MAC Championship Game: Ohio vs. Miami (Ohio) odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Ohio vs. Miami odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Ohio Bobcats (9-3, 7-1 MAC) and Miami RedHawks (8-4, 7-1) meet Saturday in the MAC Championship Game. Kickoff from Ford Field in Detroit is scheduled for noon ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college football odds around the Ohio vs. Miami odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Ohio is making its sixth appearance in the conference title game, while Miami will play in its seventh.

Ohio has always been the bridesmaid, but never the bride, losing all 5 of its appearances — the first in 2006, the last in 2022. While the Bobcats suffered a 31-10 setback to Central Michigan in ’06, they haven’t lost by more than 10 points in any of their title game trips.

Miami is 4-2 in MAC Championship Games, including last season’s 23-14 upset of Toledo as a 6.5-point underdog with the Under (43.5) cashing. The RedHawks are on a 3-0 straight-up and against the spread (ATS) run in the title game at Ford Field.

The Bobcats steam in with 5 consecutive wins and covers, with the Under going 3-1 in the past 4 outings. Ohio’s offense has amassed 35 or more points in 4 of those 5 games, while the defense has limited the opposition to 10 or fewer points in 3 of the past 4, including an impressive 24-7 win at Toledo as 1-point underdogs Nov. 20.

The RedHawks took the regular-season meeting as 3.5-point favorites vs. the Bobcats 30-20 at Yager Stadium in Oxford Oct. 19 as the Over (43.5) cashed. That was 1 of 7 straight wins for Miami since Oct. 12, while going 5-2 ATS during the span. The Under is 2-1-1 in the RedHawks’ past 4 contests.

Ohio vs. Miami (Ohio) picks and predictions

Prediction

Miami 23, Ohio 19

Moneyline

If you’re expecting a close game, and you probably should, MIAMI (-135) isn’t a terrible play if you don’t want to mess around laying the points.

Ohio (+110) has been generally competitive in all 5 of its MAC title game appearances. As mentioned, while the Bobcats have lost all 5 of those games, they kept it within 10 points in the past 4 showings, including one-score games twice.

Miami just knows how to get the job done in Detroit, even winning the last 3 MAC Championship Game there as underdogs. It will be interesting to see how the RedHawks respond as favorites in this one.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread

PLAY MIAMI -2.5 (-110) unless you’re absolutely sold that Ohio will win outright or the RedHawks will win but not by 3 or more points.

Miami has proven itself in this building, while Ohio is 0-for-5 in the MAC Championship Game. There is something to be said for that.

Over/Under

UNDER 44.5 (-115) is worth a look, but go with a half-unit bet at most.

First off, the Under has cashed in each of the past 2 MAC Championship Games. As mentioned Miami topped 23-14 last year. In 2002, Ohio lost to Toledo 17-7.

The defenses for both of these teams are nasty. Miami has allowed 12 or fewer points in 3 straight outings, and 4 of the past 5 games.

Ohio has a top-notch offense, but the defense has allowed 16 or fewer points in 4 of the previous 5 outings. We should see defense win the day Saturday afternoon.

Miami (Ohio) at Ohio odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Miami (Ohio) at Ohio odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Miami (Ohio) RedHawks (6-2, 3-1 MAC) visit the Ohio Bobcats (6-2, 3-1) on Saturday. Kick from Peden Stadium is set for 3:30 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Miami (Ohio) vs. Ohio odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Miami of Ohio fell 21-17 at home against Toledo last week, failing to cover as a 2-point underdog. QB Brett Gabbert threw for 179 yards and an interception in a 14-of-29 performance. RB Rashad Amos (10 carries for 55 yards) and RB Kenny Tracy (5 for 16) each had a rushing touchdown.

The Bobcats took down Western Michigan 20-17 last week while failing to cover as 16.5-point home favorites. QB Kurtis Rourke went 24 of 39 for 275 yards and a TD in the win, with top target WR Sam Wiglusz hauling in 10 receptions for 155 yards and a TD. RB Sieh Bangura carried the ball 15 times for 86 yards and a TD.

Ohio has won the previous 2 Battle of the Bricks matchups, most recently winning 37-21 to cover as a 2-point road favorite in 2022.

Miami (Ohio) at Ohio picks and predictions

Prediction

Ohio 31, Miami of Ohio 27

Moneyline

PASS.

