Report: Matthew Judon could miss the rest of season with biceps injury

Patriots Pro Bowl LB Matt Judon is out for at least two months with a biceps injury

As feared, it was a worst case scenario situation for New England Patriots star linebacker Matthew Judon, following the biceps injury he suffered in the team’s Week 4 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Per the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the four-time Pro Bowler will undergo surgery on Wednesday, and then there will be a better idea of whether or not he can return this season. However, he is expected to be sidelined for two months at minimum.

It’s a tough break for a Patriots team that also lost rookie cornerback Christian Gonzalez, who just earned a nod for Rookie Defensive Player of the Month.

Judon’s absence shines an even bigger spotlight on Josh Uche, who is playing in a contract year. This will be his opportunity to shine as the premier pass-rusher on the roster, which is a title Judon bestowed upon him last season.

Now, it’s falls on Uche to go out and prove it to the rest of the world.

3 big takeaways from Patriots’ 38-3 demolition in Dallas

Here are 3 big takeaways from the Patriots’ 38-3 loss to the Cowboys

Everything that could go wrong did go wrong.

A week after a hard-fought victory – their first of the season – against the New York Jets, the New England Patriots took on the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, Texas on Sunday.

All who were looking for a close match with two high-powered offenses going toe-to-toe were sorely disappointed, as the Patriots’ offense seemed to regress back to 1992 – the year before the team drafted future franchise quarterback Drew Bledsoe No. 1 overall.

And, overall, nothing about the 38-3 loss gave any positive emotions to any of New England’s fans out there.

Here are three big takeaways from the matchup.

Patriots LB Matthew Judon gives strong one-liner ahead of Jets game

Matthew Judon kept it short and sweet.

New England Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon was very succinct in his goal for his team against the New York Jets on Sunday.

“It’s our time to win,” Judon said, when speaking to media members, ahead of the Week 3 meeting with the Jets.

Judon has had a solid start to the season, recording seven tackles and two sacks over two games. He had success against the New York Jets when the two teams met last November, racking up five tackles and 1.5 sacks in what was a defensive battle.

He will undoubtedly be tested against a strong Jets offense that has playmaking weapons, even with the season-ending injury to quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Sunday has the feel of a must-win game for New England, as they look to keep pace in an AFC East division featuring two potential contenders in the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills.

4 Big takeaways from Patriots’ 25-20 loss vs Eagles

A comeback wasn’t enough to overcome the Eagles, but the Patriots still played good football on Sunday. Here are 4 takeaways from the game.

A celebratory day at Gillette Stadium provided New England Patriots fans with fireworks on and off the field in their Week 1 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Legendary quarterback Tom Brady was honored both pregame and at halftime, with New England owner Robert Kraft making the announcement that the team would void the normal waiting period and would induct the signal-caller into the Patriots Hall of Fame this upcoming June.

On the field, New England’s offense overcame an early 16-0 self-inflicted deficit to make the game competitive, drawing within two and five points of the Eagles at different points throughout the match.

Ultimately, the self-inflicted mistakes were just too much to overcome, and multiple late drives by the Patriots deep into Philadelphia territory just couldn’t give the home team a lead.

Here are 4 big takeaways from the 25-20 loss.

Matt Judon reacts to Patriots rookie punter getting his jersey number

There’s a new No. 9 in New England, and Matt Judon’s reaction is priceless.

New England Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon is no longer the only player in the building with a No. 9 jersey.

The star pass-rusher now shares the number with rookie punter Bryce Baringer. On Thursday, the Patriots revealed all of their rookie jersey numbers, and Baringer became the second punter in two years to be given the No. 9 jersey in the preseason.

Last year, it was undrafted rookie punter Jake Julien that shared the same number as Judon. Julien didn’t stick on the roster and eventually landed in the Canadian Football League with the Edmonton Elks.

After seeing the number reveal, Judon hopped on social media and reacted, along with wide receiver DeVante Parker.

The twinning with No. 9 will be short-lived when the actual season begins, and the numbers are no longer allowed to be the same.

Baringer is locked into a positional battle with veteran punter Corliss Waitman. It’s hard seeing the rookie fail to make the roster considering the Patriots gave up a sixth-round draft pick for him. And from the looks of his early work in training camp, he is inching his way towards being a roster lock.

6 leftover notes from Day 6 of Patriots training camp practice

Leftover notes from Day 6 of Patriots training camp

The New England Patriots were back on the training camp field on Tuesday after holding their first padded practice. So there was naturally a sense of excitement to see how things would progress on Day 6.

