Auburn flips five-star WR Cam Coleman from Texas A&M

Auburn has not one but TWO five-star wide recievers committed in Cam Coleman and Perry Thompson.

[autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and [autotag]Marcus Davis[/autotag] have done it again.

The Tigers have pulled off several impressive flips under Freeze but they pulled off their biggest one yet on Friday, landing five-star wide receiver [autotag]Cam Coleman[/autotag], who had been committed to Texas A&M since July 4.

It was far from an easy process for Auburn to land Coleman, they looked like the favorite to land the Central-Phenix City product over the summer but he shockingly committed to [autotag]Jimbo Fisher[/autotag] and the Aggies. They never stopped pursuing him though and when Fisher was fired they capitalized.

Coleman is the No. 7 overall player and No. 3 wide receiver in the 247Sports composite ranking. He is the No. 1 player from Alabama.

He is set to become Auburn’s third-highest-rated signee in program history, trailing only Byron Cowart and Derrick Brown, making him the highest-rated offensive player in Auburn history.

He is Auburn’s 19th commit and fourth at wide receiver, joining fellow five-star [autotag]Perry Thompson[/autotag] and four-star products [autotag]Bryce Cain[/autotag] and [autotag]Malcolm Simmons[/autotag], all of whom are from Alabama.

Predictions pour in for Auburn to flip 5-star WR Cam Coleman

Auburn is looking to land a third five-star prospect and second at wide receiver.

Five-star wide receiver [autotag]Cam Coleman[/autotag] was one of Auburn’s top targets in the 2024 recruiting cycle before he surprisingly committed to the Texas A&M Aggies back in July.

[autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and wide receivers coach [autotag]Marcus Davis[/autotag] never stopped recruiting him though and after the Aggies fired Jimbo Fisher, Auburn is in a great place to flip the Phenix City product.

Coleman has visited Auburn multiple times during the season and is set to return to the Plains for Auburn’s game against New Mexico State and return next week for the Iron Bowl.

With Auburn only increasing its recruitment of Coleman, predictions have poured in for him to flip his commitment to Auburn, Bud Elliot of 247Sports got things started on Friday by logging a crystal ball prediction in Auburn’s favor. On Saturday his colleagues at 247Sports, Christian Clemente, Bryce Koon and Steve Witfong all joined him.

Michael Langston, who covers Florida State recruiting for On3, also put in a prediction for Auburn to land Coleman. The Seminoles were believed to be Auburn’s top competition for the five-star wide receiver.

Auburn is looking to add Coleman to an already impressive wide receiver class, headlined by fellow five-star [autotag]Perry Thompson[/autotag]. They also have commitments from four-star [autotag]Bryce Cain[/autotag] and four-star [autotag]Malcolm Simmons[/autotag].

Coleman is the No. 8 overall player and No. 3 wide receiver in the 247Sports composite ranking. He is also the No. 1 player from Alabama. If Auburn were to sign him, he would become the third highest-rated signee in program history, behind Derrick Brown and Byron Cowart.

Local WR Daylyn Upshaw to visit Auburn for Georgia game

He is emerging as a key target in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

The Auburn Tigers are set to host numerous recruits this weekend when they host the Georgia Bulldogs in the 127th edition of the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry. One of the recruits is wide receiver [autotag]Daylyn Upshaw[/autotag] who will be making the short drive from Phenix City down to the Plains.

Upshaw has taken numerous visits to Auburn since wide receivers coach [autotag]Marcus Davis[/autotag] offered him a scholarship back in March. They were the second program to extend him an offer, behind only Texas, since then FSU, Penn State and several other programs have followed suit.

Despite an impressive offer list, he is a three-star prospect and the No. 84 wide receiver and No. 24 player from Alabama in the 247Sports composite ranking.

Upshaw has had a strong start to the season for Central-Phenix City, emerging as their No. 2 wideout behind five-star [autotag]Cam Coleman[/autotag], a major Auburn target in the 2024 cycle. Upshaw has caught 19 passes for 409 yards and five touchdowns in their first five games.

Key Auburn WR target Ny Carr decommits from Georgia

Can Hugh Freeze and Co. pull off another flip?

One of Auburn’s top targets is back on the open market.