Ohio has the advantage when it plays in front of its home crowd with a 4-0 record this season. Outside of a 23-13 loss on the road against Northern Illinois 2 weeks ago, the Bobcats have looked like the superior team in each of their past 7 games, going 6-1 in that span. At -275 odds though, there is not much profit to be made on a Bobcats’ victory.

Against the spread

LEAN MIAMI (OHIO) +7.5 (-110).

Three of the last 4 matchups between these schools have resulted in a single-score result as well as the underdog covering. Ohio has failed to cover the spread in each of its last 2 games, while Miami of Ohio is 6-1 ATS in its last 7. The Bobcats should be expected to win on Saturday, but expect a close game in this rivalry between the top 2 teams in the MAC East.

Over/Under

BET OVER 38.5 (-115).

As it stands, this total would be the lowest for either school this season. The Over hit in the 2 most recent matchups between the RedHawks and Bobcats, while the last time these teams combined for fewer than 40 points was in 2016 when the Bobcats beat the RedHawks 17-7. In the past 10 matchups dating back to 2012, Under 38.5 would only hold a 2-8 record; in that span, the lowest point total was set at 50 points (2013, 2016).

When these programs come together, expect a lot of points.

Miami (Ohio) at Buffalo odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Miami (Ohio) at Buffalo odds and lines, with expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The Miami (Ohio) RedHawks (12-18, 6-11 Mid-American) look to end a disappointing season on a bright note against the Buffalo Bulls (14-16, 8-9) in Alumni Arena Friday at 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Miami vs. Buffalo odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

This will be a shootout in Buffalo. The 1st meeting between these teams on Jan. 10 finished with the RedHawks winning 91-80 after Buffalo came in favored by 3 points.

Defense is optional when these teams play. Buffalo ranks 348th in the nation, allowing 77.4 points per game, while Miami is 295th at 74.2 PPG.

Despite the RedHawks scoring 91 against Buffalo last time, they only average 74.0 PPG. Buffalo’s offense ranks 43rd at 77.9 points.

With this game in Buffalo, the home-court Bulls will be able to score in spurts while Miami will have some trouble keeping up.

Miami (Ohio) at Buffalo picks and predictions

Prediction

Buffalo 88, Miami Ohio 82

Moneyline

PASS.

With both offenses being able to score, I am giving the edge to Buffalo playing at home. With the line being so high at -400, I am not willing to make a play and I would rather take a chance on the total of 152.5.

Stream select live college basketball games and full replays: Get ESPN+

Against the spread

MIAMI (Ohio) +8.5 (-110).

Miami is coming off a rare win this season. In its last 6 games after a win, the RedHawks are 5-1 ATS. They are also 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall.

On the converse, Buffalo is 1-5 ATS after covering in its prior game. It is also 1-5 ATS in its last 6 following an outright win.

Both teams go in different directions following a win this season. I will take my chances, but only slightly, with the underdog RedHawks to cover the large +8.5 number being offered.

Over/Under

OVER 152.5 (-110).

After getting to 171 in the prior meeting, this will be another game in which neither defense can stop the opposing offense.

Buffalo will also be able to score on a leaky RedHawks defense as both teams let it all hang out as the season comes to a close. Expect points and a lot of them. 152.5 is not high enough to avoid taking the Over.

Northern Illinois at Miami (Ohio) odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Northern Illinois at Miami (Ohio) odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Northern Illinois Huskies (5-12, 1-3 MAC) and Miami (Ohio) Redhawks (7-10, 1-3) meet Millett Hall in Oxford, Ohio. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). The Huskies were dusted at home 84-67 Saturday against the Toledo Rockets as 12.5-point underdogs. NIU has won just twice in the last 9 tries, going 3-6 ATS across the span. The Under has hit in 5 straight for the Huskies.

The Redhawks lost 75-61 at Ball State Saturday, failing to cash as 11-point ‘dogs. Miami has tasted victory a little more frequently than its counterparts, going a respectable 6-6 SU in the last 12 outings. Northern Illinois at Miami picks and predictions

Prediction

Miami (Ohio) 74, Northern Illinois 66

Moneyline

Miami (Ohio) will cost you more than 2 1/2 times your potential return, and that’s quite expensive anytime, let alone for a sub-.500 team.

