Matias Marin was named as Tennessee’s women’s tennis assistant coach on Wednesday.
Marin played collegiately at Baylor and won the 2004 NCAA national championship.
“Danny White and our entire administration are on a mission to be the best athletic department in the country, providing us with the resources needed to hire Matias is another example of the lengths Cam Walker, JB Bowling and the rest of our admin are willing to go, to make sure we bring in the best,” Tennessee head coach Alison Ojeda said in a press release. “Matias is an incredible coach who is well-established in the world of tennis. He has won a national title, coached top-100 WTA players on tour and has developed and trained some of our nation’s best junior players.
“In addition to being an outstanding coach, what I love most about Matias is that he and his family fit our current culture. In this ever-changing world of college athletics, I know he will help me prioritize the core of our program’s values. We will make sure to always care for our student-athletes well-being, while pushing them to achieve greatness both on and off the court. When you face adversity together, you build life-long relationships and that, to me, is what winning is all about.”
