Former Vol Maui Ahuna placed on injured list by the Giants.

Former Tennessee shortstop Maui Ahuna was placed on a seven-day injured list by the ACL Giants Orange on Aug. 11.

He was assigned to ACL Giants Orange on July 30.

ACL Giants Orange compete in the Arizona Complex League and is a rookie-level Minor League Baseball league.

Ahuna was selected by San Francisco in the fourth-round of the 2023 Major League Baseball draft (No. 117 overall).

Ahuna played at Tennessee in 2023 after transferring from Kansas. He appeared in 53 games, including 52 starts, with the Vols.

The former Vol recorded a .312 batting average, eight home runs, 42 RBIs, 43 runs, 37 walks and four stolen bases at Tennessee in 2023.

Ahuna appeared in 103 games at Kansas from 2021-22, recording a .357 batting average, nine home runs, 73 RBIs, 75 runs, 138 hits, 206 total bases, 56 walks and 21 stolen bases.

The 2023 Major League Baseball first-year player draft will take place July 9-11 in Seattle, Washington.

The MLB first-year player draft will be held in conjunction with the 2023 MLB All-Star Game on July 11.

Maui Ahuna available to join Vols’ active roster immediately

Shortstop Maui Ahuna is available to join the Vols’ active roster immediately.

Junior shortstop Maui Ahuna is eligible to join the Vols’ active roster immediately, the University of Tennessee announced Monday.

“Maui Ahuna’s eligibility has been reinstated and he is available to join Tennessee’s active roster effective immediately,” Tennessee announced.

Ahuna transferred to Tennessee from Kansas following the 2022 season.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pound Ahuna played at Kansas from 2021-22. He appeared in 103 games for the Jayhawks, recording a .357 batting average, nine home runs, 73 RBIs, 75 runs, 138 hits, 206 total bases, 56 walks and 21 stolen bases.

Ahuna is from Hilo High School in Hilo, Hawaii.

Seven pipeline top 100 draft prospects to compete in 2023 MLB Desert Invitational

Seven MLB pipeline top 100 draft prospects will compete in the 2023 MLB Desert Invitational, including two Vols.

Friday is opening day for Tennessee baseball.

The Vols will play in the 2023 MLB Desert Invitational in Arizona Feb. 17-19. The MLB Desert Invitational field will consist of Tennessee, Arizona, Fresno State, Grand CanyonMichigan State and San Diego.

Tennessee will play Arizona on Friday at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale, Arizona. First pitch between the Vols and Wildcats is slated for 8 p.m. EST. MLB Network will televise the season-opening game.

Tennessee will play Grand Canyon on Saturday at Brazell Field at GCU Park in Phoenix, Arizona. First pitch is slated for 8 p.m. EST (MLB Network).

The Vols’ final game in the MLB Desert Invitational is slated for Sunday versus UC San Diego. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. EST at Sloan Park in Mesa, Arizona (MLB.com).

Four Vols named to Golden Spikes Award preseason watch list

Four Vols named to the Golden Spikes Award preseason watch list.

USA Baseball released a 2023 Golden Spikes Award preseason watch list.

Chase Dollander, Chase Burns, Drew Beam and Maui Ahuna were recognized on the 55-man preseason watch list. The four selections sets a new program-record for Tennessee.

The Golden Spikes Award is presented annually to the nation’s top amateur baseball player. The Vols and LSU tied for the most selections with four each.

Dollander, Burns and Beam combined for 43 starts last season, posting a 26-3 record and 273 strikeouts.

Dollander was the 2022 SEC Pitcher of the Year and earned preseason first-team All-America honors. Beam was named the SEC Freshman of the Year last season.

Ahuna transferred to Tennessee after playing two seasons at Kansas. He was a first-team All-Big 12 selection last season and earned preseason second-team All-America honors from NCBWA.

The Vols open its 2023 season Feb. 17 against Arizona at 8 p.m. EST on MLB Network.