AVOID.

Against the spread

MIAMI -5.5 (-115) is the lean, ever so slightly.

The home team is 4-1-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings in this series. More importantly, the RedHawks are 5-1 ATS in the last 6 tries against teams with a losing overall record. The Huskies are a dismal 2-5 ATS in the last 7 games overall, too.

Over/Under

UNDER 143.5 (-105) is the lean in this MAC tussle.

The Under has cashed in 5 in a row for NIU, while going 4-1 in the last 5 games against teams with a losing overall mark.

The Under is also 4-1 in the last 5 for Miami against teams with a winning percentage under .400, while going 4-1 in the last 5 following a non-cover, too.

Kent State at Miami (Ohio) odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Kent State at Miami (Ohio) odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Kent State Golden Flashes (11-3, 1-0 MAC) meet the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks (6-8, 0-1) Saturday at Millett Hall in Oxford, Ohio. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN3). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Kent State vs. Miami-Ohio odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

The Golden Flashes opened conference play with an 80-72 win over visiting Western Michigan Tuesday, although they didn’t come close to covering the 17.5-point number. After opening 10-0 ATS this season, Kent State has failed to cover the past 2 outings. The Over against WMU also snapped a 4-0 Under run.

The Redhawks were tripped up 68-56 at Central Michigan in their MAC opener Tuesday, and have alternated straight-up losses and wins in the past 8 games overall while going 1-4 ATS across the past 5 games with a spread. The Over is 3-1 in its previous 4 games with a total.

Kent State at Miami (Ohio) picks and predictions

Prediction

Kent State 76, Miami (Ohio) 67

Moneyline

AVOID.

You cannot play Kent State (-800), risking 8 times your potential return. That’s a silly long-term betting strategy.

Against the spread

MIAMI (OHIO) +11.5 (+100) will certainly have trouble trying to solve the defense of Kent State, which holds the opposition to just 61.6 PPG (31st) while limiting teams to 38.1% from the field (16th).

Miami’s defense is terrible, and that will be the difference in terms of a straight-up win and loss. However, the Redhawks are decent enough offensively, going for 75.0 PPG to hold their own, and Miami is one of the best free-throw shooting teams in the nation at 80.1% (5th).

Over/Under

UNDER 145.5 (-110) is the lean, although it’s only worth playing at a half-unit at best.

The Under has hit in 4 of the past 5 games overall for Kent State, while going an impressive 19-7 in the past 26 games on the road over the past few seasons. For Miami, it has cashed the Over in 14 of the past 20 games overall, but the Under did cash last time out in its only conference game to date.

MAC Tournament: Miami (Ohio) vs. Kent State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Miami (Ohio) vs. Kent State odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 7-seed Miami (Ohio) Redhawks (14-17) and No. 2 Kent State Golden Flashes (21-9) tangle in a Mid-American Conference Tournament quarterfinal matchup Thursday. The contest at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland is slated to tip off at 4 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Miami vs. Kent State odds and lines, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

Miami — which went 8-12 in placing seventh in the MAC — has registered a pair of five-game losing streaks on the season, but it enters this bracket off a pair of convincing wins to close out the regular season. Miami can often struggle on defense, and it did just that in going 3-9 from Jan. 25-Feb. 26. Over that stretch, Miami coughed up 78.3 points per contest. That stretch included a 78-65 loss to Kent State Feb. 1.

Kent State has won four in a row against Miami, while going 3-0-1 against the spread (ATS). The Flashes went 16-4 to place second in the MAC, and they enter this tournament as the conference’s hottest team. Kent has won 12 in a row, last losing Jan. 21 at Buffalo. Kent State plays at a slow pace and with an efficient defense. The Flashes have held foes to a 41.1% accuracy mark from the floor over their 12 straight wins.

Miami vs. Kent State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Kent State 70, Miami 69

Money line

Miami played poorly in its February loss to Kent State, but the Redhawks have been on a decent trend line since. The more veteran Miami five is worthy of being about a 33-35% choice in this contest. There is value in MIAMI (+220).

Against the spread

Threes are a big part of Redhawks’ game as they have connected at a 39.2% clip on such shots since Feb. 15. Kent may be due a bit of regression with its perimeter defense.

