Report: Ravens star CB avoided major knee injury in win over Buccaneers

Ravens star CB Marlon Humphrey could miss time after avoiding serious knee injury in win over Buccaneers

The Ravens will practice on Wednesday in preparation for a Week 8 matchup against the Browns, and cornerback Marlon Humphrey will likely be a limited participant if he practices.

Humphrey was forced to leave Monday night’s win over Tampa with a knee injury, erasing a dominant performance that saw the cornerback intercept Baker Mayfield twice.

On Wednesday, Ian Rapoport reported that Humphrey avoided a severe knee injury but could be a game-time decision for Sunday afternoon in Cleveland.

Humphrey has performed at a Pro Bowl level this season, and he’s among the league leaders with four interceptions and seven passes defended. If Humphrey can’t play, Baltimore has rookies Nate Wiggins and T.J. Tampa at cornerback.

Arthur Maulet just returned to the lineup as a potential contributor as well.

The Ravens started the game down 10-0, then scored 41 unanswered points, jumping out to a massive lead before allowing 21 late points to the Buccaneers in the fourth quarter. Even with the defensive letdown, Baltimore’s performance won’t overshadow Lamar Jackson’s five-touchdown pass performance, as the Ravens moved to 5-2 on the season with a 41-31 win over Tampa at Raymond James Stadium.

Baltimore amassed 508 yards of total offense but had a dominant performance ruined as the defense allowed over 430 yards of offense for Tampa.

With preparation for the Browns in Week 8 set to begin, here’s an instant analysis of the big win on Monday Night Football.

Marlon Humphrey exits game vs. Bucs with knee injury after logging 2 interceptions

Marlon Humphrey exits game vs. Buccaneeers with knee injury after logging 2 interceptions

Marlon Humphrey entered the 2024 NFL season with no more guaranteed money on his contract and Nate Wiggins breathing down his neck after being selected in the first round of April’s draft.

Through seven games played, Humphrey has regained his All-Pro form and looks in line to earn a contract extension.  Humphrey has been dominant in the first half against the Buccaneers, snagging two interceptions and putting Baltimore in position to take an 11-point lead into the half.

Humphrey’s night could be over after he suffered a knee injury while securing his second interception off Baker Mayfield.

Humphrey has two tackles, two passes defended, and two interceptions in an active first half.

After weeks of comparison, Lamar Jackson showed why Jayden Daniels and likely no other quarterback in the NFL is on his level. Jackson outduels Daniels and Derrick Henry’s runs for two scores as the Ravens beat Commanders 30-23 at a raucous M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday.

The game offered a playoff atmosphere as the Battle of the Beltway featured two teams atop their division and two likely playoff participants.

Commanders final injury report for Week 6 vs. Ravens

Who is in and who is out for Sunday’s game between the Ravens and Commanders? Final injury report is here.

The Washington Commanders completed practice on Friday ahead of their huge Week 6 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens and ruled only one player for Sunday’s showdown.

Rookie safety Tyler Owens will miss the game with a shin injury. Owens has contributed only on special teams thus far this season.

Washington listed three players as questionable, including starting running back Brian Robinson Jr. Starting defensive end Clelin Ferrell was limited Friday but has no status for Sunday’s game, meaning he will play for the first time since Week 2. Ferrell had one sack in each of Washington’s first two games.

The Ravens listed three players as out for Friday, but in some good news for their struggling pass defense, standout cornerback Marlon Humphrey is questionable. It didn’t look good on Wednesday for Humphrey, but he has been limited over the last two days.

Here’s Sunday’s final injury report for the Ravens and Commanders:

Out: S Tyler Owens (shin)

Questionable: RB Brian Robinson Jr. (knee), LB Jordan Magee (knee), DE Efe Obada (tibia, fibula)

John Harbaugh on Ravens pass defense: ‘we’re just way better than that’

“The No Fly Zone” is a nickname often bestowed upon elite secondaries who play top-notch pass defense. The Baltimore Ravens have definitely not been that this season, as they currently rank 31st (second from the bottom) in passing yards allowed per game.

The Baltimore secondary has been whatever the opposite of a no-fly zone is, so I guess we could call it “Deregulated Commercial Airspace.”

They were laissez-faire with opposing pass catchers again on Sunday, as Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow completed 30-39 passes for 392 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception.

That brought the Ravens to pass yards per game allowed up to 280.2, with only the Jacksonville Jaguars worse, at 287.8.

The numbers are rather skewed because the Ravens’ run defense is tops in the league, and hence, most teams pass against them because that is all they can effectively do.

Baltimore allows 60.4 yards per game rushing, with the Minnesota Vikings a distant second at 67.2.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh admits his team could do a much better job defending the pass.

“[Burrow] had pressure in his face numerous times, the pocket was getting pushed, guys were coming at him, he stood in there and made some really great throws, like on-the-money throws off his back foot,” Harbaugh said.

“We had tight coverage where they made the catches.

“That’s football. But I also believe that we compounded the yardage because we didn’t play things as well as we need to play them. Probably five or six plays in the passing game from a coverage standpoint that we’re just way better than that.

