J.J. Watt says brother T.J. has Grade 2 MCL sprain

Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt suffered a knee injury in Saturday’s win over the Ravens.

Big Brother JJ Watt offered up some potentially good news about Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt and his MCL sprain. Reports have been flying about the severity of his injury with Watt now saying the best-case scenario is a Grade 2 MCL sprain and he should only need a couple of weeks of recovery.

This is in stark contrast to the report NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport put out early on Sunday that Watt had suffered an MCL tear. At this point we will probably have to wait until head coach Mike Tomlin addresses the media to get a clear diagnosis and a timetable for Watt’s return, should the Steelers make the playoffs.

Pittsburgh beat Baltimore on Saturday to improve to 10-7 on the season and keep the door slightly ajar for a shot at the playoffs. The Steelers defense would be much more effective if Watt could be on the field, should the playoffs become a reality.

Packers RB Aaron Jones has MCL sprain, unlikely to play vs. Lions

Packers RB Aaron Jones has a knee sprain and is expected to miss Thursday’s showdown with the Lions.

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones sprained his MCL during Sunday’s win over the Los Angeles Chargers and is unlikely to play on Thursday against the Detroit Lions, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Jones got twisted down awkwardly in the second quarter. In visible pain, he was carted from the sideline to the locker room following the injury.

Despite initial fears that Jones suffered a season-ending knee injury, tests performed suggested his ACL was intact, and imaging done Monday confirmed the suspicion.

Coach Matt LaFleur said Jones isn’t expected to play against the Lions but going to injured reserve — and missing four games — isn’t believed to be necessary.

Without Jones available on Thursday, the Packers signed Patrick Taylor off the Patriots practice squad and brought back James Robinson on the practice squad to provide depth. Taylor and Robinson could be the primary backups behind A.J. Dillon vs. the Lions.

Per Schefter, Jones will be considered “week to week,” so a return for next week’s visit from the Kansas City Chiefs isn’t out of the question. The Packers play Thursday but will get 10 days before hosting the Chiefs.

This is the fourth different season in which Jones has sprained his MCL. He previously suffered the injury in 2017, 2018 and 2021.

Jones missed three games and parts of two others with a hamstring injury earlier this season. He has 245 rushing yards and two touchdowns and 19 catches for 169 yards and a touchdown in 2023.

Report: Cowboys safety Jayron Kearse expected to miss 2-4 weeks

The Cowboys’ leading tackler in 2021 will miss time with a sprained MCL. He was seen on crutches after Sunday’s 19-3 loss. | From @ToddBrock24f7

The quarterback of the Cowboys defense is also down.

Starting safety Jayron Kearse wore the green dot on his helmet Sunday night, the indicator that he served as defensive signal-caller during the Dallas season opener versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And just like his offensive counterpart Dak Prescott, Kearse left the Week 1 game early and did not return.

News out of The Star in Frisco on Monday is that the Cowboys’ leading tackler in 2021, who signed a two-year contract extension in March, will now miss multiple weeks with an MCL sprain of the left leg suffered during the third quarter of the team’s 19-3 loss.

Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News is reporting that the 28-year-old is expected to be out two to four weeks.

Kearse had been questionable leading up to kickoff, having dealt with a neck injury for most of the week. After starting the game and being involved in seven tackles, he needed assistance to reach the sideline and reported to the medical tent. The seventh-year veteran was later seen leaving AT&T Stadium on crutches.

“Certainly, [we] want Kearse back sooner than later,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones told 105.3 The Fan on Monday. “He’s our No. 1 guy there, but [we] feel good about what we have behind him.”

Second-year man Israel Mukuamu and undrafted rookie Markquese Bell did not dress Sunday. Both had impressive camps, though, and could be tapped to help pick up the slack with Kearse out. Donovan Wilson also played well, intercepting a Tom Brady pass in the fourth quarter.

Joe Looney out, rookie Biadasz to start at center for Cowboys

It’s ‘next man up’ in Dallas, where rookie Tyler Biadasz will start at center in place of Joe Looney, now out 2-3 weeks with an MCL sprain.

The dramatic shuffling along the Cowboys’ offensive line continues.

After going down on the very first snap of Week 4’s game versus Cleveland, center Joe Looney has been lost to an MCL sprain, the team announced on Tuesday. The timetable for his return is expected to be 2-3 weeks, though the team has not officially placed him on injured reserve.

Rookie Tyler Biadasz stepped in for the remainder of Sunday’s game in Looney’s stead and will get the start in his absence. The fourth-round draft pick out of Wisconsin has played well thus far this season, also seeing considerable game action in the Week 3 loss to Seattle.

It’s widely thought the promising rookie won’t be giving the starting job back to Looney even after his knee injury heals.

Looney does have experience at other positions along the offensive line, a trait that will likely come in handy as Dallas has seen a number of its front blockers missing time over the young season.

La’el Collins, on injured reserve to start the season, will indeed have surgery for a hip issue and miss the entire 2020 season. That news first broke over the weekend, and was finally all but confirmed by team owner Jerry Jones on 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday.

Brandon Knight and Terence Steele have platooned in Collins’s right tackle slot, with each seeing substantial time in the lineup.

Left tackle Tyron Smith, who missed the team’s Week 2 and 3 contests as he dealt with neck stingers, returned to action versus Cleveland and played all 82 offensive snaps.
