Former Badger F Micah Potter has a career-day in the NBA G-League

The former Badger has a big day in the NBA G-League

Former Wisconsin forward Micah Potter is finding early success in his NBA G-League rookie campaign. The Ohio native is playing for the Sioux Falls Skyforce, and putting up numbers as their starting center.

In a 106-99 loss to the Motor City Cruise on Tuesday, Potter put up 28 points and 15 rebounds, both of which were game-highs. To add to the Big Ten alumni flavor, he was matched up with Detroit Pistons center and Iowa Hawkeye great Luka Garza.

Potter went 11-19 from the field, and connected on three of his five three-point looks.

Here is a look at how Potter was able to put up the double-double:

Heat rookie Micah Potter showing upside in preseason after double-double

Potter now leads the rookie class in double-doubles and rebounding during the preseason.

Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra commended rookie Micah Potter for his physicality and ability to rebound on Thursday after a loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

Potter recorded 16 points, 16 rebounds and one assist in 29 minutes of work off of the bench, his second double-double effort of the preseason. He converted on 6-of-14 shot attempts from the field, including 2-of-6 from 3-point range.

His first double-double came on Oct. 8 with 13 points and 17 rebounds in a win over the San Antonio Spurs. He now leads the rookie class in double-doubles and rebounding during the preseason, two areas that have impressed the Heat.

Spoelstra said Potter has shown some upside so far in the preseason.

He rebounds well. He does have a knack for the ball. He plays with a level of physicality that, when he becomes more technical and understands our defensive system more, I think that’ll be an even better strength. Offensively, he does stretch the floor. He is good on dribble handoffs. Things we do in our system, he has shown some upside there.

Potter signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Heat and will spend the upcoming season in the NBA G League with the Sioux Falls Skyforce. The Heat have had tremendous success with their developmental efforts in Sioux Falls and Potter could be the next in line to benefit.

With a season in the G League, Potter can fine-tune some aspects of his game and continue to learn the Heat’s system. He has certainly shown some good things during his run in the preseason, something the Heat have to be excited about.

Miami wraps up the preseason on Friday versus the Boston Celtics.

Micah Potter is officially headed to an NBA training camp

The former Badger is one step closer to the NBA:

Former Wisconsin Badger Micah Potter will be headed to NBA training camp this fall.

After playing in NBA Summer League under an Exhibit 10 deal with the Miami Heat, the Ohio native has officially signed with Miami and will attend training camp with the Heat.

Potter played six Summer League games with the Heat and averaged 7.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks, while shooting 55.9 percent from the field and a perfect 2-of-2 from the foul line. In his best outing of the Las Vegas trip, he posted a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double while blocking five shots against Dallas.

Potter will have a chance to make a stacked Heat roster, but could also be retained by Miami to play with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, their G-League affiliate.

Micah Potter comes up with one of the best blocks of the week at NBA Summer League:

It was a strong finish to the 2021 NBA Summer League slate for Wisconsin product Micah Potter, who closed his campaign with a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double. Playing for the Miami Heat, Potter was backing up Omer Yurtseven for most of the week but got the start in his final game on Tuesday.

Perhaps the most impressive part of Potter’s day? The former Badger finished with 5 blocks, including one of the more impressive blocks we saw from anybody in NBA Summer League. On a fast break, Potter avoided being put on a poster as he blocked Feron Hunt’s dunk attempt. Here is a look at the best highlight from the Ohio native during his week in Las Vegas:

The former Badger has another solid NBA Summer League showing:

After a solid NBA Summer League debut for former Wisconsin forward Micah Potter, the Badger alum had another good showing in his second appearance.

Playing for the Miami Heat at the California Classic Summer League, Potter helped his squad improve to 2-0 with a 94-87 win over the Golden State Warriors. The Ohio native is backing up Omer Yurtseven, who has impressed so far through two games.

In 13 minutes, Potter scored 8 points to go along with a pair of rebounds.

Despite limited minutes, Potter went 3-5 from the field and finished well. Through two games, the former Badger is 7-11 from the field.

Up next for Potter and the Heat is the Las Vegas NBA Summer League, beginning on August 8.

NBA Summer League is up and running, as former Wisconsin stars look to make their mark and battle for a spot on a regular-season roster.

Last night, former Wisconsin forward Micah Potter made his Summer League debut with the Miami Heat. He finished the contest with 14 minutes played, 9 points, 1 rebound, 2 blocks, 4/6 shooting from the floor and 1/2 shooting from three-point range.

Here is a glimpse at some of his highlights from his first NBA action:

D’Mitrik Trice is reportedly trying out for a spot on the Milwaukee Bucks’ Summer League squad, so Potter may not be the only former Badger we see in action during this period.

Hopefully, more production is to come for Potter and Trice as they look to join Frank Kaminsky and Sam Dekker as the only Wisconsin products currently playing in the NBA.

Micah Potter signs Exhibit 10 deal with the Miami Heat

The former Badger big signs an NBA deal:

Former Wisconsin Badger big Micah Potter did not hear his name called in the 2021 NBA Draft, but will be joining a team for NBA Summer League and training camp at the very least.

Potter signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Miami Heat shortly after the conclusion of the draft. The deal essentially offers the former Badger a training camp spot with a bit of a twist. The Heat would have the opportunity to control Potter’s G-League rights if he doesn’t make the roster, and would also be able to convert his contract into a two-way, which Miami did last year with rookie Max Strus.

Potter will also be a part of Miami’s NBA Summer League roster.

The 2021 NBA draft has come and gone but the draft cycle still continues for a bit longer as the undrafted free agents find their new homes.

While the following prospects didn’t get to hear their name called by the commissioner or deputy commissioner on Thursday night, they can find solace in the fact that their path to the pros is far from over. It’s not unheard of for an undrafted free agent to carve out a role for themselves in the NBA.

Some notable names, including Gonzaga’s Joel Ayayi and G League Ignite’s Daishen Nix, will join the fraternity of undrafted basketball players who hope to still make a name for themselves in the NBA.

Here is where the best remaining prospects have landed so far, according to reports:

After the Philadelphia 76ers hosted former Wisconsin Badger Nigel Hayes for a free agent workout just a few days ago, they have now added another former Badger to their workout list.

It’s Micah Potter, a recently-departed Badger basketball player who is looking for an opportunity to play in the NBA.

Since Hayes has already played in the NBA and is years removed from his college career, his workout was a free agent one and not part of the team’s pre-draft schedule.

But Potter was in the building with other notable draft-bound former collegiate stars, including Luka Garza, Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and Austin Reaves.

The 76ers have the No. 28 overall pick in the first round of the NBA Draft as well as No. 50 overall in Round 2.

We’ll see just three days from now whether they chose Micah Potter with either of those selections.
