The Miami Hurricanes (3-6) take on the No. 1 Tennessee Volunteers (8-0) Tuesday evening in the Jimmy V Classic. Tip-off from Madison Square Garden in New York is set for 6:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Miami vs. Tennessee odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

The Canes have dropped 6 straight after a 65-55 defeat to the Clemson Tigers Saturday. G Nijel Pack, who leads the team with 14.1 points per game (PPG), had a goose egg as he went 0-for-7 from the field — all of which came from beyond the arc. Miami is decent from the floor as they’re tied for 42nd at 48.9%, and they’re 7th in the nation with an 81.2% mark from the free-throw line.

The Vols are undefeated, and they have covered in 7 straight after a 96-70 win over Syracuse Dec. 3 as 22-point favorites. G Chaz Lanier had a game-high 26 points as he went 4-for-10 from 3-point land. He’s averaging 18.8 PPG, and he’s shooting a robust 47.7% from distance.

Miami vs. Tennessee picks and predictions

Prediction

Tennessee 81, Miami 60

Moneyline

There is no bet here. The Vols may show some rust after being off for a week, but there’s really no chance for Miami to beat them unless it has recruited QB Cam Ward to inbound it darts down the floor for easy buckets.

I like NIJEL PACK OVER 11.5 POINTS (-125). He got shut out and embarrassed in the last game. He recently scored 22 against Arkansas, and 12 points seems very doable.

Against the spread

The Vols are 7-1 ATS, and Miami is 2-7. Tennessee has covered 22 and 37.5-point spreads in its last 2 games. There really isn’t any reason the Vols don’t cover this one.

Take TENNESSEE -14.5 (-110).

Over/Under

The Vols are 4-4 O/U, and Miami is 5-4. Both teams play at dreadful paces, and neither really lights it up from deep. The Hurricanes scored just 55 against Clemson, which possesses the 41st-ranked defense, while Tennessee boasts the 4th in the country.

Take the UNDER 144.5 (-110).
