Marquette at Xavier odds, picks and predictions

The No. 9 Marquette Golden Eagles (10-2, 1-0 Big East) face the Xavier Musketeers (8-4, 0-1) Saturday. Tip-off from Cintas Center in Cincinnati is set for noon ET (FOX). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Marquette vs. Xavier odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Marquette kicked off Big East play with an 80-70 victory over Butler Wednesday but fell short of covering as a 14.5-point home favorite. The Over (148.5) hit, and the Golden Eagles showcased impressive ball control with only 2 turnovers, their lowest mark since Jan. 8, 2011, according to Elias Sports. G Kam Jones led the way, filling the stat sheet with 23 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals in the win vs. Butler.

Xavier suffered its second consecutive loss — both to ranked opponents — falling 94-89 in overtime at No. 13 UConn Wednesday and 68-65 at No. 20 Cincinnati Dec. 14. However, the Musketeers covered the spread in both losses — as 13.5-point underdogs at UConn and as 8-point ‘dogs at Cincy. The O/U lines was 146.5 in both games. Against UConn, G Ryan Conwell scored a game-high 23 points, while G Dante Maddox Jr. came off the bench to add 22 points.

Marquette at Xavier picks and predictions

Prediction

Marquette 82, Xavier 75

Moneyline

PASS.

Marquette will win this game Saturday afternoon, but the -225 price is too costly, so I’ll take my wager to the spread.

Against the spread

BET MARQUETTE -5.5 (-110).

Marquette has dominated this series recently, winning the last 4 meetings vs. Xavier and covering the spread in the last 3. The Golden Eagles’ most recent victory vs. the Muskies was last March 9, an 86-80 triumph as 3.5-point road favorites.

Xavier has also struggled against top competition, losing each of its last 13 games against AP-ranked opponents, dating back to the 2023 Big East Tournament.

The Golden Eagles have proven their mettle with a tough recent stretch, losing to No. 3 Iowa State and No. 24 Dayton and beating then-No. 11 Wisconsin and Butler in their last 4 games.

This game will likely be decided in the paint, where Marquette has the edge. The Golden Eagles out-rebounded Butler 38-27 in their last game, showcasing their physicality. On the other hand, Xavier was outmuscled on the boards 35-27 in its loss to UConn, highlighting a potential weakness.

I dig the GOLDEN EAGLES -5.5 (-110) to steal this game on the road.

Over/Under

BET OVER 154.5 (-110).

The trends point toward the Under, as 5 of the last 6 head-to-head matchups have gone that route.

However, this season is different. Xavier averages 80.4 points per game (PPG), while Marquette scores 81.4 PPG. The Musketeers lead the Big East in 3-point shooting at 40.7%, which ranks ninth in the country according to NCAA.com. Xavier struggles defensively in that department, allowing opponents to hit 35.2% from beyond the arc.

With both teams capable of explosive offense, this game could turn into a shootout.

Butler at Marquette odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Butler at Marquette odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Butler Bulldogs (7-4) and Marquette Golden Eagles (9-2) are lined up for a midweek Big East tussle in Milwaukee. The opening tip at the Fiserv Forum will be at 9 p.m. ET (FS1). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Butler vs. Marquette odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Butler heads to Milwaukee with a 3-game losing streak in tow. The Bulldogs last played Saturday, logging an 84-73 semi-home loss to the Wisconsin  Badgers (BU was +5). Butler has shot just 36.5% from the floor during its slide.

Marquette, which is No. 9 in the USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll, returns home after losing 71-63 at the Dayton Flyers Saturday. The 1-point-underdog Golden Eagles led the contest at UD Arena for over 30 minutes, but faltered late. They have filed against-the-spread losses in 3 of their last 4 games.

Butler at Marquette picks and predictions

Prediction

Marquette 80, Butler 68

Moneyline

No interest. PASS.

Against the spread

Butler is 3-1 ATS across its last 4 games at Marquette.

Last year’s season series was a 1-1 split. Each side logged straight-up and ATS wins on the road. And the Bulldogs getting this many points here makes them the leverage play. The losing streak is what it is, but in 3 previous Quad 1 and II games between Nov. 15-29, Butler went 3-0 ATS.

BU’s current skid started against the current No. 12 Houston Cougars in a road game. While the Bulldogs were blown out 79-51, much of that contest played out more like a 12-to-15-point game.

Marquette had some rebounding issues in its Saturday setback at Dayton, Butler sports a big, experienced lineup that won’t get pushed around in the paint. The Bulldogs can shoot the 3, and they perhaps are a midrange helping-regression candidate after plenty of shooting misfires the last three games.

