Titans work out DT Marvin Wilson following key injury

Wilson spent last season in the USFL

The Tennessee Titans are working out defensive tackle Marvin Wilson following Marlon Davidson’s season-ending injury in the team’s joint practice on Thursday, as KPRC 2 Houston’s Aaron Wilson first reported.

On Thursday, Davidson suffered a season-ending bicep injury in the Titans’ joint practice with the Seattle Seahawks.

Wilson, 25, is looking to return to the NFL after spending the 2023 NFL season with the USFL’s Birmingham Stallions. There, he registered 18 tackles, including 4.5 for loss and a 0.5 sack.

Prior to that, Wilson was with the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns after initially being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Florida State. In a sample size, the 6-foot-5, 305-pound lineman recorded seven tackles in two games.

Wilson was a significant disruptor in four years at Florida State, amassing 110 tackles, including 15.5 for loss, 9.5 sacks, six pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.

Former Tiger Marlon Davidson re-signs with Tennessee Titans

The former All-SEC defensive lineman appeared in five games in 2023, totaling 10 tackles and a sack.

Former Auburn star defensive lineman and 2020 second-round pick [autotag]Marlon Davidson[/autotag] is staying with the Tennessee Titans in 2024.

After an up-and-down start to his NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons and San Fransisco 49ers, Davidson found a home in Music City last season. The former All-SEC lineman appeared in 5 games in 2023, totaling 10 tackles and a sack. Davidson earned a start in 3 of those 5 games despite opening the season on the teams’ practice squad.

Despite the Titans actively pursuing and acquiring free agents this offseason, the team is still a few years away from challenging the likes of the Kansas City Chiefs, and maybe the AFC South rival Houston Texans, for AFC Championship honors. This makes a short-term deal with the 25-year-old Davidson a win for both sides, as Davidson gets to prove his second-round worth while Tennessee staff works towards evaluating young talent to build a winner.

Davidson’s career numbers sit at just 39 total tackles with two sacks, one fumble recovery, and one interception. If the former Tiger has a solid camp in Nashville, he realistically could double those career numbers next season.

Davidson and the Titans will open up the NFL preseason in early August. The full schedule for each team across the league is expected to be released later in May.

Former Falcons second-round pick Marlon Davidson signs with Titans

Former Falcons second-round pick Marlon Davidson has signed with the Tennessee Titans

The Atlanta Falcons selected defensive lineman Marlon Davidson in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft, but the timing couldn’t have been worse. The team fired head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Thomas Dimitroff were fired just five weeks into Davidson’s rookie season.

The former Auburn standout was phased out on defense after the Falcons switched to a 3-4 scheme in 2021. Davidson was released early in the 2022 season. After a short stint in San Francisco, Davidson caught on with the Tennessee Titans in 2023.

The former Falcons second-round pick appeared in five games for the Titans last season, making three starts. Davidson, 25, landed a new contract with Tennessee on Monday, the team announced on Twitter:

Atlanta selected another defensive lineman in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft, trading up for Clemson’s Ruke Orhorhoro. The team also added Washington edge rusher Bralen Trice, Oregon defensive lineman Brandon Dorlus and Georgia’s Zion Logue.

Titans agree to terms with DL Marlon Davidson

The Titans are bringing back defensive lineman Marlon Davidson.

The Tennessee Titans made an addition to their defensive line room on Monday, with the team agreeing to terms with Marlon Davidson.

A former second-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 2020, Davidson was signed to the Titans’ practice squad in October of last year after being released by the San Francisco 49ers.

Davidson ended up getting into five games (three starts) with Tennessee, tallying 10 tackles (two for loss) and one sack.

The Titans desperately needed to add more depth to their defensive line, which was one of the team’s biggest weakness going into the offseason. Davidson will have a good shot at making the 53-man roster and earning a depth role out of training camp.

Tennessee figures to have three starting spots set upfront in 2024, with Jeffery Simmons, draft pick T’Vondre Sweat and free-agent signing Sebastian Joseph-Day.

As far as other depth options along the defensive line are concerned, the Titans also have TK McLendon, Shakel Brown, Quinton Bohanna and Keondre Coburn. Tennessee also has a few defensive linemen among their reported undrafted free-agent signings.

Titans place Amani Hooker on IR, promote Marlon Davidson

The Titans have placed starting safety Amani Hooker on injured reserve, ending his 2023 season.

The Tennessee Titans made a pair of roster moves on Friday, one of which included the placement of safety Amani Hooker on injured reserve. Hooker popped up on the injury report with a knee issue earlier in the week.