Four-star wide receiver [autotag]Ny Carr[/autotag] had been committed to the Georgia Bulldogs since July 2022 but on Sunday he announced he was decommitting from the Bulldogs. This could be good news for Auburn as they have kept recruiting him and he visited for Big Cat Weekend in July.

Carr is the No. 53 overall player and No. 11 wide receiver in the 247Sports composite ranking. The Moultrie product is also the No. 9 player from Georgia.

He would be another great addition to what is a loaded class at wide receiver, potentially joining five-star [autotag]Perry Thompson[/autotag] and four-stars [autotag]Bryce Cain[/autotag] and [autotag]Malcolm Simmons[/autotag]. With Auburn’s wide receivers struggling to make an impact to start the season, wide receivers coach [autotag]Marcus Davis[/autotag] is looking to bring in a big class.

Auburn isn’t the only school that is making a push for Carr, Florida State and Miami are both looking to lure him out of the Peach State.

The 6-foot, 170-pounder has had a strong start to his senior season, catching 30 passes for 489 yards and nine touchdowns in four games for Colquitt County.

Auburn offers elite 2026 wide receiver Naeem Burroughs

Auburn has entered the mix for wide receiver Naeem Burroughs.

[autotag]Naeem Burroughs[/autotag] is just a high school sophomore but he has already emerged as a top recruit in the 2026 cycle and has the scholarship offers to match. He already has over 20 including the likes of Alabama, Georgia and as of Wednesday, he now has one from Auburn.

The four-star prospect announced the news on social media, saying  “AGTG ✞ Blessed to earn a offer from Auburn University!”

Burroughs is from Jacksonville, Florida and is one of 11 wide receivers that Auburn and wide receivers coach [autotag]Marcus Davis[/autotag] have offered in the 2026 cycle.

He is the No. 44 overall player and No. 6 wide receiver in the 247Sports composite ranking. He is also the No. 7 player from Florida.

The 5-foot-11, 160-pounder’s sophomore season is off to a sensational start for the Bolles High School, catching 19 passes for 346 yards and six touchdowns in four games.

Can Shane Hooks become Hugh Freeze’s next great receiver?

Hooks was Jackson State’s top receiver last season, and hopes to have similar success at Auburn.

[autotag]Shane Hooks[/autotag] was Jackson State’s leading receiver last season, so it came as a surprise to learn that he elected to transfer to Auburn instead of following his former coach, Deion Sanders, to Colorado.

Hooks reeled in 66 catches for 775 yards and ten touchdowns last season at Jackson State, and he has already given Auburn fans a taste of his playmaking ability. Will he be added to the list of great wide receivers coached by Hugh Freeze by season’s end? He has potential, but there is one aspect of his game that Freeze hopes to see improvement in.

“I wish he played the game a little faster. We’ve got to get him to do that. I think some of that comes from maybe not playing against the speed of this level yet,” Freeze said. “If we can get him convinced to run every route and knowing, ‘Dude, you can get a break. Run this route like the game depends upon it.’ I think that’s the case, truthfully, with a lot of our transfer receivers.”

When it comes to receivers, Freeze has a type. His best receivers at Ole Miss were 6-3 or taller. As for Hooks, he stands 6-4, which fits the mold of what Freeze looks for in a receiver.

“I think you have to have a catch radius in this league,” Freeze said. “You’re not going to create tremendous separation in this league when they’re in man-to-man situations all the time.”

Wide receivers coach [autotag]Marcus Davis[/autotag] says that he likes Hooks’ ability to win 50-50 balls and that he is a physical player.

Auburn offers elite 2025 WR Cortez Mills

He is one of the top players in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

Auburn’s recruiting has kicked it up several notches under [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and the Tigers are looking to keep the momentum going.

While it’s the 2024 class that has gotten the attention, Auburn’s coaches are starting to work on the 2025 cycle and on Friday they offered [autotag]Cortez Mills[/autotag], one of the top wide receivers in the country.

Mills is from Homestead, Florida, and already has over two dozen offers and more are surely on the way for the talented pass catcher. He is the No. 98 overall player and No. 16 wide receiver in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 19 player from the Sunshine State.

Making the jump from the Sun Belt to the SEC, Auburn wide receiver coach [autotag]Marcus Davis[/autotag] has proven he can recruit at the highest level and Mills would be another big get. He has already flipped five-star wide receiver [autotag]Perry Thompson[/autotag] from Alabama and landed four-star targets [autotag]Bryce Cain[/autotag] and [autotag]Malcolm Simmons[/autotag], all in less than one year on the job.