FanDuel Sportsbook offers up better leverage on the visitors for this one. BACK BUTLER +13.5 (-102).

Over/Under

The last 5 series meetings have cashed on the Under.

The lean here is a slight one, but both squads have marginally reigned-in pace numbers over their last few games. Consider a partial-unit play on FanDuel’s UNDER 150.5 (-110).

Marquette at Dayton odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Marquette at Dayton odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Marquette Golden Eagles (9-1) and Dayton Flyers (8-2) clash in a Saturday showdown at UD Arena. The opening tip-off will be at 7 p.m. ET (CBS Sports Network). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Marquette vs. Dayton odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Marquette, which is No. 4 in the USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll, lost 81-70 at No. 3 Iowa State Dec. 4 but bounced back with an 88-74  comeback win over then-No. 11, now-No. 22 Wisconsin Dec. 7. The Eagles covered as 6.5-point home favorites vs. the Badgers, dominating the final 20 minutes after trailing 39-37 at the half.

Dayton has also been off for 7 days following an 86-62 home win vs. Lehigh 86-62 as a 22-point favorite. The Flyers, who have not lost at home since Feb. 25, 2023, are taking on their fourth ranked foe this season. Included in that set of games is an 85-67 late-November triumph over then-No. 2 UConn in Maui.

Marquette at Dayton picks and predictions

Prediction

Marquette 79, Dayton 76

Moneyline

BET MARQUETTE (+100).

These are a couple high-quality programs, and the advantage is small here but it is a lean on the visiting Marquette 5. Dayton has played a schedule especially light on tough opposing defenses. Saturday, the Flyers will see a Marquette defense BartTorvik pegs as 16th in the nation in efficiency.

The Eagles have a big size advantage, and that should loom as a key against a Flyer squad that likes to shoot from the perimeter or drive the lane. The UD finishes on those drives could be a frustrating disadvantage for the home side.

Marquette has shot well from distance in road/neutral games, and the Eagles take good care of the basketball (as does Dayton).

Dayton is getting some credit because of its 23-game home winning streak. Expect a close game, but one that sees the visitors edge the Flyers by 3-6 points.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread

PASS … unless you want the insurance of taking 1.5 points with Marquette, but it comes with -120 juice.

Over/Under

The Over has cashed in 5 straight Dayton games and is 3-1 across Marquette’s last 4.

Looking at the tempo numbers, this matchup features slightly-slower-than-average UD against slightly-faster-than-average MU. We should expect a high rim-and-3 rate for the Eagles and a decent number of tosses from the charity stripe from the Flyers. Both teams can launch it from distance and go on quick 8-2 runs at any point.

BACK OVER 150.5 (-105).

Wisconsin at Marquette odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Wisconsin at Marquette odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The No. 11 Wisconsin Badgers (8-1) visit the fourth-ranked Marquette Golden Eagles (8-1) Saturday afternoon. Tip-off from Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee is set for 1:30 p.m. ET (FOX). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Wisconsin vs. Marquette odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Wisconsin suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday, falling 67-64 to 23rd-ranked Michigan as a 3-point home favorite with the Under (152.5) hitting. The Badgers had no answer for 7-foot-1 C Vladislav Goldin, who scored 24 points, including 17 in the second half. Wisconsin led 64-61 with 2:37 to go, but Goldin scored the final 6 points of the game, including the go-ahead layup with 1:35 remaining Senior G John Tonje led Wisconsin with 18, while sophomore G John Blackwell added 16 in the defeat.

Marquette is also coming off its first loss, an 81-70 defeat as a 5.5-point road underdog vs. No. 5 Iowa State Wednesday as the Under (153) cashed. The Golden Eagles were outmatched in the paint, getting outscored 42-30. Freshman F Royce Parham scored a career-high 17 (points off the bench) in the loss.

Wisconsin at Marquette picks and predictions

Prediction

Marquette 74, Wisconsin 71

Moneyline

PASS.

This is shaping up to be a close battle between two well-coached teams, so the moneyline feels like a toss-up. Wisconsin (+220) getting 7½ points is too good to pass up in such an even matchup. I’ll take my wager to the spread.

Against the spread

BET WISCONSIN +7.5 (-115).

Wisconsin and Marquette are about as evenly matched as it gets. Both teams shoot the 3 well, defend the 3 well, and keep turnovers to a minimum, averaging fewer than 10 per game. The spread leans toward the Golden Eagles since they’re the home team, but with these schools just 80 miles apart, does home court really matter here?