Thanks to the minimum four-week stay, Hooker will now miss the remainder of the campaign. Taking his spot on the roster is defensive lineman Marlon Davidson, who was promoted from the practice squad.

Going into 2023, the main concern with Hooker was his inability to stay on the field after he played in just 21 games combined the two seasons prior.

Hooker was able to stay healthy and play in 13 of the first 14, but this will be the third straight season in which he hasn’t played in a full campaign. He last did that in his first two seasons in the NFL.

When he was on the field, Hooker, who signed a three-year, $30 million extension in 2022, played fairly well and was one of the few sources of turnovers for Tennessee.

Hooker has two more years left on his deal after this one but also has outs in his contract if the Titans want to go that route.

He can be cut for just a $5 million dead-cap hit ($4.4 million savings) in 2024 and a $2.5 million dead-cap hit ($8.14 million savings) in 2025.

Here is a look at several headlines from Week 15 that feature Auburn’s top NFL players.

Titans promote 2, elevate 2 ahead of game vs. Dolphins

The Titans announced a total of four roster moves ahead of their Week 14 game against the Dolphins.

The Tennessee Titans announced a total of four moves ahead of their “Monday Night Football” game against the Miami Dolphins.

The team announced it has promoted both punter Ty Zentner and running back Jonathan Ward to the active roster from the practice squad.

Also, linebacker JoJo Domann and defensive lineman Marlon Davidson are standard practice squad elevations for the game against the Dolphins. Both will revert back following the contest.

Zentner will be making his Titans debut as he replaces injured punter Ryan Stonehouse, who is out for the season. Ward will serve as the third running back behind Derrick Henry and Tyjae Spears and will help on special teams.

If they’re active and see the field, Domann and Davidson would also be making their Titans debuts.

Domann was signed this week and interim special teams coordinator Tom Quinn mentioned him as someone who could serve as a personal protector for punts, along with Ward.

Davidson was inked to the practice squad back in October but has yet to play a game.

The Titans and Dolphins will kick off from Hard Rock Stadium at 8:15 p.m. EST.

Titans sign former Falcons 2nd-round pick to practice squad

Former Falcons second-round pick Marlon Davidson has been signed to Titans’ practice squad

The Atlanta Falcons hit a home run in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft by selecting cornerback A.J. Terrell out of Clemson, however, the team didn’t have much luck in the rounds that followed.

In the second round, the Falcons drafted Auburn defensive lineman Marlon Davidson out of Auburn. While many analysts praised the pick initially, Davidson never found his footing in Atlanta and was eventually released by the team in 2022.

The Tennessee Titans signed Davidson to their practice squad on Wednesday, just days before their Week 8 matchup against the Falcons.

Davidson signed with the San Francisco 49ers back in May but he was released earlier this month. The former second-round pick appeared in 19 games for the Falcons from 2020-2021.

Titans add DL Marlon Davidson to practice squad

The Titans have added DL Marlon Davidson to the practice squad.

When reporters arrived in the Tennessee Titans’ locker room on Wednesday, there was a new face there in defensive lineman Marlon Davidson.

According to ESPN’s Turron Davenport, the Titans have signed the former second-round pick to their practice squad after working him out during the bye week.

Davidson is just the latest addition to the practice squad after the team inked both linebacker Joseph Jones and running back Jonathan Ward on Tuesday.

After being drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in 2020, Davidson appeared in 19 games over two seasons with the team, but things didn’t pan out. He landed on injured reserve at the start of 2022 and was eventually the following month.

Davidson spent time on the San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad this season but didn’t appear in a game for them. He hasn’t taken a snap since the 2021 campaign.

The Auburn product tallied 21 tackles, one sack and a pick-six during his time in Atlanta. It’s doubtful he’ll see the field in Week 8, but if he does, Davidson will be facing his former team.

Titans held tryouts with 7 players on Thursday

The Titans brought seven players in for tryouts on Thursday, including three familiar faces.

The Tennessee Titans are on their bye week and are taking the extra time this week to get a look at some players, according to the league’s transactions wire.

Among the players to try out for the Titans on Thursday were three familiar faces in running back Jonathan Ward, linebacker Joseph Jones and defensive back Josh Thompson.

Ward and Thompson were both with the Titans during the offseason, also, but suffered injuries that thwarted their bids at the team’s initial 53-man roster.

This is Ward’s second meeting with the Titans this month. Tennessee only has two running backs on the active roster, so there’s a need for depth there. Thompson and Ward can offer help on special teams, also.

Jones appeared in 24 games with the Titans from 2021 through 2022, playing mostly on special teams. He saw just 64 snaps on defense in that span.

Now, a look at the rest of the players the Titans worked out, along with some information for each.
