LOOK: Commanders rookies tour Washington, D.C.

The Commanders’ rookies spend the day in D.C.

It’s been a busy week off the field for the Washington Commanders’ 2024 rookie class.

On Wednesday, the Commanders had a Day of Service, during which they spent time at three different locations in Washington, D.C. Owner Josh Harris’s wife, Marjorie, led a contingent of Commanders along with president Jason Wright, several team legends, and the rookies.

On the final stop of the Day of Service, the rookies spent time at a D.C. elementary school greeting the kids, throwing passes with them, and painting birdhouses. The rookies were appreciative of their day in the community.

Friday brought another busy day for the rookie class. Just like previous Washington rookie classes, the group spent the day visiting some of the nation’s most famous landmarks in the nation’s capital.

Here’s first-round pick Jayden Daniels greeting some young fans.

And finally, this iconic visual:

Washington, D.C., is the most influential city in the world, so it makes perfect sense for the Commanders to have their rookies understand the importance of community.

Josh Harris’ wife, Marjorie, a very pleasant guest on local radio

Marjorie Harris spoke on the importance of community for the Commanders.

“We are going to be in the community. It’s what we do, it’s what we like to do,” explained Marjorie Harris.

Wife of Commanders majority owner, Josh, Marjorie is the chair of the Washington Commanders Foundation. Marjorie appeared on the Grant and Danny Show Wednesday on 106.7 The Fan in Washington, D.C.

Marjorie, along with the 2024 rookie class, Washington Legends, and Commanders employees, were hosting a Day of Service in three area locations.

Interestingly enough, Grant Paulsen began by asking whether she preferred “Marjorie or Mrs. Harris.” Think Daniel Snyder insisting on being addressed as Mr. Snyder. However, in this case, Marjorie replied that she preferred Marjorie and that “Mrs. Harris is my husband’s mom.”

Marjorie committed Wednesday to being a very active community service day. She was talking with Grant and Danny from an elementary school, and she displayed a sense of humor, informing Grant and Danny that she could assure them she was not purchasing any beers for the elementary students.

Rather than simply raking in their millions and keeping it to themselves,  Marjorie explained to Grant and Danny that Wednesday was their first day of giving back to the community.

“This is part of buying a sports team. To us, this is a community asset, and we believe in sharing with the community.”

Marjorie enjoyed the fact that several team members had joined in the efforts across town on Wednesday. “I think this is a part of the culture of the organization that we’re building…We want everyone that is a part of it to feel the same way that we’re here to build a championship team, and at the same time, give back to the community and make sure that as we succeed on the field, the city succeeds as well.”

There was a lot of fun during the on air exchange as Marjorie displayed a sense of being able to relate well personally with Grant and Danny, and they were enjoying her not taking herself too seriously as well. She even commented humorously regarding the handshake last year on national television between her husband, Josh, and Joe Buck.

It was a good start for Marjorie in the community, and hopefully, many will begin to take part in her efforts to lead the Commanders in Community Service events.

Marjorie Harris: ‘For now, it’s the Commanders’

Marjorie Harris discusses potential name change. Two words stood out.

Almost four years later, the name debate continues to be a topic of conversation for the Washington Commanders.

On Wednesday, owner Josh Harris’s wife, Marjorie, led a Day of Service in Washington, D.C., which also included president Jason Wright, several team legends, and the entire 2024 rookie class.

At one point during the Commanders’ final stop at a local D.C. school, Mrs. Harris met with the local media where she was asked about the name.

She didn’t back down from the question either.

“As you would imagine, everybody has an opinion about the name,” Harris said. “Some good, some bad, some in the middle. And I think that, we have a lot of work to do, and so that name issue is going to be on the side for now until we can get things going.”

Harris’s answer was in line with everything else we’ve heard from this regime. They didn’t shut it down but said the on-field product, the fans and the community were the top priorities.

But that wasn’t all she said.

“Quite frankly, I had a whole day out in the community, and I kept referring to the team as the Commanders. And you know what? Sounds pretty good to me. So, for now, it’s the Commanders.”

The two key words here: “For now.”

Harris acknowledged that the name remains an issue. While another name change isn’t happening imminently, it remains a possibility down the road.

Harris handled this as well as anyone possibly could.

WATCH: Commanders QB Jayden Daniels visits D.C. elementary school

Jayden Daniels plays pitch and catch with some young fans.

You knew it wouldn’t take long for Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels to become a fan favorite.

From the moment Daniels heard his name called on draft night last month and put on that Washington hat, fans have been buying his jerseys and watching every clip they can find on the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner.

This week, the Commanders took a break from Organized Training Activities (OTAs). They held a Day of Service led by Marjorie Harris, team president Jason Wright, several team legends, and the 2024 rookie class. This was Daniels’ first community event as a member of the Commanders, and it was no surprise that he was a hit.

Here’s Daniels meeting with some young fans at Rocketship Rise Academy Public Charter School in Washington, D.C., courtesy of Scott Abraham of ABC 7.

It was no surprise that the kids wanted to play catch with the city’s new superstar quarterback.

One more of Daniels throwing to some new fans.

The quarterback is always the hero in Washington. Unfortunately, fans have been waiting a long time for that quarterback. The hope is the Commanders have found their guy in Daniels.

Josh and Marjorie Harris make significant donation to Philadelphia homeless shelters

Philadelphia 76ers managing parner Josh Harris and his wife Majorie are making a big donation to help the community.

The Philadelphia 76ers announced on Thursday that Managing Partner Joshua and Marjorie Harris will make a “6-figure donation” to three homeless shelters in the Philadelphia area. The beneficiaries include Project HOME, Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission, and Youth Service INC.

The funding will go towards providing shelter, case management, and three meals per day for 500 men in emergency shelter; providing food, shelter, and emergency funds for youth experiencing housing insecurity, emergency childcare, direct case management services, parenting education, and more; and providing shelter for homeless mothers and children in addition to family counseling, personal recovery services, health care, and education.

As noted by Noah Levick of NBC Sports Philadelphia, star center Joel Embiid donated his All-Star winnings to the same causes last year.

This is a big contribution by the Harris family and it is admirable that they are helping out their communities.
