecutive games for the Panthers, while going 5-1 overall for the Generals.

Panthers vs. Generals picks and predictions

Prediction

Generals 22, Panthers 13

Moneyline

New Jersey (-275) will cost you nearly 3 times your potential return. While the Generals topped Michigan (+220) on its home field back in Week 3, it’s still a rather risky bet. Jersey has dropped and failed to cover the last 3 games.

PASS.

Against the spread

NEW JERSEY -6.5 (-110) is worth playing lightly, as the wager comes with risk. The bad news is that the Generals have failed to cover the last 3 games. The good news is that the most recent cover came against Michigan +6.5 (-110) in Week 3, and that was at Ford Field.

The Generals should be able to run the ball well, whittling down the Panthers defense to a nub.

Over/Under

UNDER 39.5 (-110) is a bit risky, as this is a low, low number. In fact, it’s the first total in the USFL below 40 since Week 2.

However, the Generals offense has cobbled together just 16.0 PPG on offense in the last 3 weekends, while allowing 15.2 PPG across the previous 5 outings.

The Panthers have totaled just 43 points on offense in the 4-game freefall, or just 10.8 PPG. The defense has been fairly giving, yielding 23 or more points in each of the 4 outings. However, this game is unlikely to wander into the 40’s or higher.

Michigan Panthers vs. New Jersey Generals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Michigan Panthers vs. New Jersey Generals Week 2 odds and lines, with expert USFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Michigan Panthers (0-1) and New Jersey Generals (0-1) seek to bounce back from season-opening losses when they kick off the USFL’s Week 2 schedule Friday. Kickoff is 8 p.m. ET at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Ala. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Panthers vs. Generals odds with USFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Generals lost the league’s season opener 28-24 to the Birmingham Stallions. The Generals lost despite taking a lead with 1:56 left in the game on a K Nick Rose 47-yard field goal as the Stallions went 50 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown with 29 seconds left.

The Panthers lost to the Houston Gamblers 17-12 in their opener. They surrendered 17 first-half points and rallied in the second half but it wasn’t enough.

Panthers vs. Generals picks and predictions

Prediction

Panthers 24, Generals 17

Money line

Both teams were favored in their respective openers last week and both lost.

Michigan, despite not scoring in the first half, moved the ball offensively. They turned the ball over once and then turned the ball over on downs in the red zone in the first half and the defense held the Gamblers to only 10 offensive points, as the other touchdown was a defensive score.

The Generals played in a back-and-forth game that came down to the wire.

If the Panthers can convert their drives into points, they should be okay.

Take the PANTHERS (-120).

Against the spread

With the exception of the game between the Tampa Bay Vipers and Pittsburgh Maulers, all the spreads were 2.5 points. Both the Generals and the Panthers were the favorites in Week 1, only to suffer straight-up losses, in addition to failing to cover the spread.

With a one-point spread, because there are no ties in the USFL, it leaves only the possibility for a push if the Panthers only win by one, so an ATS bet on the Panthers is ever slightly more valuable than the money line.

Take PANTHERS -1 (-110).

Over/Under

Every game last week in the league had projected totals of 40.5-43.5. Only the Generals’ game hit the Over.

The question is whether or not the types of games change this week.

The Generals put up 24 and the Panthers should have had at least 20 last week.

I LEAN OVER 40.5 (-122).
