Mets at Red Sox picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Sox 6, Mets 4

Moneyline

The RED SOX (-145) are my play in Sunday night’s matchup considering how both of these teams have performed recently. Boston has won 7 of the last 8 meetings overall with New York.

Run line/Against the spread

RED SOX -1.5 (+125) has decent value with the Mets rolling out Carrasco. Boston has defeated its opponent by multiple runs in 7 of its last 8 wins.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

OVER 9.5 (-115) is how I’d play the run total with Carrasco drawing another start for the Mets. Both of these teams are top 6 in ISO, top 7 in wOBA, and top 8 in wRC+ against right-handed pitching since the start of July (Pivetta will likely pitch the most innings for Boston on Sunday).

Mets at Red Sox picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Sox 4, Mets 3

Moneyline

The RED SOX (-120) are worth a look at home with the southpaw Paxton on the bump.

While the Mets (+100) have been hot, Scherzer has been rather tepid on the road. The righty is just 6-3 with a 4.92 ERA on the road, while Paxton has been strong at home. Boston has won 5 in a row at home, too. Back the AL side to get the win in the 2nd game of this series.

Run line/Against the spread

The Red Sox +1.5 (-190) are too pricey if you just can’t trust Boston straight up and you would prefer some insurance instead.

AVOID, and just play Boston straight up for a better value.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

UNDER 9.5 (-120) might be the best play on the board.

While Scherzer has struggled on the road, he has still allowed 2 or fewer runs in 4 of his last 6 outings overall. The Under is 3-1-1 in his past 5 starts, too.

Meanwhile, the southpaw Paxton has yielded 3 or fewer runs in 7 of his past 8 outings. The Under is 2-1 in his past 3 home starts, too.

Mets at Red Sox picks and predictions

Prediction

Red Sox 5, Mets 4

Moneyline

With the Mets still failing show any consistency, I’ll back the RED SOX (-120) at home on Friday. The Mets are 22-29 on the road while the Red Sox are 26-22 at home. Also, Boston has won 17 of its last 28 games.

Run line/Against the spread

Crawford has pitched better in recent starts, but I’ll PASS on the run line in this game as the Mets should keep it close.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

UNDER 9.5 (-110) is the lean in this game despite Senga’s walk issues and Crawford’s inconsistent pitching. The Mets are 7-2-1 to the Over in their last 10 games overall while the Red Sox have gone Under in 30 of their last 53 games overall.

New York Mets at Boston Red Sox odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s New York Mets at Boston Red sox odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The New York Mets (73-78) and Boston Red Sox (87-65) are scheduled to play the finale of an interleague two-game set Wednesday at Fenway Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze the lines around the Mets vs. Red Sox odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Mets RHP Taijuan Walker (7-10, 4.27 ERA) makes his 28th start and 29th appearance. He has a 1.17 WHIP, 8.4 K/9 and 3.0 BB/9 through 149 2/3 IP.

  • Allowed 2 earned runs on 3 hits and 0 walks with 3 strikeouts across 5 IP in a loss against the Philadelphia Phillies Friday.
  • Has dropped seven straight decisions, and hasn’t won in 12 starts dating back to July 3, when he had a record of 7-3 with a 2.61 ERA.

Red Sox LHP Chris Sale (4-0, 2.40 ERA) makes his seventh start. He has a 1.23 WHIP, 9.3 K/9 and 1.8 BB/9 through 30 IP.

  • Allowed 1 run on 2 hits and 0 walks with 1 strikeout across 5 IP in a win over the Baltimore Orioles Friday.
  • Has allowed 2 or fewer earned runs in each of his six outings.

Prediction

Red Sox 5, Mets 2

Money line (ML)

The RED SOX (-180) are right at my personal limit for a money line wager. While I prefer a play on the run line behind the red-hot Sale, playing this one straight up isn’t terribly out of line.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

RED SOX -1.5 (+110) is the way to go at plus money

Sale has been untouchable lately, while Walker hasn’t had a victory since early July. Betting baseball is all about pitching matchups, and this one is greatly skewed in favor of the home side. This might be my favorite play on the board for the entire MLB card.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 9.5 (-135) is the lean here, and quite attractive, especially when paired with a Red Sox run line play.

While Walker has been coughing up plenty of runs lately, including 6 home runs in his last 15 1/3 IP over three September starts, Sale will keep the opposition down.

It’s always harder sweating out Under bets rather than Overs, but it will be worth it Wednesday.

New York Mets at Boston Red Sox odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Tuesday’s New York Mets at Boston Red Sox odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The New York Mets (73-77) and Boston Red Sox (86-65) open a brief two-game series Tuesday. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. ET at Fenway Park. Let’s analyze the lines around the Mets vs. Red Sox odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Mets RHP Marcus Stroman (9-12, 2.88 ERA) makes his 32nd start. He has a 1.12 WHIP, 2.1 BB/9 and 8.0 K/9 through 169 IP.

  • Has recorded a sub-3.00 ERA both on the road and at home this season, although the skills haven’t been quite as good across his 16 road starts. He has a 2.81 ERA and 7.8 K/9 and benefited from a .258 BABIP on the road.
  • He has always been good at suppressing homers and sports an excellent 0.7 HR/9 on the season. He hasn’t allowed a single home run over his last five starts.

Red Sox LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (11-8, 5.00 ERA) makes his 29th start. He has a 1.38 WHIP, 2.5 BB/9 and 10.4 K/9 through 142 1/3 IP.

  • Has struggled to the tune of a 6.32 ERA in 11 home starts this season, however his 65/15 K/BB in 52 2/3 IP is very strong and he doesn’t have a history of struggling at Fenway, so we’ll chalk this up to a small sample.
  • Had a stretch in which he recorded double digit swinging strikes in 9 of 11 starts, but followed that up by reaching the mark just once in his last six tries.

Mets at Red Sox odds, lines, picks and prediction

MLB odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 9:50 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Mets +120 (bet $100 to win $120) | Red Sox -145 (bet $145 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Mets +1.5 (-170) | Red Sox -1.5 (+135)
  • Over/Under: 9.5 (O: -105 | U: -120)

PLAY: Free, daily sports pick’em contests. Play now!

Prediction

Red Sox 5, Mets 4

Money line (ML)

The Mets have lost eight of their last 11 games and are pretty much eliminated from playoff contention. Boston just completed a weekend sweep of the Baltimore Orioles to extend its win streak to five games and it looks well on its way to locking down a wild card spot.

The Red Sox are 47-29 at home this season and have scored a league-best 5.83 runs per game at home. They also rank top five in both OPS and wRC+ against right-handed pitching.

The RED SOX (-145) should win their sixth in a row Tuesday.

FANTASY BASEBALL: Serious about winning your league? Sign up for BaseballHQ.com to dominate the competition. Subscribe now!

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

Stroman has been pitching well all season, and despite the tough matchup, he should be able to keep his team close. There’s not enough value on either side of this line so PASS on the run line.

Over/Under (O/U)

Rodriguez has pitched better than his ERA would suggest, as all of the ERA estimators show he’s deserving of a sub-4.00 ERA. He has been victimized by a .358 BABIP and 67.1% LOB% that have inflated his numbers.

On the other side, Stroman has allowed more than 3 ER just three times all year, and never more than 5 ER in an outing. The Boston offense had a big weekend against Baltimore, but they’re not likely to have a huge day in this one.

A small play on UNDER 9.5 (-120) is the call.
