Former Vol Max Ferguson traded to the Red Sox.

Former Tennessee player Max Ferguson was traded to Boston Aug. 2.

San Diego traded Ferguson, first baseman Eric Hosmer, outfielder Corey Rosier and cash to the Red Sox for pitcher Jay Groome.

Ferguson has been assigned to the Greenville Drive. Greenville is a High-A affiliate of the Red Sox located in Greenville, South Carolina.

Ferguson has appeared in six games for Greenville since being traded. He is 6-for-22, totaling two RBIs, five runs, seven total bases, four walks and two stolen bases.

Ferguson was selected by San Diego in the 2021 MLB draft. He was drafted in the fifth round with the 160th overall selection.

Former Vol Max Ferguson assigned to Fort Wayne and records two hits in his first game.

Former Tennessee player Max Ferguson debuted for the Fort Wayne TinCaps Tuesday.

The TinCaps compete in the Midwest League and are a High-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres.

Ferguson went 2-for-5, recording one walk and one run in his first game with the TinCaps. Fort Wayne defeated the West Michigan Whitecaps, 8-3.

Ferguson was assigned to Fort Wayne from the Lake Elsinore Storm, the Padres’ Single-A affiliate, of the California League.

The former Vol appeared in 64 games in 2022 for Lake Elsinore. He recorded a .247 batting average, totaling 59 hits, nine doubles, five triples, three home runs, 39 RBIs, 63 runs, 61 walks and 51 stolen bases.

Ferguson was selected by San Diego in the 2021 MLB draft. He was drafted in the fifth round with the 160th overall selection.

Ferguson was selected by San Diego in the 2021 MLB draft. He was drafted in the fifth round with the 160th overall selection.

He recorded a career batting average of .258 at Tennessee and hit 14 home runs. Ferguson totaled 28 stolen bases with the Vols from 2019-21.

Ferguson, an infielder for the Volunteers, was taken by the Padres in the fifth round of the 2021 Major League Baseball first-year player draft on Monday.

He was selected with the 160th overall draft pick.

Ferguson, the Vols’ starting second baseman in 2021, batted .253 for Tennessee, which won 50 games and made its first appearance in the College World Series since 2005. He hit 12 home runs and stole 15 bases last season.

Ferguson recorded a career batting average of .258 on Rocky Top and hit 14 career home runs.

Although primarily playing second base for the Vols, he can play multiple positions in the infield and the outfield.

The Big Orange would take a 2-1 lead in the sixth as Jordan Beck, who would eventually score the winning run, clubbed a solo homer.

The Golden Eagles made it 2-2 in the top of the eighth inning as Cody Lillejohn came up with an RBI single.

On the mound, Sean Hunley (4-2) picked up the victory as he threw two innings of scoreless relief. He gave up one run and had one strikeout.

Max Ferguson named second-team All-SEC

Tennessee second baseman Max Ferguson named second-team All-SEC.

Tennessee baseball player Max Ferguson has received second-team All-Southeastern Conference preseason honors.

The conference’s coaches selected Ferguson, a second baseman, for second-team honors.

The honor is the second of many bestowed on Ferguson this preseason.

He is a preseason first-team All-America selection by both D1Baseball.com and Baseball America. He garnered second-team honors from Rawlings/Perfect Game.

Last season, Ferguson was second in the SEC in stolen bases with nine. He batted .333 in 13 games of the abbreviated 2020 season, which was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Volunteers were 15-2 when play was suspended prior to the beginning of the conference season.

The junior and Florida native scored 12 runs and clubbed two homers last season.

University of Tennessee baseball player Max Ferguson was named as a preseason All-America standout.

Ferguson, a sophomore infielder for the Volunteers, was selected as a member of the Perfect Game/Rawlings All-America second-team.

In the abbreviated 2020 campaign, Ferguson led the Southeastern Conference with nine stolen bases. He also batted .333 and clubbed two home runs in 13 games, which was shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He scored 12 runs for the Diamond Vols last year.

In his previous two seasons in Knoxville, Ferguson recorded 32 hits, scored 23 runs, totaled 15 runs batted in and swiped 13 bases despite being plagued by injuries during his freshman season at Tennessee. He has also drawn 17 walks in his career with the Volunteers.

He was one of 14 SEC players named All-America by Perfect Game/Rawlings and is considered a top prospect for the 2021 Major League Baseball draft.