The Flashes are the better team, but the touchdown spread here is a bit much. BACK MIAMI +6.5 (-115).

Over/Under

PASS on a well-made total.

Bowling Green at Miami (Ohio) odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Bowling Green Falcons at Miami-Ohio Redhawks odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Bowling Green Falcons (3-7, 1-5 MAC) and Miami-Ohio Redhawks (5-5, 4-2) meet for a Tuesday 8 p.m. ET game at Yager Stadium in Oxford, Ohio. Below, we look at the Bowling Green vs. Miami odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Bowling Green was thumped by Toledo last week 49-17. The Falcons have lost five of their last six games, and defense has been a problem during that stretch. BGSU has coughed up 148 points over its last three games. For the season, the Falcons rank 107th in the nation, allowing 32.4 points per game.

Miami is coming off a 45-18 win over Buffalo. Defense has been a strength for MU. The Redhawks rank second in the MAC in scoring defense (23.1 PPG). The Miami offense has been inconsistent, but with a strong passing game leading the way, it has racked up 1,105 total yards over the last two weeks. MU is 3-1 over its last four games and is 4-0 this season at home.

Bowling Green at Miami odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Miami 38, Bowling Green 20

Money line

Miami would be the lean in the neighborhood of -700, which equates to an 87.7% win expectancy. But on this tag, let’s PASS and look to leverage the Redhawks minus the points.

Against the spread

Miami’s offense is a Tale of Two Cities … or of two small college towns in Southwest Ohio. The Redhawks have been a significantly better offense with QB Brett Gabbert. The sophomore signal caller missed two games in mid-October, and both resulted in ATS losses for Miami. Despite the missed action, Gabbert has thrown 18 touchdown passes against just 3 interceptions this season. He’s thrown for 843 yards over the last two weeks under the lights in mid-week “MACtion” contests.

MU hasn’t really thumped teams that often. Its 45-18 win last week was its only MAC game with a margin of more than 15 points. But look for Miami to find more success than usual in running the football, and peg the MU defense — one adept at creating havoc — as pressuring the Falcons into three or four turnovers.

BACK MIAMI -16.5 (-115).

Over/Under

The Over is 4-1 in the last five BG-MU games. Plus, the Falcons head into Tuesday night having played in five straight Overs this season.

Bowling Green’s offense has been really bad as a whole (outside the top 100 in yards and points), but it has been a slightly improved unit in under-the-surface ways in recent weeks.

On a decent-weather night in Oxford, look for the potential of a spiraling back-and-forth for enough of the contest to make the OVER 51.5 (-110) worth at least a partial-unit play.

Buffalo at Miami (Ohio) odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s Buffalo Bulls at Miami (Ohio) Redhawks odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Buffalo Bulls (4-5, 2-3 MAC) and Miami (Ohio) Redhawks (4-5, 3-2) tangle in a Tuesday night MAC East battle at Yager Stadium in Oxford, Ohio. The “MACtion” contest is slated for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff. Below, we look at the Buffalo vs. Miami odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Buffalo was favored by 13.5 points over Bowling Green in its last game (Oct. 30). Despite piling up 36 first downs, the Bulls fell to the Falcons, 56-44. Junior RB Dylan McDuffie toted the ball 34 times in the game against Bowling Green. McDuffie has become a big part of the Bulls ‘offense and has three straight 100-yard games.

Miami is coming off a two-point loss at Ohio. The Redhawks ceded a 28-0 lead to the Bobcats before nearly coming all the way back in that game. A staunch MU defense yielded just 68 points over its previous four games. Miami now returns home where it is 3-0 this season.

Buffalo at Miami odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Buffalo 31, Miami 28

Money line

The Bulls clocked a 52-10 win over Miami last season. Buffalo’s best offensive performances this season are at least fairly close in the rearview mirror. The run game, in particular, figures to be leveraged in this game. The Bulls have rushed for 200-plus yards in three of their last four games.

Miami has a decent amount of explosiveness to its offense, but that’s just about it. On defense, the Redhawks have gotten drive stops at a rate perhaps not consistent with the more porous defense played down the rest of the field. Buffalo staying within three or four points is a solid projection here. Pulling off a victory is probable enough to offer some value on a BULLS (+230) play.

