Look: This clip shows Matthew Stafford’s best throw of overtime wasn’t even the game-winner

Matthew Stafford’s 24-yard dime to Tyler Johnson in overtime was ridiculously good – and even better from the end zone angle

Matthew Stafford seems to play better when the game is on the line. It’s why he has 46 career game-winning drives, the most of any active player and tied for sixth all-time.

Stafford stepped up once again in overtime of Sunday’s game against the Seahawks when he drove the Rams down the field and hit Demarcus Robinson for a 39-yard game-winning touchdown.

However, that throw to Robinson – as impressive as it was – may not have been his best throw of overtime. Three plays prior, he threw a dime to Tyler Johnson on a crossing route that picked up 24 yards.

The broadcast angle of that throw doesn’t even do it justice. You have to see the end zone angle to truly appreciate how ridiculous it was.

While under pressure, Stafford threw a sidearm bullet to Johnson, who crossed just in front of Seahawks corner Riq Woolen for the completion. It was undoubtedly a dangerous throw, but one Stafford is capable of making – something not many other quarterbacks can say.

The anticipation, the accuracy, the confidence under pressure. It’s all so impressive.

Yeah, the game-winner was terrific, but it doesn’t happen without this insanely good throw from Stafford just before it.

LeBron James gave Matthew Stafford and the Rams a shoutout after their big win vs. Seahawks

LeBron James was watching the Rams’ wild win over the Seahawks and gave Matthew Stafford a shoutout afterwards

LeBron James has become a big Rams supporter since coming to the Lakers, often attending games at SoFi Stadium. He was watching when the Rams beat the Vikings in prime time last week and he was doing the same on Sunday afternoon when they took down the Seahawks in overtime.

After seeing Matthew Stafford throw the game-winning touchdown pass to Demarcus Robinson in OT, James gave the star quarterback a shoutout on social media. He called Stafford “a beast” and was impressed by the Rams’ road win in Seattle.

Here’s his message on X, formerly Twitter.

Rams stuff Seahawks on defense, win on Matthew Stafford TD pass in overtime

The Rams downed the Seahawks in overtime on a Matthew Stafford TD pass

The Los Angeles Rams stopped the Seattle Seahawks on two short-yardage plays in overtime on Sunday. They then took the football and won the game on a Matthew Stafford pass to DeMarcus Robinson.

LA’s 26-20 win raised the Rams’ record to 4-4. Seattle fell to 4-5 and last in the parity-laden NFC West.

It was a bizarre game for the Seahawks. The only times they scored were in the final minute of the second quarter and the final minute of the fourth quarter.

Seattle scored two touchdowns in 46 seconds before halftime. The Rams then countered with17 straight points to take a 20-13 lead.

Geno Smith, who threw three TD passes and three interceptions, found Jaxon Smith-Njigba with a 14-yard pass with 51 seconds left in the fourth quarter to force overtime.

Seattle got the ball and was driving until LA’s defense stopped it cold on third and four down in Rams territory.

The Rams took over and Stafford drove them 83 yards in four plays with the final 39 coming on the pass to Robinson.

Sean McVay was one pumped-up coach.

Seahawks lose 26-20 to Rams in overtime, fall to last place in NFC West

Seahawks lose 26-20 to Rams in overtime, fall to last place in NFC West

The Seattle Seahawks are now in sole possession of last place in the NFC West. After losing 26-20 in overtime to the Los Angeles Rams, and with the Arizona Cardinals defeating the Chicago Bears 29-9, the one-time division leaders are now in the basement of said division.

Seattle has now lost their fourth-straight home game, matching their longest losing streak at Lumen Field since the end of the 2020 season through 2021. What game started that particular losing streak? A home playoff loss to – you guessed it – the Los Angeles Rams.

Last season, the Seahawks lead the Rams 13-7 at halftime after a late Geno Smith touchdown pass, and were eventually shutout in a disappointing 30-13 home defeat. In a sick way, history almost repeated itself without edit.

On Sunday, the Seahawks took a 13-3 lead in the final moments of the half after a Geno Smith touchdown pass. From there, the wheels started to fall off for Seattle. The Rams scored 10 points of their own in the third to tie the game 13-13 headed into the fourth. Unfortunately, this is when the Seahawks started to implode.

Well, that’s not entirely accurate. I should say this is when quarterback Geno Smith started to implode. It was one of the worst second half performances the 12th Man has seen from a quarterback in some time. Smith got the offense down to LA’s goal line when he threw a wobbling pass into traffic in the end zone. It was picked off by Kamren Kinchens, who then returned the ball 103-yards for the go ahead touchdown.

After the pick-six, the Seahawks and Rams traded punts. At least, that’s what Los Angeles attempted to do, but their punt attempt was blocked by wide receiver Cody White, who was elevated off the practice squad this weekend. White’s block set Seattle up at the Rams’ 19-yard line.