Wisconsin has won and covered in its last 3 matchups against Marquette, so history is on the Badgers’ side. Both teams are coming off tough losses and have failed to cover in their last 2 games.

With all that in mind, 7½ points feels like too much in what should be a tight game. I’m rolling with the Badgers to cover as “road” underdogs in another close one.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 150.5 (-110).

Both Marquette and Wisconsin bring plenty of scoring power, each averaging 82.9 points per game, but their defenses are just as strong, holding opponents under 70. The Badgers allow 69.0 points per game, while the Golden Eagles yield 65.6 PPG.

The Under 5-3 in the Golden Eagles’ last 8 games, while the Badgers are on a 2-game Under run.

Coach Shaka Smart’s press-heavy Golden Eagles disrupts opposing offenses, ranking second in the country in steals with 11.4 per game — UTEP is first at 11.9, per NCAA. com.

In a gritty in-state showdown, the UNDER 150.5 (-110) looks like the smart play.

Marquette at Iowa State odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Marquette at Iowa State odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The No. 4 Marquette Golden Eagles (8-0) and the No. 5 Iowa State Cyclones (5-1) meet Wednesday at Hilton Coliseum. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Marquette vs. Iowa State odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Marquette has won all 8 games to date, including victories over power conference teams Maryland, Purdue and Georgia, while covering each of those outings. Marquette is 4-1 against the spread (ATS) in the past 5 outings, while the Over has cashed in the past 2 games. It’s the first time the total has gone high in consecutive games this season.

Iowa State bounced back from a 2-point loss against Auburn in Maui, posting back-to-back wins over Dayton and Colorado. The Cyclones are 2-1 ATS in the past 3 games, while going Over in each of the outings.

At home, the Cyclones are 3-0 SU, but 0-3 ATS with the Under going 3-0. However, the Cyclones faced Mississippi Valley State, Kansas City and IU Indianapolis, allowing just 50.7 PPG, so it is facing its first power conference foe at home.

Marquette at Iowa State picks and predictions

Prediction

Marquette 82, Iowa State 78

Moneyline

MARQUETTE (+200) is worth a look in this top-5 battle for a chance to double up.

Both of these teams are battle tested, having faced several power conference opponents already. The Golden Eagles are a better value, and they have an unblemished record to date.

Against the spread

Play MARQUETTE +5.5 (-105) catching nearly 3 buckets if you can’t bring yourself to play it straight up.

Marquette is a very respectable 6-2 ATS so far this season, while Iowa State -5.5 (-115) is 0-3 ATS in 3 games at home, albeit against overwhelmed lower-level teams.

Over/Under

OVER 150.5 (-115) might be the best play on the board.

These 2 teams can both fill up the stat sheet. Marquette has managed 84.5 PPG, and it shoots 48.5% from the field. Defensively, it allows teams to hit at a 41.8% clip from the field.

Iowa State has cashed high in the past 3 games, all in the islands, averaging 89.7 PPG while allowing 83-plus points twice in those 3 contests.

Western Carolina at Marquette odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Western Carolina at Marquette odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Western Carolina Catamounts (2-3) face the No. 11 Marquette Golden Eagles (7-0) Saturday at Fiserv Forum. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. ET (FS2). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Western Carolina vs. Marquette odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Western Carolina faced a challenging non-conference slate and are coming off back-to-back losses to ACC teams. They recently suffered a 91-57 defeat as 20.5-point underdogs at Florida State Tuesday with the Over (145.5) hitting. They struggled offensively, shooting just 32.8% (21-for-64) from the field and Florida State racked up 15 steals to Western’s Carolina’s 6.  Junior G Brandon Morgan led the Catamounts with 13 points.

The Golden Eagles remained perfect with a commanding 94-59 victory over Stonehill Wednesday, covering as 34.5-point home favorites for their fourth cover in a row. The Over (142.5) cashed, snapping a 2-game Under streak. Sharp shooting from beyond the arc (47.6%, 10-for-21) and a relentless defense that forced 18 Stonehill turnovers fueled the win. F David Joplin finished with 27 points and 7 rebounds, both game-highs.

Western Carolina at Marquette picks and predictions

Prediction

Marquette 90, Western Carolina 55

Moneyline

PASS.

The Golden Eagles are so heavily favored that BetMGM Sportsbook isn’t even offering a moneyline.

Against the spread

BET MARQUETTE -33.5 (-110).

Coach Shaka Smart has his Golden Eagles off to a strong start, navigating a challenging non-conference slate that includes wins over No. 12 Purdue, George Mason, Maryland and Georgia. The Golden Eagles are 6-1 ATS, including a 34.5-point line against Stoney Brook in a season-opening 102-62 rout. They have also won their last 11 non-conference home games at Fiserv Forum.