Cole Strange, who suffered a leg injury on Monday, was seen on the field, but he didn’t participate in team drills. While his injury isn’t believed to be serious, the Patriots are clearly being cautious with whatever he’s dealing with in that regard.

The team was also without Michael Onwenu, Calvin Anderson, Cody Davis, Brad Hawkins, Ty Montgomery, Jalen Hurd (retirement), Terez Hall and Chasen Hines. Meanwhile, offensive tackle Trent Brown was once again working off to the side on conditioning drills.

Here are six leftover notes from Day 6 of Patriots training camp:

WATCH: Matthew Judon sings Beyoncé’s ‘Single Ladies’ at training camp

Never change, Matthew Judon. Never change.

There is never a dull day when Matthew Judon is around.

Outsiders have been questioning his contract situation with the New England Patriots for days, and yet, there he was arriving at training camp practice on Tuesday, singing and dancing to Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” in front of cameras.

The four-time Pro Bowl linebacker sparks the Patriots with his energy on and off the field. When the helmets and pads come on, he morphs into one of the most fearsome pass-rushers in the NFL.

Off the field, however, he’s a genuine soul that has a real knack for making the people around him smile.

There’s real hope that the two sides can agree on a restructured deal and an eventual extension at some point. Judon is a unicorn in playmaking ability, leadership and personality.

That isn’t someone a team should just let walk out the door.

Where things stand with Matthew Judon’s contract situation

Here’s where things reportedly stand with Matthew Judon’s contract situation

New England Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon taking lighter reps at the start of training camp was not a result of an issue with his contract, as Judon himself pointed out when poking fun with the media on Friday.

However, a contract issue does reportedly exist, and both the Patriots and Judon are quietly working behind the scenes to try to resolve it.

ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported on where things stand currently in his Sunday notes column:

Outside linebacker Matthew Judon played coy on how much his desire for a financial boost to his contract played a role in his limited participation in practice last week. The sides have had an open dialogue recently, according to sources. The one-year extension signed by Cincinnati Bengals pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson, which added $5 million to his 2023 pay, seems relevant to the ongoing conversations.

This is certainly an encouraging piece of news, given that the linebacker was an important part of the Patriots’ pass-rushing unit, recording 15.5 sacks last season. This marked the second season in a row that he recorded at least 10 sacks.

New England will need him to be the same, dominant force he has been over the past couple of seasons, especially when they have the hardest schedule in the league in 2023.

Judon will be a key cog for New England defensively. Here’s to hoping the contract situation sorts itself out sooner rather than later.

Matt Judon fends off ex-Patriot’s negative tweet on Bill Belichick

Matt Judon came to the defense of Bill Belichick from a former Patriots All-Pro defender

Outside linebacker Matt Judon reportedly wants adjustments to his current contract with the New England Patriots, but he isn’t looking to create any added drama to get what he clearly deserves.

Former Patriots All-Pro cornerback Asante Samuel, who has been outspoken about coach Bill Belichick in the past, believes Judon’s tune could change if Belichick and the Patriots fail to come through on the contract rework.

“Let’s see how much he likes Belichick now,” Samuel posted, when chiming in on the matter on social media.

It didn’t take Judon long to post a response after reading the comment.

“Will forever be my guy. Don’t let that money effect my emotions Asante,” Judon posted.

Judon is keeping tight-lipped on his contract situation with the Patriots, but he has expressed multiple times that he wanted to retire in New England. Plans are never set in stone in a landscape that’s always changing, but one has to believe a deal will get done at some point, if both sides are open and on the same page.

That has been the case since the moment Judon walked through the doors at Gillette Stadium. With the Patriots expected to be one of the teams with the most money to spend in 2024, it’s hard to envision it changing now.

Matthew Judon had funny two-word response to DeAndre Hopkins signing

Matthew Judon only had two words after learning DeAndre Hopkins signed with the Titans

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8169″]

New England Patriots linebacker Matthew Judon only had two words after learning that free agent wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins was signing with the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

“Fake news,” Judon posted on Twitter.

Judon has been throwing out recruiting pitches to high-profile players on social media all offseason. He even posed for a picture with Hopkins during a Patriots visit with the five-time All-Pro wideout. The team came away from the meeting feeling good about their chances of agreeing on a deal with Hopkins.

But then it was announced that Hopkins was returning to the AFC South to play for the Titans.

The Patriots’ failure to land an elite No. 1 receiver likely means Judon and the defense will have to continue shouldering the brunt of the load in 2023. It’s a good thing that the unit is built to contend against the most formidable offenses in the NFL.