Unfortunately, the golden opportunity was (quite literally) thrown away by Smith, who threw his third interception of the game five plays later.

However, against improbable odds, the Seahawks were given one final opportunity in regulation to tie the game, and they did make the most of it. Smith engineered an eight-play, 73 yard drive to tie the game with this beautiful throw to JSN. Seattle had life!

In overtime, the Seahawks won the coin toss and got the ball first. Seattle made it all the way to LA’s 16-yard line. On fourth and one, the Seahawks elected to go for it instead of kicking a field goal to take a lead. They were stuffed on the ensuing run. The game then shifted into sudden death overtime.

The Rams went 83 yards in only four plays, and ended the game with a 39-yard touchdown strike from Matthew Stafford to send the Seahawks into last place.

Seattle heads into their bye week seeking answers. Their 3-0 start has devolved into a 1-5 stretch and are looking up at every other team in their division… a division where they are now 0-2 in games against rivals. The Seahawks will be back in Week 11 to play the San Francisco 49ers on the road.

Here is the Rams’ nominee for the 2024 Salute to Service Award

The Rams have nominated Matthew Stafford for the 2024 Salute to Service Award for the support he shows the military community

Every team nominates one player, coach or staff member each year for the Salute to Service Award, which is given to the person who best demonstrates support for the military community.

Last year, the Rams nominated Cooper Kupp for the award and this season, they selected Matthew Stafford as their nominee. Stafford is one of 32 nominees, with the winner being recognized at the NFL Honors show in February.

The winner will receive a $25,000 donation in their honor from USAA to “official aid societies representing all U.S. military branches,” as well as a $25,000 donation from the NFL to the winner’s choice of charity.

The Rams’ Salute to Service game will be on Nov. 11 and for that contest against the Dolphins, Stafford will host a group of young individuals who are enlisting in the military, as well as a group of Navy SEALs.

Here is more on Stafford’s support of the military from the official news release:

Since joining the Rams, Matthew has supported American Red Cross’ Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign and was featured on a holiday card that read, “From the players on the football field to the heroes protecting our country and freedoms. Thank you for your service.” The Rams, including Matthew’s wife, Kelly, visited local schools to engage kids in writing holiday messages of thanks for those serving our country. The cards were then collected and mailed to military members serving domestically and overseas as well as veterans living the United States.

Fans can vote for a winner from now until Nov. 30 at NFL.com/SaluteFanVote.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes comments on reaching 30,000 career passing yards: ‘It takes everybody’

Kansas City #Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes comments on reaching 30,000 career passing yards: ‘It takes everybody’ | @EdEastonJr

The Kansas City Chiefs’ 27-20 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8 was more than an AFC West rivalry win, as their superstar quarterback made NFL history on the day.

Patrick Mahomes’ 16-yard completion to newly acquired Chiefs wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins in the closing minute of the second quarter clinched the honor of becoming the fastest player to throw for 30,000 career passing yards. The reigning Super Bowl MVP shared his thoughts on the latest milestone he’s reached already this season.

“I didn’t even know about that until after the game and them telling me. Obviously, (it’s) an amazing accomplishment. It speaks to the organization I’m in.” said Mahomes. “It speaks to the people I have around me, the coaches I have around me and the players. It takes everybody. I think just being able to execute and get to that milestone is awesome, but we have a lot more to do, and we’ve had a great start to the season and want to keep building on that.”

Mahomes overtook Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford’s previous record of 109 games after completing this milestone in only 103 games. He finished his record-setting day throwing for 262 yards on 27 completions with two touchdowns and tallying 17 yards on six rushing attempts.

Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes becomes fastest player to reach 30,000 yards

#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes set an NFL record during Kansas City’s Week 8 matchup against the Las Vegas #Raiders.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is no stranger to setting records, and he has set another against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8.

Heading into Sunday’s game, Mahomes had a chance to become the quickest quarterback to reach 30,000 career passing yards, by surpassing Las Angeles Rams’ quarterback Matthew Stafford’s record of 109 games.

With just under a minute remaining in the first half of Sunday’s game, the reigning Super Bowl MVP found wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins for a 16-yard pass and officially crossed the 30,000-yard mark in just 103 games.

The Chiefs were quick to acknowledge the career milestone in a post to their official Twitter account:

Though Mahomes has plenty of reason to celebrate after this impressive achievement, the reigning Super Bowl MVP will need to continue dominating the Raiders in the second half of Sunday’s game to help Kansas City keep its undefeated record intact.

Stay tuned to see if Mahomes can close out Las Vegas.

How Puka Nacua went from barely practicing to dominating in his first game back

Puka Nacua only caught one or two passes from Matthew Stafford in practice before going off for 106 yards in his return

Everyone expected Cooper Kupp to play against the Minnesota Vikings, making his awaited return to the field after missing four games. However, few believed Puka Nacua would be ready to go as early as this week.

Not even Sean McVay knew Nacua had a chance to play until Monday afternoon.