Joplin has been dominant, averaging 28.0 points over the last 2 games, showcasing versatility inside and out. G Kam Jones, the team’s leading scorer (19.8 points per game) gives Marquette a solid 1-2 punch. He is shooting an impressive 44.8% from beyond the arc.

Western Carolina, meanwhile, is 0-3 on the road, including losses to ACC foes Florida State and Wake Forest (82-69). Outmatched and unable to contain Marquette’s firepower, the Catamounts are unlikely to keep this one close.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 151.5 (-115).

I’m leaning toward the Under as the total feels too high. Marquette scored 94 against Stonehill but held the Skyhawks under 60. While that game went Over, the line was 9 points lower, making this number seem inflated.

Marquette’s defense ranks 43rd nationally — per NCAA.com — in points allowed per game (63.9) and thrives under Smart’s system.

Western Carolina, which averaged 60.0 points per game in its 3 contests with D-I opponents, hasn’t faced anything close to Marquette’s defensive intensity.

The Catamounts likely won’t crack 60, which should keep this game comfortably Under the total. The defensive disparity is simply too great.

Marquette vs. Georgia odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Marquette vs. Georgia odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The No. 15 Marquette Golden Eagles (5-0) face the Georgia Bulldogs (5-0) Saturday at Imperial Arena in Nassau, Bahamas. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Marquette vs. Georgia odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Marquette is No. 15 in the USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll. The Golden Eagles are coming off a 76-58 home win over the No. 6 Purdue Boilermakers Tuesday, closing as 5.5-point favorites. They were led by G Stevie Mitchell, who dropped a game-high 21 points in the win. Marquette has covered 4 of its 5 games this season.

Georgia also enters undefeated and is coming off a 93-45 home win over the Alabama A&M Bulldogs Tuesday, closing as a 26-point favorite. F Asa Newell led the team with 17 points and hit 7 of 8 field-goal attempts. The Bulldogs are 3-2 against the spread (ATS) on the season and 1-0 ATS in games with a single-digit spread.

Marquette vs. Georgia picks and predictions

Prediction

Marquette 82, Georgia 74

Moneyline

PASS.

The Golden Eagles are surging and are a more proven side; however, they aren’t worth taking here.

Against the spread

BET MARQUETTE -6.5 (-115).

Marquette has impressed, and it has proven difficult to stop offensively. Its top 2 offensive weapons are shooting over 55% from the field, and it has held its 2 Power 4 opponents to just 66 points per game this season. Marquette is 2-0 ATS when either an underdog or a single-digit favorite.

The Bulldogs have also exceeded expectations, but they haven’t played a team of Marquette’s caliber. The only Power 4 team they’ve played is Georgia Tech, and despite winning, they closed as road favorites, which doesn’t suggest the Yellow Jackets are that strong of a side.

Take the more impressive side, and back MARQUETTE -6.5 (-115).

Over/Under

BET OVER 152.5 (-110).

Both teams shoot efficiently from the field and can score the ball with ease. Georgia has scored 77 or more in every game, so while it will face a stiffer opponent, it should still be able to get points on the board. It should force the tempo to be faster and want to push the pace.

The Golden Eagles are 2-3 O/U but have scored at least 76 in 4 of their 5 games. Expect them to not shy away from a quick game. They are 1-1 O/U against Power 4 opponents. Considering those trends, take OVER 152.5 (-110).

Purdue at Marquette odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Purdue at Marquette odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Purdue Boilermakers (4-0) and Marquette Golden Eagles (4-0) tussle in a Tuesday night top-15 game in Milwaukee. Tip time at Fiserv Arena will be 9 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Purdue vs. Marquette odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Purdue is No. 6 and Marquette is No. 14 in the USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll.

The Boilermakers are coming off a big Friday win over the No. 7 Alabama Crimson Tide. The Boilermakers were 4-point home underdogs in that game and prevailed 87-78. Purdue was tagged with just 3 turnovers in that victory.

The Golden Eagles last played on Thursday, coming through as a 2.5-point underdog in a 78-74 triumph at the Maryland Terrapins. An 18-for-24 performance at the free-throw line and a plus-6 in turnovers helped the Eagles remain unbeaten.

Purdue at Marquette picks and predictions

Prediction

Purdue 73, Marquette 71

Moneyline

No interest. PASS.

Against the spread

The last 10 times when tabbed as a road underdog, Purdue has gone 7-2-1 ATS.

