Marcus Semien completely forgot he was supposed to be on deck and cameras captured his shocked reaction

Oops!

It even happens to professional baseball players in MLB: Forgetting you’re supposed to be on deck to go up at bat. It’s a panicky feeling, even if it’s not your turn at-bat, just forgetting to be a part of the natural progression of the lineup.

That’s what happened to the Texas Rangers’ Marcus Semien, and the cameras from Bally Sports Southwest just happened to be focused on him as you can see the whole thing unfold on the infielder’s face: Something like, “La dee dah, chewing my gum, good game so far and — OH NO I GOTTA RUN!”

Semien talked about it after the game, too:

Yankees turn unorthodox triple play off bizarre Blue Jays’ baserunning lapse

Mental mistakes from the Blue Jays cost them here.

The New York Yankees are no stranger to triple plays this summer. Less than a month after getting out of a ninth inning jam with one, the Yankees have turned yet another triple play, this time off the back of a bone-headed Toronto Blue Jays mistake.

In the bottom of the first of Thursday’s game, with the Blue Jays threatening with runners on second and third, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a bouncing grounder to pitcher Michael King, securing the out at first. Then, the real fun begins as both Marcus Semien and Bo Bichette get caught in rundown after the former tries to back up to third, anticipating a throw home.

The result is a messy, but incredibly effective, triple play rundown for the Yankees thanks to some terrible baserunning decisions.

I also have to highlight Gio Urshela’s incredible turnaround throw back to third after tagging out Semien that was able to get Bichette to complete the triple play. Without that quick reaction to see Bichette attempting to get to third while everyone else was occupied, the Yankees likely wouldn’t have gotten that third out on the play.

Both Bichette and Semien were at fault for the original baserunning mishap that caused the second out in the sequence, but the former probably should have just tried to go back to second instead of forcing the play at third for that final out. Instead of threatening to put up runs early on the Yankees, the Blue Jays ended their first inning with a completely avoidable baserunning blunder.

Warriors share good luck message with the Oakland Athletics on Opening Night

On Opening Night for their former neighbor, The Golden State Warriors shared a good luck message with the Oakland Athletics.

After wishing the San Francisco Giants good luck on Opening Day, the Golden State Warriors turned their attention to their former neighbor. On Friday, the Oakland Athletics hosted the Los Angeles Angels to start a truncated edition of the 2020 MLB season.

Before the A’s took the field, the Warriors shared a message with the team on social media. Along with a video from the moment Klay Thompson tossed the first pitch in Oakland, the Warriors wished the A’s the “best of luck” for their season.

Via @warriors on Twitter:

After being claimed by the A’s in 2018, Thompson’s younger brother Trayce played three games with Oakland before being designated for assignment. In February, Thompson signed a minor-league deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks for 2020.

In their opening night matchup, Frankie Montas got the nod against Andrew Heaney and the Angels. With a pair of late runs from Marcus Semien and Matt Chapman, the A’s held the lead heading into the top of the 9th inning. However, Bay Area native Jason Castro hit a home run off Oakland’s All-Star closer Liam Hendriks to tie the game.

With new rule changes in place, the A’s and Angels went into extra innings to start the season. In the bottom of the 10th, Matt Olson blasted a grand slam walk-off home run to send the Athletics home with an Opening Day victory, 7-3.

The A’s will be back at The Oakland Coliseum on Saturday for game two against Mike Trout and the Angels.

Prediction

Athletics 7, Angels 3

Moneyline (ML)

These two pitchers met in the final regular-season game of 2019 and it was a pitchers’ duel of sorts.

Heany went for 5 1/3 innings with one earned run and Montas threw six innings with one earned run in a 3-2 Angels’ victory; however, Heaney is 2-3 with a 5.12 ERA in his last seven starts versus the Athletics while Montas is 4-0 with a 2.57 ERA in his last seven against the Angels.

Oakland owned Los Angeles last season (13-6) and the A’s are 7-1 in the last eight meetings between the two. The vig on the favorite (-152) is a fair price and I don’t see why the Athletics cannot continue their dominance of the Angels. Oakland is a sharp sleeper pick to go deep in the playoffs.

TAKE the ATHLETICS (-152) to beat the Angels. New to sports betting? A $152 bet on the Athletics earns a profit of $100 if Oakland wins.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

It seems like every other year the Athletics are one of the surprise teams in MLB. Sports betting markets didn’t take the Athletics as seriously as they should have, hence Oakland’s third-best run line record in the majors (91-72).

As you read above, Montas has had bankable success against the Angels and when you mix in the Athletics’ above-average bullpen—seventh in ERA, fifth in batting average and fifth in WHIP—we LIKE the ATHLETICS -1.5 (+125) on the run line.

New to sports betting? A $50 bet on the Athletics earns a profit of $62.50 if Oakland wins by two or more runs.

Over/Under (O/U)

Oakland and Los Angeles were ranked similarly in every major hitting category last season. And though there are a lot of big names in both lineups, the Athletics played to the third-most Unders in the majors and the Angels had a 79-76-7 Over/Under record in 2019.

Of course, CF Mike Trout could do damage but the absence of expensive free-agent signee Rendon makes the Angels’ lineup a little easier to handle.

All that being said, the lineups’ firepower in this matchup compels me to AVOID betting the projected total of 8.5.
