Michael Dunn’s My Cause, My Cleats highlight his comeback from chronic illness

Cleveland Browns offensive guard Michael Dunn’s cleats will highlight the Chron’s and Colitis Foundation as part of the NFL’s My Cause, My Cleats

On Monday night, Cleveland Browns guard Michael Dunn’s first steps on the field against the Denver Broncos will be special for the veteran.

Dunn’s cleats will adorn the Chron’s and Colitis Foundation as part of the NFL’s My Cause, My Cleats. The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding cures for Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis.

Dunn was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at the start of the season. Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease that causes ulcers and inflammation across the digestive tract. Dunn battled the symptoms during training camp.

Dunn lost thirty pounds in training camp as he competed through the grueling summer workouts while struggling to eat and refuel. Dunn relied on intravenous therapy to rehydrate throughout camp.

After the team returned from the Greenbrier, the training staff eventually got Dunn to the hospital. Dunn was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at University Hospital. He stayed there for four days at the hospital with his wife learning about the autoimmune disease and how to manage it. The couple discovered the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation during their stay.

Dunn started the season on the NFL’s reserve/non-football illness as he started to manage his illness. Dunn returned to the team in October and has seen plenty of action. The utility lineman has started two games and played all seven since his return.

Browns designate three players for return from injured lists

Yes, one of them is Nick Chubb

Ahead of their Week 5 matchup against the Washington Commanders, the Cleveland Browns have officially designated running back Nick Chubb and two others for return from their respective injury lists.

Those other two players are running back and return specialist Nyheim Hines, and offensive guard Michael Dunn. Given the state of their return-ability and their offensive line, these two players are welcome additions back to the practice field.

This does not mean these players will be put back onto the 53-man roster this week, but it opens a 21-day window for the Browns to activate them and place them back onto the 53-man roster. Rookie defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. will also be returning to the 53-man roster next week after finishing out a five-game suspension.

The Browns did, however, clear a roster spot on Tuesday with the release of running back Gary Brightwell. Could one of these three players be closer than three weeks out from re-joining the 53-man roster?

OG Michael Dunn and Browns reportedly refuse to part ways

Death, taxes, and Michael Dunn in a Browns uniform.

Not much of an NFL rumor here as free agency continues, offensive guard Michael Dunn will return to the Cleveland Browns. How sure are we? His agent is the one who broke the news.

Dunn has been a valuable depth piece along Cleveland’s offensive line, who has stepped in and started games each of the last three seasons (six starts in total). This will be his fifth season with the Browns as he has become a beloved member of the team. The Browns have valued depth along their offensive line since general manager Andrew Berry took over, and it does not look like that is going to change this year.

With Joel Bitonio, Wyatt Teller, and Michael Dunn all still under contract in Cleveland, it is hard to find a better group of guards around the league. If one of the starters goes down again this year, it’s relieving to know that Dunn is still in the building to step up.

PFF’s 10 highest-graded Browns’ offensive players vs. Bengals

The second team struggled for most of the day

On Sunday the Cleveland Browns played nearly none of their starters on the offensive line against the Cincinnati Bengals to wrap up the regular season. In preparation for the playoffs, Kevin Stefanski opted to rest his starters and get them healthier for what they hope is a deep playoff run.

Jeff Driskel became the fifth different quarterback to start for the Browns in what has been a rollercoaster of a season. He struggled for the first three quarters without much production although he did have a few good throws in the fourth quarter including two touchdowns to wide receiver David Bell.

Cleveland did get an extended look at rookie Luke Wypler who played out of position at guard and did so rather well for a first career start. More good stuff from Nick Harris who was back at center with Ethan Pocic resting for the postseason overall the depth on the offensive line had a decent outing.

Here are the Top 10 performances from the regular season finale according to PFF.

Browns Injury Report: Juan Thornhill out, Dawand Jones questionable vs. Steelers

As the Browns look to make it five of their last six against the Steelers, they will be without Juan Thornhill and Marquise Goodwin

After starting the week with some uncertainty, the Cleveland Browns enter their matchup looking fairly healthy outside of the devastating loss of quarterback Deshaun Watson. In this game, only wide receiver Marquise Goodwin and safety Juan Thornhill have been ruled out against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite being listed as questionable, standout rookie offensive tackle Dawand Jones has stated he is good to go on Sunday.