Purdue has the younger team, and its a group playing in a tough environment on its fist road trip. But the Boilermakers, save for shooting just 68.4% from the foul line, have been incredibly efficient on offense. They are shooting 46% from 3-point-land; that’s not a number that will hold up, but the distance shooting certainly figures as an area of strength. Purdue also has gotten to the line with good frequency, has defended the perimeter well and has taken good care of the ball.

Those latter 2 points bode well for this matchup in Milwaukee. So does the fact Purdue has already faced — and fared well against — an up-tempo team like the Eagles. Auburn’s early pace numbers are tabbed 10th-fastest by BartTorvik.

Marquette’s defense has been a little suspect in a couple games, especially in yielding a few too many looks at the rim.

These 2 Midwest powers have locked horns each of the last 2 seasons. Purdue won both games straight up and went 1-0-1 ATS.

BACK THE BOILERMAKERS +4.5 (-105).

Over/Under

Last year’s meeting cashed on the Over — a 78-75 Purdue win on a 140.5 — but the 3 previous meetings (2017-21) landed on the Under. The Under is 4-1 in Purdue’s last 5 November road games and is 6-3 across the Boilermakers’ last 9 games as a road underdog.

Peg this one for an above-average pace, mostly due to Marquette’s influence. But don’t expect much point spiral from second-chance or turnover/transition points.

The UNDER 152.5 (-105) is the value side here.

Marquette at Maryland odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Marquette at Maryland odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”4141″ ]

The Marquette Golden Eagles (3-0) and Maryland Terrapins (3-0) are lined up for a high-profile non-conference battle Friday. The opening tip at the XFINITY Center will be at 8 p.m. ET (FS1). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s college basketball odds around the Marquette vs. Maryland odds, and make our expert college basketball picks and predictions.

Marquette, which is No. 15 in the USA TODAY Sports Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll, hits the road after what was a second-half fade in an eventual 70-62 win Monday vs. the Central Michigan Chippewas. The Eagles worked their way to a 20-point lead in the first half, but failed to cover a 26.5-point spread when CMU outscored them 35-28 in the second half.

The Terrapins also last played Monday, when they defeated Florida A&M 84-53. The favored-by-32 Terps teetered on a cover multiple times in the final minute of play before coming up 1 point shy of a push. Maryland was a plus-14 in turnover margin Monday; the Terps have forced an average of 18.7 turnovers per game.

Marquette at Maryland picks and predictions

Prediction

Maryland 75, Marquette 73

Moneyline

No interest: PASS.

Against the spread

Marquette is playing on the road for the first time, but it is a veteran team and one that brings defense and a hot pace. Maryland went just 2-7 ATS in its first 9 games last season and overall at home was just 6-11 ATS.

The Eagles tempo and proclivity for launching 3s (34.0 per game so far) figures as a key 1-2 punch in the attack on Maryland. Against Big Ten comps Illinois, Nebraska and Penn State last season, the Terrapins went 2-3 ATS.

Still, Maryland by maybe a bucket is about right. Make it a portion of a unit perhaps, but TAKE MARQUETTE +1.5 (-110). Of course, if you like Marquette to win, bet the moneyline instead at plus-money.

Over/Under

Both teams get a lot of stops and both display good handles on the basketball. But both are also tremendous in the takeaway department and do credible work in getting point-efficient looks at the rim and from beyond the arc. Both also figure to be a bit due on the 3-ball.

In those above-reference speed-and-3 comps for Maryland last season, the Over went 4-1.

BACK THE OVER 145.5 (-115) in this game.

Central Michigan at Marquette picks and predictions

Prediction

Marquette 90, Central Michigan 62

Moneyline

PASS.

While there are odds available at other books, you should obviously avoid betting Marquette because you’ll have to lay at least -4545. Look to the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

BET MARQUETTE-26.5 (-115).

Central Michigan kicked off its season with a win Nov. 4, but lost at home to Stony Brook Thursday after blowing a double-digit lead in the final 10 minutes. Now, it faces a tough road matchup against ranked Marquette.

The Golden Eagles were tested by George Mason Friday, but pulled away late. Marquette also defeated Stony Brook by 40 Nov. 4, while the Chippewas lost by 1. Despite the big spread, Marquette should take care of business and improve to 3-0 on the season.

Over/Under

BET OVER 149.5 (-115).

Marquette is averaging 92 points per game. It scored 102 points in its opener and just missed the Over in its second game by 5 points. It ranks in the top 25 nationally for 3-point attempts, averaging 33 per game.

Central Michigan is scoring 73.5 points per game and has gone Over in both games this season. After a tough test against George Mason, Marquette is set to come out strong and ready to dominate in Monday night’s matchup.
