Is Marcus Brady the favorite to be the Colts next OC?

Don’t be surprised if the Colts already have their next OC.

The Frank Reich coaching tree grew a bit bigger on Thursday as the Indianapolis Colts saw offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni take the head coach job with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Now, the Colts have to replace Sirianni’s role as the offensive coordinator. We detailed several candidates who could hold that role, but it appears there is a favorite in the running already.

That would be quarterbacks coach Marcus Brady.

This isn’t much of a surprise. Brady has been with the Colts for three seasons now. He joined the staff in 2018 as the assistant quarterbacks coach and was promoted to quarterbacks coach before the 2019 season and has held the role since.

He was an underrated part in working with Andrew Luck upon his return from shoulder surgery. That road had plenty of bumps in it but Luck seemed to hit his stride when working with Brady in 2018.

Seeing as the Jaguars requested to interview Brady for their vacant offensive coordinator role under new head coach Urban Meyer, it would make sense that the Colts would want to promote him in order to keep him in the offense.

It remains to be seen what the Colts have planned in replacing Sirianni, but we may already know who the favorite is to be the next offensive coordinator.

Report: Jaguars request to interview Marcus Brady for vacant OC job

The Jacksonville Jaguars have requested to interview Indianapolis Colts quarterbacks coach Marcus Brady for their vacant offensive coordinator role, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

After the Jaguars hired Urban Meyer to be their next head coach to replace Doug Marrone, they will now be on the search for an offensive coordinator. Brady is starting to generate some interest around the league given what he’s done with the Colts over the last three seasons.

Having worked under Frank Reich and with quarterbacks like Andrew Luck, Jacoby Brissett and Philip Rivers over the last three seasons, it makes sense that Brady would start to get some looks.

Brady is also thought to potentially be in the running for the offensive coordinator role with the Houston Texans but that’s only if Leslie Frazier gets hired to be their next head coach.

The Colts seem to have plenty of assistants getting attention around the league. Offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni seems to be a finalist for the Eagles head coach job. Defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus is in the running for the Texans head coach job. Now, defensive backs coach Jonathan Gannon is getting looks from the Bears and the Chargers to be their defensive coordiantor.

This will be something to watch over the next week or so if Brady—or anyone else—gets hired for an external promotion.

Colts QBs coach Marcus Brady an OC candidate for Texans?

Marcus Brady could have an external promotion waiting.

It’s that time of the offseason where assistant coaches will be looking for promotions either within their own organization or with another team. The latter might be the case for Indianapolis Colts quarterbacks coach Marcus Brady.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated wrote in the MMQB column Monday that Brady could be an offensive coordinator candidate for the Houston Texans if Leslie Frazier is hired as the new head coach.

I think Leslie Frazier has a real shot in Houston, and there’s an interesting offensive coordinator name attached to his candidacy: Colts quarterbacks coach Marcus Brady. Brady’s very well-regarded in Indy and has an interesting resume, with much of his professional career, both as a player and coach, spent in Canada.

Brady has been with the Colts for a few years now. He was the assistant quarterbacks coach in 2018, having a hand in the return of Andrew Luck and his strong campaign that season. Then he was promoted to quarterbacks coach in 2019 and has held the role since.

Brady has been lauded in the organization for his work with the quarterback room and with head coach Frank Reich. Working with Luck, Jacoby Brissett, Philip Rivers and Jacob Eason, Brady can add that to his resume when looking for an external promotion.

None of this is official until we see what happens with the Texans. They could go another direction than Frazier, which means Brady would most likely stay put in Indy.

But this will still be a situation to watch for over the next week or so while the Texans look for their next head coach.
