The Toronto Maple Leafs (4-4-1) take on the Winnipeg Jets (8-0-0) Monday. Puck drop from Canada Life Centre is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Maple Leafs vs. Jets odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.
Season series: First meeting; Leafs swept 2-0 last season
The Leafs dropped an OT affair as -117 favorites at the Boston Bruins 4-3 Saturday. They’ve now lost 3 straight and 4 of 5. C Auston Matthews scored his 4th goal with under 2 minutes to go to send it to OT. LW Matthew Knies also scored his 4th as he looks to be in a breakout campaign after scoring 15 goals last season.
The Jets continue to be a turbulent monster with a 5-3 win at the Calgary Flames Saturday — the Jets were -108 on the moneyline. They return home after a 3-game road trip. LW Kyle Connor scored his 6th goal of the season in the Calgary win. Meanwhile, G Connor Hellebuyck is second in the league with a 1.66 GAA and .940 SV% — behind Carolina’s Frederik Andersen’s 1.48 GAA and .941 SV%.

Maple Leafs at Jets projected goalies
Anthony Stolarz (3-2-1, 2.19 GAA, .927 SV%) vs. Connor Hellebuyck (6-0-0, 1.66 GAA, .940 SV%, 1 SO)
Stolarz was solid in a Saturday’s 4-3 overtime loss at Boston. He stopped 30 of 34 shots, and it was the first time this season he allowed more than 2 goals. Stolarz is fifth in the league with 5 goals saved above expected.
After allowing just 2 goals in his first 3 games combined, Hellebuyck has allowed 3, 2 and 3. That’s not terrible, but he is starting to even out after a dominant start to the campaign. He faced the Leafs once last season, falling 4-2 at home, but he saved 26 of 29 shots fired his way.

Maple Leafs at Jets picks and predictions
Prediction
Maple Leafs 3, Jets 2
Moneyline
I’m calling it. The streak ends Monday. Leafs coach Craig Berube has seen a ton of these Jets through the years as the coach of the St. Louis Blues. He didn’t have a ton of success, but he now has the kind of weapons at his disposal to play a heavy team and score when the levee breaks.
TAKE MAPLE LEAFS (-110).
Puck line/Against the spread
I’m going to take MATTHEW KNIES OVER 1.5 SHOTS (-160) here. He has goals in 3 of his last games and 2+ shots in 7 of 9 games. With the defensive focus on Matthews, Knies will continue playing with confidence.
Over/Under
The Leafs are 4-4-1 O/U, and the Jets are 4-3-1. The Over is 4-1 in the Jets’ last 5 games. The Leafs are 3-0-1 O/U in their last 4.
So this is going to be a bit of a contrarian take. Both goalies are playing really well. Hellebuyck has yet to allow more than 3 goals. It’ll be close, but LEAN UNDER 6 (-105) with expectations tempered for a potential push.