Against the spread

Over the last 20 games it was lined as a home favorite of 7.5-or-more, Miami has gone 6-14 ATS. The Bulls are 7-1-1 ATS in their last nine games following an ATS loss.

BACK BUFFALO +7.5 (-110).

Over/Under

There is a minimum level of consistency needed to plug in offense expectancy and dial in on a range of score outcomes. Neither of these teams hits that minimum: STEER CLEAR OF THE O/U.

Miami (Ohio) at Minnesota odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Miami (Ohio) at Minnesota odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Miami (Ohio) RedHawks (0-1) and Minnesota Golden Gophers (0-1) meet Saturday at Huntington Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET. Below, we look at the Miami (Ohio) vs. Minnesota odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Miami heads to the Twin Cities after taking a 49-14 licking from the rival Cincinnati Bearcats last week. Now, the Redhawks try their luck against a mid-tier Power 5 conference member.

Minnesota put up a good fight against Ohio State in its Thursday home opener and led 14-10 at halftime. The Gophers couldn’t hold the lead and eventually fell 45-31. The game was very costly, too, as they lost leading rusher RB Mohamed Ibrahim to a season-ending lower-leg injury.

Miami (Ohio) at Minnesota odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Minnesota 31, Miami (Ohio) 17

Money line

Minnesota (-1200) is rather costly on the money line, as you would receive just $7.70 in profit on a $100 stake. That’s an awful return, and too risky for a team which is reeling after losing its best player last week.

AVOID.

Against the spread

For the exact reason I mentioned above, the loss of Ibrahim, I like MIAMI +19.5 (-112) catching the points. Minnesota has to make tremendous adjustments to its offense, and it’s difficult to replace a guy who had 163 rushing yards on 30 carries in less than three quarters against the high-flying Buckeyes.

It appears RB Treyson Potts, a redshirt sophomore, will be tasked with trying to fill Ibrahim’s giant shoes. Miami has some decent offensive weapons, especially WR Jack Sorenson, and it should be able to keep Minnesota within hailing distance.

Over/Under

UNDER 53.5 (-108) is the lean in this one, as it wouldn’t be surprising to see Minnesota get off to a rather sluggish start as it adjusts to life without the big man on campus.

Miami didn’t exactly light the world afire on offense last week, so it has work to do, too, before we start suggesting Over plays for the RedHawks.

Miami (Ohio) at Cincinnati odds, expert picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Miami (Ohio) at Cincinnati odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

To help kick off the opening weekend of NCAA football, the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks visit the Cincinnati Bearcats. The game is set to start at 3:30 p.m. ET and will be held at Nippert Stadium. Below, we look at the Miami (Ohio) vs. Cincinnati odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

Returning many starters including QB Desmond Ridder, the Bearcats will be looking to once against dominant the AAC. They finished last season 9-1 and 6-0 in their conference. Cincinnati is starting the season at No. 10 in the AFCA Coaches Poll power by USA TODAY Sports.

Miami was 2-1 last season but didn’t play an opponent of Cincinnati’s caliber. The RedHawks will be entering the game as massive underdogs on the road.

Miami (Ohio) at Cincinnati odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Cincinnati 45, Miami (Ohio) 17

Money line

PASS on the money line.

Even though Cincinnati should easily handle business at home and against an easy opponent, there’s no way anyone should drop any type of unit on the Bearcats at -1800. The possible return just isn’t worth the risk.

Against the spread

BET on CINCINNATI -22.5 (-108) as it’s returning its starting quarterback and has a drastically superior coaching staff.

Led by former Ohio State prodigy Luke Fickell, Cincinnati has a unit that’s worked together for the last few seasons and ran through the AAC. The Bearcats were 6-4 against the spread last season.

Miami (Ohio) QB Brett Gabbert found his rhythm during the short season last year, but I expect him to struggle against a side that allowed over 20 points to an unranked school just once in 2020 (and that was to a quality opponent in UCF).

Over/Under

BET on the OVER 49.5 (-110) as even when Cincinnati thrashed opponents last season it didn’t let off the gas.

Cincinnati put up over 30 points six times last year and topped 40 four times, as well. With Ridder returning, the offense should be just as good if not better.

Miami scored 38 points in two of the three games and gave up for 40 in the other. I’d be shocked if this one went under 49 total points.