After all, he said just last week that Nacua was “still a little bit of ways away,” indicating that he had a chance to return in Week 9 against the Seattle Seahawks, not on Thursday night against the Vikings.

It wasn’t until this Monday that head trainer Reggie Scott told McVay that Nacua might have a shot at playing this week, much to the surprise of the Rams coach.

“I kind of remove myself because I want to try to be focused and in the moment,” McVay said after the game. “You’re obviously checking up on guys. Reggie Scott comes to my office on Monday or whenever, it was after I had spoken with you guys and he says – Reggie doesn’t throw it out there unless he knows it’s probably a good chance – He had said, ‘I think Puka might have a chance to go.’ I had said, ‘Alright, we’ll shoot for getting (him) back… maybe for Seattle.’ He said, ‘I don’t know, I’m feeling pretty good.’”

After McVay heard that, Nacua worked out on the field and “did a great job,” giving the coach hope that his star receiver might be able to go. After talking to Nacua, McVay got the sense that he was ready to give it a shot, and from there, it was determined that he would play against the Vikings.

“He went and had a workout session where he ran routes and did a great job. His movement looked good. I talked to him and I said, ‘Do you want to try to give this thing a shot?’ And he said, ‘Yes.’ He took part in the walkthrough on Tuesday, did a little bit more movement on his own and then yesterday in practice, he looked really good and once you tease me, you’re going. So, that was kind of really how that ended up coming about. But he had shown that he was ready for that performance and this guy’s mindset, his mentality, he’s a war daddy, he’s a stud. I love his play energy and what he brings. He was ready to go tonight and he made a big impact on the game.”

Matthew Stafford was thrilled to get Nacua back in the mix alongside Kupp and the Rams’ other receivers, too. It had been six games since Nacua was on the field and it’s not as if he was practicing while on injured reserve.

So this week was their only work together since Week 1, but with it being a short week, they didn’t exactly throw much. Stafford told reporters after Thursday’s game that he threw maybe one or two passes to Nacua all week.

” I haven’t had a ton of reps with those guys in the last month or so, especially Puka,” he said of Nacua and Kupp. “I might have thrown him one or two balls in practice this week and that’s the first time since the first game, but he did a hell of a job tonight. He always does. Those guys come out and compete. That’s what I’m proud of man. Just coming out, showing up for our football team, competing, that’s big time.”

Nacua finished the night with seven catches for 106 yards, six of which went for first downs and picked up at least 13 yards. He looked every bit like the star rookie we saw in 2023 despite not being up to full speed and with very limited practice reps heading into the game.

Now he and the rest of the Rams’ roster have a few extra days to recover before getting in a full week of practice next week.

Watch: Matthew Stafford gave his game ball back to Sean McVay for an awesome reason

Sean McVay gave Matthew Stafford a game ball for passing Dan Marino in the record books, but the QB gave it back to his coach for a cool reason

The relationship between Matthew Stafford and Sean McVay is unlike most other quarterback-coach partnerships. It’s something special, partly because they’re so close in age with only 2 years separating them.

It’s awesome to see a quarterback and coach work so well together, which is what made the Rams’ locker room video after their win over the Vikings quite special. After hyping up his team and crediting the job done by the offensive line, punter Ethan Evans and the defense as a whole, McVay handed out only one game ball.

He gave it to Stafford, who passed Dan Marino for ninth all-time in career completions. Passing Marino in any category is a huge accomplishment, so McVay wanted to recognize his quarterback.

Only, Stafford wanted to show his coach love, too. Stafford brought McVay back and gave him his game ball, applauding him for his 80th career win – most all-time by a Rams head coach.

“I might’ve passed Marino but 80 (expletive) wins, most all-time by a Rams coach,” Stafford said, handing him the game ball.

“Hey, on my son’s first birthday!” McVay yelled, eliciting a huge cheer from the locker room.

McVay and Stafford. As good as it gets.

LeBron James gave 3 Rams stars a shoutout during their win over the Vikings

LeBron James tuned in for the Rams’ win over the Vikings on Thursday night and gave 3 stars a shoutout on social media

When playing in prime time, the lights shine a little bit brighter and the audience is a little bit bigger. The Los Angeles Rams had everyone watching their upset win over the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night, including none other than LeBron James – someone who’s been a big supporter of the Rams over the years now that he’s in L.A.

During the Rams’ win against the Vikings, James posted a couple of times on social media and gave a trio of players a shoutout on X (formerly Twitter). He was happy to see Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp back on the field, first and foremost, which completely changed the Rams offense for the better.

After Matthew Stafford’s touchdown pass to Demarcus Robinson deep down the right sideline, LeBron recognized the greatness of the Rams quarterback by calling him “so damn good.”

Can confirm, Mr. James. Stafford is quite good.

Nacua is a noted LeBron supporter so he’ll appreciate the shoutout from the king himself.
