Tight ends coach hot board 1.0: Who replaces Andrew Aurich with Rutgers football? Seven names to watch

Seven names to consider for Rutgers football in their search for a new tight ends coach.

Rutgers football is looking to replace Andrew Aurich as tight ends coach, with some interesting possibilities out there for the job.

Aurich, reported to be the next head coach at Harvard, has been on the Rutgers staff since the return of Greg Schiano in 2020. Last year was his first season as the tight ends coach.

His ties to Schiano included time on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers staff during Schiano’s tenure in the NFL.

In replacing Aurich, Rutgers will need to bring in a young, exciting positional coach. Rutgers has several young tight ends on their roster and while the room isn’t deep or very experienced, there is a pressing need to coach the group up.

Rutgers football recruiting: Philadelphia offensive lineman Michael Carroll previews upcoming visit

Michael Carroll

Offensive lineman Michael Carroll will be visiting Rutgers football next weekend. The Philadelphia standout is starting to see things pick up with several Power Five colleges.

Carroll, who plays for La Salle College (Philadelphia, PA), is a 6-foot-5 guard who currently holds an offer from Temple. But other schools are beginning to get involved in his recruitment.

This weekend’s visit, Carroll said, is another step to continue his relationship with the program. He also will be able to see Samuel Brown, who was his teammate in high school.

Brown is a rising sophomore running back at Rutgers.

“I’m really looking forward to building a relationship with the Rutgers coaching staff, the offensive line coaches, and head coach Greg Schiano,” Carroll told Rutgers Wire.

“I am hoping to go see the wonderful facilities that Rutgers has to offer, the way they run practice, and seeing my old teammate Samuel Joseph Brown.”

Carroll has taken recent visits to James Madison, Maryland and Boston College. He is a three-star recruit according to Rivals, where he is the No. 12 prospect in Pennsylvania.

Things with Rutgers, Carroll said, are starting to pick up, leading him to be excited about his visit this upcoming weekend to Rutgers.

“Things with Rutgers have been going smooth. I have just been hearing from them recently,” Carroll said. “I have been talking to Matt Hewitt offensive quality control, assistant tight ends coach.”

Rutgers football: Matt Hewitt is switching roles on coaching staff

Matt Hewitt has a new role with Rutgers football.

Matt Hewitt appears to be switching from defense to offense on the Rutgers football staff. The move is another sign of Hewitt’s versatility as a coach.

In an update to his social media profile this week, Hewitt is now the offensive quality control/assistant tight ends coach.

Hewitt is one of the longest-tenured members of the coaching and support staff, having joined Rutgers in 2017 under then-head coach Chris Ash. Last season, he was elevated from being the assistant director of recruiting to being a defensive assistant.

From Englewood, N.J., Hewitt was a safety in college at Arkansas where he was Second-Team All-SEC by the Associated Press as a senior.

Regarded highly for his football knowledge but also for his work ethic, Heiwtt is routinely praised by recruits.

On Friday, Nas Jones joined the Rutgers coaching staff, becoming an assistant safeties coach after spending the past year in player development with the Scarlet Knights.

Class of 2026 prospect with strong Rutgers football ties gets an offer

Rutgers football offers Chris Hewitt Jr.

Chris Hewitt Jr. got an offer from Rutgers football over the weekend, putting Rutgers as the first offer for the eighth-grader. His connections to the program certainly run deep to say the least.

His father was a former assistant at Rutgers and his uncle is Matt Hewitt, who is currently the assistant safeties coach at Rutgers (and got a ton of love from Saturday’s camp, with several Holy Trinity players underscoring his coaching style).

Chris tweeted about the offer following the Rutgers football camp, where he earned the offer:

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound defensive back looks like a chip off the family block. His father, Chris Hewitt Sr., is currently the secondary coach with the Baltimore Ravens and was a former NFL defensive back with the New Orleans Saints. His uncle was a standout safety at Arkansas.
