The Philadelphia 76ers are still in the process of picking up the pieces following a tough 2019-20 season, but they might have the right people leading the way considering the amount of money their managing group is worth.

Sixers managing partner Josh Harris has come in ranked at 129th and Michael Rubin has come in at 228 on Forbes list of the top 400 wealthiest Americans of 2020. Harris is worth $5.1 billion rising from the $4.4 billion he was worth in 2019 and Rubin is worth $3.5 billion rising from his $2.9 billion worth in 2019.

The Sixers managing group has put their wealth to good use recently donating money to fight systematic racism as well as fighting hunger during the pandemic. It shows that they are smart businessmen while also helping others during a time of need.

Harris and Rubin–as well as Elton Brand–now need to turn their focus to the future and help the Sixers get back on the championship path that they so can put the 2019-20 season behind them. [lawrence-related id=37569,37557,37563]

Michael Rubin has never been one to sit around the house idly, and especially not one to watch live television. But these shelter-at-home days have forced many into uncomfortable and unusual positions as people collectively attempt to diminish the spread of COVID-19. Rubin’s days had been filled with hours of unsettling CNN consumption until he plotted ways to combat the bad news scrolling on those chryons at the bottom of his big screen.

“I’m the type of person, I really believe every negative has to be turned into a positive,” Rubin, the billionaire e-commerce entrepreneur and partner of both the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils, said in a telephone interview with The Athletic. “That is my fundamental belief. Whatever you throw at me, I’m going to figure out a way to make it positive. That’s the approach I take with this.”

Shortly after the idea popped into his head, Rubin picked up the phone and called his good friend, rapper Meek Mill – “Meek’s like a brother to me,” Rubin said – to see what he thought. Meek Mill, whose real name is Robert Rihmeek Williams, first told Rubin that he was one of those kids who worried about where his next meal came from, growing up in North Philadelphia. Then, he asked Rubin why he planned to limit the effort to just athletes. “Why wouldn’t you do this with artists like me, or celebrities like Kevin Hart?” Rubin recalled Meek Mill telling him. “So, I said, ‘You’re right. Let’s do this with athletes, celebrities and artists.’ He said, ‘Great. I’m in.’ ”

Sixers co-partner Michael Rubin explains reason for All-In challenge

Philadelphia 76ers co-managing partner Michael Rubin details the beginning of the All-in Challenge.

The All-In Challenge has swept the internet with athletes and celebrities offering seriously incredible grand prizes for people to bid on and the money raised goes towards feeding people in the fight against coronavirus.

It originated when Philadelphia 76ers co-managing partner Michael Rubin began thinking of the idea with Philadelphia native rapper Meek Mill and it all snowballed from there.

My first phone call was to Meek, I said ‘Meek, I’ve got this crazy idea. I want to do something called the All-In Challenge to signify people going all in’ and I said to Meek ‘I want to have every athlete donate an incredibly prized possession or once in a lifetime experience.’…I think it’s symbolic of how people are stepping up as a whole.

Since Rubin introduced this, most of the Sixers have gotten involved. Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid, Allen Iverson, and the Sixers organization have all been involved with this to help others during this trying time. [lawrence-related id=30136,30129,30118]
