Season series: Cavaliers lead 1-0, posting a 108-101 win in Memphis on Feb. 1, although the Grizzlies covered as 8.5-point underdogs and the Under (215.5) cashed

The Grizzlies played at home against the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, falling 102-87 as 6-point underdogs as the Under (218) cashed. Memphis has dropped the past 2 games, while averaging just 91.5 points per game (PPG) on offense. The Under has hit in 4 straight, and 5 of the past 6 outings.

The Cavaliers dropped the final 3 games of the Western Conference road trip, falling to the LA Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns. Grizzlies at Cavaliers picks and predictions

Prediction

Cavaliers 114, Grizzlies 99

Moneyline

The Cavaliers (-2500) will cost you 25 times your potential return, or just a $4 profit for every $100 risked. There is never a reason to bet such a heavy favorite, especially when that team enters with 3 straight losses, and a 3-8 SU record in the past 11 games.

However, the banged up and tanking Grizzlies (+1150) also cannot be trusted to spring the upset.

PASS.

Against the spread

The GRIZZLIES +18.5 (-110) are worth a look catching more than 9 buckets.

Memphis has failed to cover the past 2 outings, but is 3-2 ATS in the past 5 games. In addition, it is a respectable 9-5 ATS in the past 14 tries as an underdog of 9 or more points dating back to Feb. 6.

Over/Under

OVER 210.5 (-115) is worth a look, but be careful not to get carried away.

Cleveland enters on a 7-2 Over run in the past 9 outings, while cashing in 6 straight games on its home floor.

However, there is risk, as Memphis has hit the Under in 4 straight games. The Under is also 8-1-1 in the past 10 for the Grizzlies when playing on no rest.

Memphis Grizzlies at Cleveland Cavaliers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Memphis Grizzlies at Cleveland Cavaliers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Memphis Grizzlies (32-19) and Cleveland Cavaliers (31-22) meet Thursday at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Grizzlies vs. Cavaliers odds, and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

The Grizzlies failed to cover the spread as 5.5-point home favorites Wednesday in a 122-112 loss vs. the Portland Trail Blazers. G Ja Morant finished with 32 points and 12 assists for the Grizzlies, who have lost 6 of their last 7 games. Memphis is 9-22 against the spread (ATS) vs. Cleveland in the last 31 meetings.

The Cavaliers failed to cover as 4-point home favorites Tuesday in a 100-97 loss vs. the Miami Heat. G Donovan Mitchell and G Darius Garland combined to go 4-of-19 on 3-pointers as Cleveland fell to 21-6 at home. The Cavaliers are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games after a loss.

This is their 2nd meeting this season. In the 1st meeting on Jan. 18, Cleveland covered as a 7.5-point underdog in a 115-114 loss at Memphis.

Grizzlies at Cavaliers picks and predictions

Prediction

Cavaliers 106, Grizzlies 105

Moneyline

PASS.

The Cavaliers (-230) are a little overpriced on the moneyline, even if Morant sits on the 2nd night of a back-to-back. Bet the spread or total instead.

Against the spread

BET GRIZZLIES +5.5 (-101).

Even if Morant isn’t available, Memphis will still be extra focused to bounce back on national television after blowing a 2nd-half double-digit lead vs. Portland on Wednesday. Playing 2 days in a row should be fine for the Grizzlies as Memphis is 4-3 ATS this season on the 2nd night of a back-to-back and excels against Eastern Conference teams, owning a league-best 14-5-1 ATS record in non-conference games. Take the points.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 223.5 (-106).

The Under is 7-0 in Memphis’ last 7 games and 5-1 in Cleveland’s last 6. These teams tend to play low-scoring games vs. each other, with the Under hitting in 5 of the last 7 meetings, and Thursday’s matchup should be another slower-paced contest as both teams tighten up defensively to avoid losing back-to-back games.

Grizzlies at Cavaliers: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Cavaliers 98, Grizzlies 91

Money line (ML)

The CAVALIERS (-125) are worth a look on the money line, as they return home after a grueling six-game road trip, which started on New Year’s Eve in Indianapolis. The Cavaliers went just 2-4 SU during the road trip, but one of the victories was a 94-90 win in Memphis on Jan. 7. The Cavs are a little banged up, but their point guard Sexton should be back in the mix for this one, and that’s great news.

Against the spread (ATS)

The CAVALIERS -1.5 (-115) are slightly cheaper if you lay the small spread and think they can win by a bucket. The difference between the money line and spread is rather negligible, and in this particular instance it’s best to just go ML. The Cavaliers are just 2-5 ATS across their past seven games overall after a hot 3-0 SU/ATS start. The good news is that they beat Memphis already in the past week, and the Grizzlies are rather banged up, too.

Over/Under (O/U)

Hit the UNDER 217.5 (-110), and hit it hard. The Cavaliers enter on an 8-0 Under run, and they have failed to score in triple digits in each of their past seven games. In fact, they’re averaging just 91.7 PPG during the past seven, which is unheard of in this day and age of video game-like offense and cursory defense. Cleveland is very deliberate at the offense end, and they have defensive stalwart and glass cleaner Andre Drummond clogging things up and giving opposing offenses fits. These teams combined for just 184 total points against a 208.5 number on Thursday. Why the books are expecting 33 more points in the second installment is a mystery. Take advantage.