“We’re way better than to play some of those things the way we played them. To win our conference, to win our division, to win a game against the teams we’re going to play … we’ve got to be on point every single play with what we’re doing.”

It’s a lot better to try to fix these problems while you have a winning record and are leading your division.

If Harbaugh and his defensive staff can somehow figure this out, then this has the potential to be a special season in Charm City.

Angel Reese’s side-eye with Marlon Humphrey became an instant meme

Ange Reese totally nailed “The Office” camera stare.

Angel Reese might have unintentionally created a new meme.

Admittedly, when we wrote about Angel meeting Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey during a recent Ravens game, it was because Marlon heaped praise on Angel, seemingly telling her he watched basketball because of her. (Also, Seth Rollins was in the background during the exchange, which seemed so wild).

But, upon further inspection, something else also happened. It’s possible Reese might not have been totally into the interaction because internet sleuths uncovered that Angel seemingly gave a nearby camera a side-eye right after meeting the Ravens cornerback. Here’s the exchange again:

Just before the clip cuts, Angel looks into the camera like an episode of The Office or Abbott Elementary. Here’s what we mean:

Ultimately, fans believe this look is because Humphrey is seemingly insincere, and Angel is on to him. They uncovered a video from 2023 of Marlon talking about LSU and Iowa’s national title game.

If Reese was why Humphrey started watching women’s basketball, the clip might somewhat contradict that notion. Of course, Reese’s reaction, paired with the discovery, created a new meme.

Angel Reese and Marlon Humphrey had the best sideline exchange at a Ravens game with Seth Rollins watching

An Angel Reese and Seth Rollins crossover was not on the bingo card.

Angel Reese‘s offseason tour continues with a trip to her hometown, Baltimore, to see the Ravens take on the Bills.

Angel’s been living her best life as she heals from a season-ending injury. She recently attended a Rams game earlier this month and even found some time to attend an Usher concert. So, it makes sense that she continues doing the things that make her happy, like going home to Baltimore.

While in town Sunday, she was honored at a Ravens game, and cameras captured the moment cornerback Marlon Humphrey shook Angel’s hand pregame. Of course, the internet saw the clip capturing the exchange, and lip-readers think he told Angel, “I watch women’s basketball because of you.”

But that wasn’t the only thing people noticed. Wizards guard Bub Carrington and *checks notes* WWE wrestler Seth Rollins were also on the field as Marlon and Angel met.

Fans could not get over the wild crossover and had a field day. Here’s what they’re saying about the whole sequence (Warning: NSFW language):

Lamar Jackson clears up post-game Instagram Live situation with Marlon Humphrey: ‘I’m all about winning’

Lamar Jackson clears up post-game Instagram Live situation with Marlon Humphrey: ‘I’m all about winning’

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey is known for his vibrant personality and sense of humor off the field. For years, Humphrey has followed up on victories by going live on Instagram and having fun with his teammates. Still, quarterback Lamar Jackson did not seem to want any part of it after the Ravens narrowly escaped a fourth-quarter comeback against the Dallas Cowboys.

We shouldn’t even be on live right now,Jackson said when being questioned by Humphrey on the plane following the game.

Jackson was asked about the situation after the video gained traction online.

I just didn’t want the camera on me at the time,Jackson said. “[Marlon Humphrey] knows this, I’m all about winning. I don’t want to say win in style, but when we’re up, I just want to punish people. I just want to get out of there with a dub – clear-minded. We have things to work on. There’s always going to be things to work on, no matter if you beat a team 40 to nothing or 28-26, but I didn’t want the camera on me. That’s my brother – I know he’s going to do what he does, but it’s like, ‘Not right now. I’m a little ticked off on how the game went.’ That’s all.

The Ravens have become notorious for blowing fourth-quarter leads in recent seasons, so it should be no surprise that someone as serious about winning as Jackson was not pleased with almost letting it happen again. After getting their first win of the season, Baltimore now returns home for a big showdown on Sunday Night Football with the undefeated Buffalo Bills.

Rookie DB Nate Wiggins is exactly what the Ravens needed

Baltimore Ravens DB Nate Wiggins produced a game changing play to help his team outlast the Dallas Cowboys in week 3.

Baltimore Ravens defensive back Nate Wiggins forced a timely fumble on Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb in the team’s week three win.

Wiggins, who missed week two, can and will help teammate Marlon Humphrey get rest on defensive possessions. Defensive coordinator Zach Orr should be mindful of Humphrey’s attrition and continue to delegate his reps covering the top opposing wide receiver with Wiggins.

The Dallas Cowboys scored 19 fourth-quarter points before running out of time in regulation. Ranking At No. 32 in the NFL in opponent’s passing yards, the Ravens’ secondary still allowed a laughable 379 pass yards in week 3.

Nevertheless, the Ravens will take this three-point victory and strategize on ways to improve the pass defense as the season continues. Lastly, having Wiggins back in the lineup didn’t just help; it rendered the turnover very well, saving the game.
