Philadelphia offensive lineman Michael Carroll updates Rutgers football recruitment, South Carolina offer

Michael Carroll updates his recruitment after offer from South Carolina.

This weekend, Michael Carroll was offered by Texas A&M, marking what is now the second Power Five offer for the offensive lineman from Pennsylvania. Carroll was offered by Rutgers football in late May.

Carroll, a 6-foot-5 guard for La Salle College (Philadelphia, PA), now counts offers from Rutgers, Temple and Texas A&M. But other schools are beginning to get involved in his recruitment.

Things are going well for Carroll with Rutgers as he continues to build a relationship with the Big Ten program. They are his closest Power Five offer to date.

Following his offer this weekend, Rutgers Wire caught up with Carroll and asked him how things are going in his recruitment, specifically Rutgers.

“They’re great! Coach Pat Flats (offensive line coach Pat Flaherty) and coach Matt Walp (director of player engagement) have been doing a great job staying in contact with me and making me feel like a priority. They are going to be coming to one of my games this year,” Carroll told Rutgers Wire.

Flaherty joined the Rutgers staff this offseason, having spent the previous two decades in the NFL. He won two Super Bowls with the New York Giants as their offensive line coach.

Carroll said that in terms of his his interest, “Obviously (Rutgers) is still extremely high on my list!”

“Rutgers is such a good program and has such great coaches,” Carroll said. “Greg Schiano and Coach Flats have a whole lot of experience with the NFL as well.”

This weekend’s offer from South Carolina is a big deal for Carroll’s recruitment. It came after he performed well during a lineman camp.

He was taken to a practice building where he met with offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley and head coach Shane Beamer

This was when coach Teasley and head coach Shane Beamer and Pete Lembo (associate head coach) told me I really impressed them with how light I was on my feet, how athletic I am, and the power that I have,” Carroll said.

“They said I have everything they are looking for and more. Then I was offered and we took a picture outside of the building with the stadium in the background.”

Carroll plans to visit Michigan State on June 21.

Rutgers football recruiting: Michael Carroll gets his first SEC offer

Michael Carroll was offered by South Carolina this week.

Following a strong performance at camp, Michael Carroll was offered by South Carolina on Saturday. For the offensive lineman from Philadelphia, it marks his second Power Five offer and first offer from an SEC program.

He projects to be one of the top players in the region from next year’s recruiting class.

Carroll was offered by Rutgers in late May, becoming his first Power Five offer. Prior to the offer from the Scarlet Knights, Carroll held an offer from Temple.

He was a part of South Carolina’s camp for offensive and defensive linemen on Saturday.

A 6-foot-5 guard from La Salle College (Philadelphia, PA), Carroll is currently trending up in his recruiting and is ranked No. 12 in Pennsylvania’s class of 2025.

On Saturday afternoon, Carroll announced the offer from South Carolina:

In mid-April, Carroll broke down to Rutgers Wire where things stand with the program. This was several weeks before he was offered by Rutgers in late May.

“Things with Rutgers have been going smooth. I have just been hearing from them recently,” Carroll said in April. “I have been talking to Matt Hewitt  – (the) offensive quality control, assistant tight ends coach.”

Rutgers football is currently top 25 in the nation with their 2024 recruiting class according to Rivals and 247Sports.

Rutgers football offered Michael Carroll on Tuesday night. What two other Power Five schools called almost immediately after?

Michael Carroll breaks down his recent offer from Rutgers football.

Three-star offensive lineman Michael Carroll was offered on Tuesday night following his standout performance at a Rutgers football camp.

Carroll, a 6-foot-5, 295-pound interior offensive lineman at La Salle College (Philadelphia, PA), is a member of the 2025 recruiting class. Currently, he holds an offer from Temple as well as his Tuesday offer from Rutgers.

He said that from the moment he stepped foot on campus, he felt love and attention from the Rutgers coaching staff. The camp started with him getting weighed and measured prior to performing with the position coaches, [autotag]Pat Flaherty[/autotag] (offensive line coach) and [autotag]Scott Vallone[/autotag] (assistant offensive line coach).

“After camp, I was pulled into the head Greg Schiano’s office and we talked for about a little over 30 minutes, and then he offered me. He told me it only took two minutes of seeing me and then he knew,” Carroll told Rutgers Wire on Wednesday.

“I started breaking down crying with my mom because this offer means so much because it is my first Big Ten offer. I will definitely consider going there one day.”

One of the things that stood out for Carroll was the chance to work with the aforementioned Flaherty. Hired this offseason by Rutgers, Flaherty spent two decades in the NFL, where he won two Super Bowls with the New York Giants as their offensive line coach.

Flaherty was recently praised by Shaun O’Hara, the former All-Apro center of the Giants who also went to Rutgers. O’Hara said that Flaherty would be a key addition to the young Rutgers offensive line.

Now the offensive line coach at Rutgers, Carroll liked working with Flaherty.

“I interacted with coach Flaherty all day at the camp,” Carroll said.

“He was very impressed with my body composition and how lean I was for 294 pounds and he loved the effort I showed and how hard I compete.”

But that wasn’t all the fallout for Carroll from Tuesday’s camp. Two Power Five programs, one from the Big Ten and one from the SEC, reached out shortly after the offer from Rutgers.

More camps could be in the offing for Carroll, at least based off one of the calls he received.

“I am still figuring it all out, After I posted my offer, Michigan State and Georgia reached out and I was on a phone call with Fran Brown for a while. Georgia wants to see me at a Monmouth camp next week,” Carroll said.

“I have been talking to schools such as Maryland, Boston College, Virginia Tech, James Madison, Pitt, West Virginia, Wake Forest, Duke, Vanderbilt, Auburn, and Temple.”

Carroll mentioned Brown, the secondary coach at Georgia and a former Rutgers assistant. The call from Brown expressing Georgia’s interest in seeing Carroll was 15 minutes after Rutgers offered.

“He is coming up to Monmouth on June 8 and wants to see me workout at that camp and record me,” Carroll said of Brown.

Philadelphia offensive lineman Michael Carroll will visit Rutgers football this weekend

Michael Carroll will be visiting Rutgers football this weekend.

This weekend, Rutgers football will get a visit from one of the highly regarded high school prospects Michael Carroll. The Pennsylvania native is a 6-foot-5 guard drawing plenty of interest from around the country. He already has an offer from Temple, and on Saturday, Rutgers will be looking to show Carroll why his future should include a stop in Piscataway.

According to Rivals, he is a three-star recruit and the 12th-best prospect in Pennsylvania. He has been traveling the country with recruiting visits to James Madison, Boston College, and Maryland. For Rutgers, Carroll would be a welcomed addition as they look to improve offensively.

During the 2022 campaign, Rutgers finished 4-8 and struggled in conference play. Offensively they dealt with injuries and struggled to get the passing game going. Carroll could help make the offense more efficient by giving Rutgers quarterbacks more time to throw the ball.

While his visit is still a few days away, Carroll shared his excitement on social media. In a Twitter post, Carroll said, ” I will be at Rutgers University on April 22 to watch spring practice and a grateful for the opportunity.”

During his college tours, coaches have raved about Carroll’s strength, size, and athleticism. Those traits will be critical as Carroll builds on his high school success at the next level. For the Pennsylvania native, this weekend also represents a chance for him to work on his relationship with the Rutgers staff.

“I’m really looking forward to building a relationship with the Rutgers coaching staff, the offensive line coaches, and head coach Greg Schiano,” Carroll told Rutgers Wire.