The Tigers currently have one commit in their 2025 class, four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Malik Autry[/autotag].

Another one: Auburn flips five-star WR Perry Thompson from Alabama

Thompson is the second five-star to flip to Auburn from an SEC rival in a week’s time.

Big Cat Weekend had a great start when four-star wide receiver Malcolm Simmons announced his commitment to Auburn on Saturday morning.

The day became more riveting when Auburn landed its second five-star recruit of the 2024 class.

[autotag]Perry Thompson[/autotag], the nation’s No. 4 wide receiver in the 2024 class, announced Saturday afternoon he plans to flip his commitment from Alabama to Auburn. He made the announcement live on [autotag]Walker White[/autotag]’s Instagram live. Fellow recruits who are visiting Auburn for Big Cat Weekend celebrated the news by throwing head coach [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] into a pool.

Although committed to Alabama since last year, Thompson has been a frequent visitor to the Plains since receiving an offer on Jan. 11. Since receiving an offer, Thompson has visited the Plains six times.

After a visit in June, Thompson told Christian Clemente of Auburn Undercover that wide receiver [autotag]Marcus Davis[/autotag] contacts him every day, and that he believes he can leave a legacy at Auburn.

“This environment and the coaches, they made me feel like family,” Thompson said in an interview with Auburn Undercover. “Just spending time with coach Freeze, coach Davis. Going through the plays and seeing how they’d use me in the offense. Just tell them how big of a legacy I can make if I come here.”

With Thompson’s commitment, Auburn has added three wide receivers to its 2024 class. Auburn also has two five-star recruits on its docket. [autotag]Demarcus Riddick[/autotag] committed to Auburn on Wednesday.

Auburn is the heavy favorite to land in-state 5-star wide receiver Cam Coleman

Auburn is sutrging for elite in-state wide receiver Cam Coleman.

Central-Phenix City High School has produced some great wide receivers over the past years but Auburn has been unable to take advantage of the opportunity and watched them leave the state to head to Clemson. That run may be coming to a close as they have become heavy favorites to land five-star wide receiver [autotag]Cam Coleman[/autotag].

On3’s Cole Pinkston and Jefrey Lee are the latest recruiting experts for On3 to predict the in-state target will pick Auburn and their predictions give them a 93.4% chance of landing Coleman according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine.

He is the No. 10 overall player and No. 3 wide receiver in the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also the No. 1 player from Alabama.

They may be the favorite, but his recruitment is far from over as  Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU, and Texas A&M are still pushing hard for the 6-foot-4 and 185-pounder.

He has taken official visits to Auburn, Texas A&M, Clemson and LSU with one more to FSU likely to happen during the season. However, he has visited Auburn more than anywhere else and he stated that his relationship with Auburn’s wide receiver coach [autotag]Marcus Davis[/autotag] is the best of any coach recruiting him.

“We talk about everything, especially stuff outside of football,” Coleman said of Davis. “(Auburn is) recruiting me the hardest. I have a bond with Coach Davis and Hugh Freeze always talks about he wants to be the head coach that I talk to the most. Auburn is really coming after me hard.”

A decision date has not been set but he is expected to wait until closer to early signing day in December to announce his commitment.

Auburn Tigers Snapshot Profile: No. 8 Nick Mardner

The veteran adds some great size and expereince to Auburn’s wide receiver room.

Going into the 2023 football season, Auburn Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Tigers’ roster.

Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] in his first season on the Plains.

Up next is transfer wide receiver [autotag]Nick Mardner[/autotag]. He was the first of four receivers that Auburn landed out of the transfer portal and should feature heavily in the rotation at wide receiver.

Depth Chart Overview

Mardner is on his third team after starting his career at Hawaii and spending last season at Cincinnati. He and new Auburn wide receivers coach [autotag]Marcus Davis[/autotag] were both at Hawaii in 2021, and this familiarity should enable him to be someone Auburn can lean on.

Auburn also added [autotag]Shane Hooks[/autotag] at the X-Wide receiver spot and Hooks figures to be the starter due to his past production. However, Mardner should be able to carve out a role for himself, especially in the red-zone threat due to his great size. Expect Mardner to see plenty of action as the coaching staff rotates him, Hooks and [autotag]Camden Brown[/autotag] heavily.
