Oregon’s place in the 2023 national recruiting rankings following 5-star Mookie Cook’s commitment

The Ducks have landed 2 of the 3 highest-rated recruits in program history in the past couple of weeks. Here’s where they now rank nationally.

Dana Altman did it again.

After a brutal start to the summer that saw de-commitments from both 5-star PG Dior Johnson and 5-star SF Marquis ‘Mookie’ Cook, the Oregon Ducks were able to build up the 2023 recruiting class back to full strength.

On Friday, Cook announced that he would once again be committing to the Ducks after opening up his recruitment for the month of July and exploring his options. This comes not long after fellow 5-star PF Kwame Evans committed to the Ducks and gave Oregon some star-power in the class.

The addition of Evans moved Oregon all the way up from No. 31 in the national recruiting rankings to No. 7.

So where do the Ducks rank now with Cook in the mix as well? Take a look…

BREAKING: 5-star SF Mookie Cook announces commitment to Oregon Ducks

Dana got him back. 5-star Mookie Cook, the No. 4 player in the 2023 class, announced his commitment to the Ducks once again.

They did it once, and now they’ve done it again.

Dana Altman and the Oregon Ducks added a massive piece to the 2023 recruiting class, snagging a commitment from 5-star small forward Marquis ‘Mookie’ Cook on Friday afternoon. Cook chose the Ducks over the Kentucky Wildcats, Gonzaga Bulldogs, and Arizona Wildcats.

Cook, who is rated as the No. 4 overall player in the 2023 class, previously committed to the Ducks earlier this year. He announced his de-commitment in June, claiming that he wanted to open up his recruitment once again.

Since then, Oregon has landed 5-star PF Kwame Evans, the No. 8 ranked player in the class, someone who Cook has a close relationship with. There’s been a feeling that the two desired to play at the college level together, and now it will happen.

The next step in the process is getting both Evans and Cook to sign on the dotted line with the Ducks, solidifying what could be one of the best recruiting classes in Oregon’s history.

Oregon Ducks’ 5-star commit Mookie Cook to star as ‘Young LeBron James’ in upcoming film

Talk about star power. 5-star Oregon commit Mookie Cook has been cast to play none other than LeBron James in an upcoming film.

About a month ago, we found out future Oregon Ducks star Marquis ‘Mookie’ Cook has a relationship with NBA mega-star LeBron James when the future Hall of Famer gave a shoutout to Cook following his commitment to Oregon.

Now we’re learning a little bit more about that relationship. Word has emerged that Cook stars as a Young LeBron James in the upcoming movie “Shooting Stars.”

“James and Bissinger’s Stars chronicled how James and his best friends in Akron formed a close-knit bond that sustained them through a failed national championship tournament and winning a title by the end of high school,” wrote The Hollywood Reporter. “Along the way there were plenty of tests, such as broken homes, jealousies and even James’ own mega-success.”

Talk about becoming a star before you even get to campus.

Cook is among the highest-ranked recruits to sign with the Ducks. 247Sports lists him as a five-star small forward is No. 2 at his position and No. 5 overall in the class. Standing at 6 feet, 7 inches and 200 pounds, the Portland native was ranked No. 1 among players in the state of Arizona.

This one feels like it certainly deserves a QUACK.

On Thursday afternoon, Dana Altman and the Oregon Ducks men’s basketball team scored a massive recruiting win, landing the commitment of 5-star small forward Marquis ‘Mookie’ Cook, a player from Compass Prep in Chandler, Arizona.

Cook, who is rated by 247Sports as the No. 4 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class, chose to come to Oregon over the Gonzaga Bulldogs and Kentucky Wildcats.

A chance to play in Eugene is important for Cook, who is a native of Portland, Oregon. At 6-foot-7, 200 pounds, Cook rates as the No. 2 SF in the nation, and No. 1 player in the state of Arizona.

This is just the second member of Oregon’s 2023 recruiting class, where West Linn’s Jackson Shelstad stood as the lone member until Thursday. Shelstad is a 6-foot point guard who is ranked as a 4-star player, the No. 1 prospect in the state of Oregon.

The 2023 recruiting year is still very young, but the addition of Cook boosts Oregon up to No. 2 in the national ranking, ahead of teams like Arizona, Purdue, North Carolina, and Kentucky. They only trail the Duke Blue Devils at this point. This is coming off of a year where the Ducks finished No. 15 in the 2022 recruiting rankings, adding 5-star C Kel’el Ware and 5-star PG Dior Johnson.