Despite Michael Dunn returning from Injured Reserve, the Browns will start Geron Christian at left tackle once again, meaning Joel Bitonio will not kick out as he has done once before. If Jones suffers a setback before gametime, the Browns will start James Hudson III at right tackle in his absence again.

The Browns have released their final injury report as their preparation for the Steelers is complete, with just a total of four players on Friday’s edition. Here are the only players to appear on Friday’s report.

Browns Injury Report: Denzel Ward returns to practice, Dawand Jones remains out Wednesday

The Browns get set to take on the Steelers shorthanded at QB and at RT with Dawand Jones. However, Denzel Ward returned to practice.

The Cleveland Browns got some devastating injury news on Wednesday, as it was announced that quarterback Deshaun Watson will miss the rest of the season with a broken shoulder. That is not the only concern with the Steelers on deck as right tackle Dawand Jones remains sidelined. On a bright note, however, cornerback Denzel Ward was a limited participant in practice as the Browns get set to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers despite leaving the game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Ward is not the only player to show up on the injury list, however, as there is a laundry list from Wednesday’s practice. A handful of players were resting on the first day of practice this week, so a bit of sifting through the names has to be done.

Here is the long list of players who did not practice or practiced on a limited basis as the Browns look to advance to 7-3 on the season against the Steelers on Sunday with an opportunity to take hold of the top spot in the AFC North.

Browns designate G Michael Dunn to return from IR

The Cleveland Browns designated offensive guard Michael Dunn to return from the injured reserve list

The Cleveland Browns announced they designated offensive guard Michael Dunn to return from injured reserve. Dunn is allowed to practice with the team for the next 21 days before being added back to the active roster. He can be added back at any point in the next three weeks.

Dunn is in his fourth season with the Browns. He is the backup guard for the team and has been used as the first extra offensive lineman when the Browns run their heavy personnel. Dunn played in four games this season before going on injured reserve with a calf strain in October.

The Browns could use his services as the offensive line room has been trimmed down after injuries to Dawand Jones and Jed Wills Jr. The Browns needed some good injury news after it was reported franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson will miss the rest of the season with a broken bone in his rotator cuff. While a backup offensive lineman can never fill the hole left by a quarterback, football is a team game where every player is needed.

Browns place OG Michael Dunn on Injured Reserve with calf injury

He started on Sunday and hits IR on Tuesday.

The Cleveland Browns will enter Week 7 with one less offensive lineman on their active roster. Despite starting in the win over the San Francisco 49ers in place of the injured Joel Bitonio, offensive guard Michael Dunn has now been placed on Injured Reserve with a calf injury.

While Bitonio is expected back this week as the Browns travel to take on the Indianapolis Colts, the Browns will need a new backup in case his knee does not hold up after getting it scoped during the bye week. Both James Hudson III and rookie Luke Wypler have some experience playing guard with the Browns. Hopefully it does not come to that, but it will be interesting to see who would be designated as Bitonio’s backup from here on out.

This means, however, the Browns now have one more roster spot open, and there is a reason to believe that could be for quarterback P.J. Walker, who is not on the active roster as of yet.

Browns: All-Pro guard Joel Bitonio had knee scope during bye week

The Browns will be without their All-Pro guard on Sunday.

After being surprised that Joel Bitonio had left the stadium in crutches two weeks ago, head coach Kevin Stefanski revealed he had also gotten a knee scope during the bye week. This will sadly end his impressive 102-game starting streak when he misses Sunday’s game as the Cleveland Browns get set to take on the 49ers.

The team already had its work cut out for them facing one of the league’s best teams and the task got taller. The team did not give any timetable for when the All-Pro left guard will return to the field.

The team will now turn to veteran Michael Dunn to fill in at left guard who has had some success with the Browns. Dunn will be a drop of course as it’s not easy to replace Bitonio and he has a massive test coming against San Francisco’s defensive line. The Browns will look to rally despite all the injuries to try and give the 49ers their first loss of the season.
