the season….”

‘ I’m encouraged by what’s transpired since we got back from Virginia.’ Everything Buzz Williams had to say after the home victory over DePaul

Here’s what Texas A&M Head Coach Buzz Williams had to say after the Aggies’ home victory over DePaul

After a long road stint, the Aggies returned home to face the DePaul Tigers and had themselves a night. They shot lights out for the majority of the game and over 60% in the 1st half alone.

Coach Buzz Williams made it a point to schedule a challenging non-conference, and they took a few lumps early, but it will all pay off when league play starts. Multiple back-to-back road games seemed to take their toll on the shorthanded Aggie team against Virginia, where they appeared a little sluggish.

That did not go unnoticed as Buzz talked about how they spent just as much time on the road as they did playing and how being back at home with some time off was needed.

“I think we were gone 11 days in the month total. We were almost gone as much as we were at home. Our guys were never in a groove here in our gym.”

“Guys are spent physically, mentally, and emotionally. Our staff has been good and a credit to the strength of our players. I’m encouraged by what’s transpired since we got back from Virginia.”

‘Being us was the best thing for us tonight ‘ Everything the players had to say after the home victory over DePaul

Here’s what Texas A&M guards Manny Obaseki & Jace Carter had to say after the Aggies’ home victory over DePaul

After a long road stint, the Aggies returned home to face the DePaul Tigers and had themselves a night. They shot lights out for most of the game and over 60% in the 1st half alone.

With Tyrece Radford currently not on the court or the Aggies, they have been trying to find a way to replace his production, and Manny Obaskei and Jace Carter came up big tonight. They combined for a total of 24 points and five three-pointers.

Transfer Jace Carter has been in a shooting rut to start the season and was finally able to see a few of his three-pointers drop today. Both Obaskei and Carter spoke about how hard he’s been working and the confidence the team has in him:

“It brings a lot of joy to me to see everybody eating. I was so happy for Jace, he’s been working every day. That’s what he does. Everybody’s been working.” – Manny Obaskei

“My teammates, they instill so much confidence in me. They tell me to keep shooting.” – Jace Carter

Report: Aggies guard Manny Obaseki has been medically cleared to resume play

Aggies guard Manny Obaseki received some great news heading into Tuesday night’s road game vs. Ole Miss

Texas A&M (21-8, 13-3 SEC) received some huge news just hours before their 8:00 PM CT. Tip-off vs. Ole Miss in the form of injured guard Manny Obaseki, who since breaking his hand in the Aggie’s win against the Florida Gators on Jan. 4th, has missed nearly two months of play in order to heal and rehab his way back on the court.

For the past two weeks, Head coach Buzz Williams provided numerous updates regarding Obaseki’s progress, while the sophomore even dressed out during the last two games against Tennessee and Mississippi State, providing some of the best signs of potentially returning much sooner than later. And out of nowhere, the good news finally came to light.

On Tuesday afternoon, CBS College basketball insider Jon Rothstein reported that, according to an unnamed school official associated with the program, Manny Obaseki has been cleared to return to all basketball-related activities ahead of Tuesday night’s game. Not only is this gigantic news for a team in need of an offensive spark off the bench after one of the worst second-half performances in their loss to Mississippi State on Saturday, but for an ascending player to finally get back to playing the game he loves, and helping Texas A&M and Buzz Williams reach their lofty postseason goals one step at a time.

The Aggies open up their 2022 basketball season by defeating Louisiana Monroe 87-54

The Aggies open up their 2022 basketball season defeating by Louisiana Monroe 87-4

The Aggies couldn’t have asked for a better season-opening win in one of their most important seasons under 4th-year head coach Buzz Williams, defeating the Louisana Monroe Warkhawks 87-54 on Monday night.

In the first game without former star guard, and 2021 leader Quenton Jackson, the starting lineup included returning starters Tyrece Radford, Wade Taylor IV, Henry Coleman, Witchita State transfer Dexter Dennis, and freshman Solomon Washington.

From start to finish, the Aggies showed consistency on offense and were lethal from beyond the arc, shooting an impressive 46 % from 3-point range while hitting 12 3’s, while starting guard Wade Talyor IV (18 points, 4-6 from 3) showed great improvement as a shooter and should be a go-to offensive threat from the outside as the season progresses. Witchita State transfer Dexter Dennis had a solid debut, shooting 4-6 for 11 points and 3-4 from three, the second most on the night behind Taylor IV. While shooting 50.8 percent from the field, the Aggies outrebounded the Warhawks 47-36, while mounting a 38-point lead during their second-half run.

Led by junior forward Henry Coleman III, the Aggies’ inside game began to pick up in the second half, scoring 6 of his 11 points after the break, while Michigan State transfer forward Julius Marble also contributed 6 points in the paint, as the two will continue to jell down the stretch to eventually become a feared duo.

Fan favorite Hayden Hefner (12 points, 2-5 3-point) and Manny Obaseki (4-6, 10 points) showed just how deep Buzz Williams’s roster truly is, as the latter Obaseki will most likely join the starting lineup down the stretch as the former 5-star continues to increase his level of play as the season ramps up. All in all, the team did its job and blew out an inferior opponent, while showing that they belong in the conversation for one of the better teams in the SEC, and the country at large. Gig ’em.
