Sean McVay shares hilarious admission about Michael Hoecht

If Sean McVay knew Michael Hoecht would be so good at OLB, he “would’ve done this (expletive) a lot sooner.”

Michael Hoecht had only played 15 defensive snaps before Week 12, and it’s not because he was hurt. He never played more than five snaps in a game prior to the Rams’ game against the Chiefs, but after the team cut Justin Hollins, Hoecht got an opportunity to play outside linebacker instead of his traditional position of defensive tackle.

It turns out, Hoecht is a really good edge rusher.

In the last two games, he has seven pressures, two sacks and a forced fumble. Sean McVay said Monday he wishes he realized sooner how good Hoecht would be at outside linebacker because he would’ve moved him a while ago.

Hoecht has worked himself into a starting spot opposite Leonard Floyd and done an excellent job, putting him in the conversation to have a legitimate role at that position next year. He already has as many sacks as Terrell Lewis and Justin Hollins had combined, which says a lot about how little production Los Angeles got out of those two players.

Hoecht has exceeded all expectations so far and it’ll be fun to watch what he does in the final five weeks of the season.

The Los Angeles Rams were unable to put an end to their losing streak in Week 13 versus the Seattle Seahawks. The Rams suffered a 27-23 loss to the Seahawks, dropping their sixth straight game.

The reigning Super Bowl champions are now 3-9 this season and Sean McVay is running out of solutions for all of the injuries on the roster. Los Angeles shouldn’t use injuries as an excuse for Sunday’s loss to Seattle, though, as the Rams had a shot to win with the defense needing a stop late in the game.

Following another heartbreaking loss for the Rams, here are six immediate takeaways from the divisional showdown versus the Seahawks.

5 Rams to watch in Week 13 vs. Seahawks

The Rams will square off in an NFC West matchup in Week 13 vs. the Seahawks and we have 5 players to watch on Sunday.

The Los Angeles Rams are set to host the Seattle Seahawks in Week 13 for the first meeting between the NFC West foes this season. While the Rams have had the Seahawks’ number recently with an 8-3 record (including three straight wins) since Sean McVay arrived in 2017, these teams are in different spots in 2022.

The Seahawks have overachieved with a 6-5 record after trading away Russell Wilson, which is only one game behind the San Francisco 49ers for the division lead. Meanwhile, the reigning Super Bowl champions are 3-8 and have lost five games in a row.

With the Rams looking to continue their recent success against the Seahawks despite being extremely shorthanded, here are five players to watch in Sunday’s NFC West matchup.

Watch: Michael Hoecht blocks Cardinals’ punt on opening drive

After getting a punt blocked by the Falcons last week, the Rams blocked one of the Cardinals’ on Sunday

The Los Angeles Rams are now even in the punt block category. After Riley Dixon had his punt blocked by the Atlanta Falcons last week, Michael Hoecht got a block of his own on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

On the Cardinals’ first punt of the game following a three-and-out, Hoecht broke through the line and got his left hand on Andy Lee’s punt for the block. Jake Gervase caught the ball in the air and set the Rams up at the 35-yard line.

They turned that into three points with a field goal after the drive stalled at the goal line, but it was a key play early on.

Rams place rookie Terrell Lewis and Michael Hoecht on reserve/COVID-19 list

The Rams have placed two players on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

The Los Angeles Rams were one of eight teams left in the NFL without a player on the reserve/COVID-19 list, but that changed on Friday. The team announced that it has placed defensive lineman Michael Hoecht and rookie outside linebacker Terrell Lewis on the list.

That doesn’t necessarily mean they have COVID-19, but they could have come in contact with someone who is infected. Teams are required to place players who test positive or come in contact with someone who has the coronavirus.

Lewis and Hoecht can be activated off the list after 10 days, or after five days and if they have two negative tests within a five-day span thereafter.
