Longhorns Marianna Singletary picks up SEC Award for third straight week

The talented sophomore was named the SEC Player of the Week for the second time this season and the Defensive Player of the Week for the third consecutive week

On Monday, Longhorns volleyball star Marianna Singletary continued to add to her trophy case. The talented sophomore was named the SEC Player of the Week for the second time this season and the Defensive Player of the Week for the third consecutive week. She is the first player in SEC history to be named outright Defensive Player of the Week three straight times.

Over the last week, Singletary has added 15 blocks to her resume to help keep the Longhorns undefeated in conference play. Her best performance came on Sunday against Georgia when the Charleston native posted 11 total blocks, including two solo stops.

As Singletary has made headlines this season, she has also been a points machine. In 16 games, Singletary has recorded 146 points and has been at the center of the Longhorns’ success. Due to her play this year, Porter-Gaud College has taken on a larger role and proved her value.

With the Longhorns chasing a conference title, they will need Singletary to continue her recent play. This season, she has been a difference-maker and helped make Texas one of the most formidable teams in the SEC.

After a few days off, Singletary will get to build on her success on Wednesday night when the Longhorns welcome Texas A&M to Gregory Gym.
