Freshman Marta Suárez discusses Lady Vols’ win against Western Kentucky

Tennessee opened the 2020-21 season.

The Lady Vols (1-0) opened the 2020-21 season with an 87-47 win over Western Kentucky at Thompson-Boling Arena Saturday.

Freshman Marta Suárez debuted for Tennessee, scoring 11 points, while recording six rebounds, four assists and one steal.

The 6-foot-2 guard and forward is from Oviedo, Spain. She started the contest against Western Kentucky.

“I mean, I’m not going lie, I loved when I heard that I was in the starting five,” Suárez said. “I love the fact that the coaches trusted me to be out there since the beginning.

“I mean, what matters is that we were able to play today. You cannot take that for granted and that we all did great. You’ve got to go out there and give your 100 percent, so I’m pretty proud of myself for the game and really proud of the team.”

Tennessee will return to action Dec. 1 against East Tennessee State at Thompson-Boling Arena. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. EST.
