Photos of Penn State’s latest transfer addition, WR Malik McClain

Here are the best photos of Penn State’s newest receiver out of the transfer portal

Penn State has been active in the transfer portal this offseason in search of help at the wide receiver position. After missing on a couple of potential transfer targets, Penn State seems to have come out in a good situation with the additions of Dante Cephas from Kent State and, more recently, [autotag]Malik McClain[/autotag] from Florida State.

McClain is a former four-star recruit from Florida State’s Class of 2021, and he has already played in 25 games as he makes his way to Happy Valley. McClain is a player that has some room for development, which Penn State’s next wide receivers coach will surely be tasked with maximizing.

The addition of McClain will help give quarterback [autotag]Drew Allar[/autotag] a solid supporting cast in the passing game as Penn State is losing its top two receivers form 2022 in [autotag]Parker Washington[/autotag] and [autotag]Mitchell Tinsley[/autotag].

Here are some of the best photos from McClain’s two seasons in Tallahassee playing for Florida State (and one from his high school days at IMG Academy).

Ex-Florida State wide receiver transfers to Penn State

Penn State stabilizes wide receiver outlook with former Florida State receiver transfer Malik McClain

For the second time in the past week, Penn State has added a wide receiver to the program from the transfer portal. Former Florida State wide receiver [autotag]Malik McClain[/autotag] has reportedly enrolled in classes at Penn State and committing to the Nittany Lions. McClain has yet to announce the commitment on his Twitter profile, but he has updated his profile image on the social media account.

McClain played in all 13 games for Florida State during the 2022 season and caught 17 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns. He caught 16 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns in 2021.

McClain is a former four-star recruit of Florida State’s Class of 2021 from IMG Academy, a program Penn state is certainly no stranger to. At the time of his recruitment out of high school, McClain was the no. 38 receiver in the nation.

McClain’s transfer commitment is paired with the recent addition of [autotag]Dante Cephas[/autotag] from Kent State. Together, Cephas and McClain will help to fill the veteran void left by the departures of [autotag]Parker Washington[/autotag] and [autotag]Mitchell Tinsley[/autotag], who are both off to the NFL this spring. They should each help to take the pressure off the leading returning receiver, [autotag]Keandre Lambert-Smith[/autotag], who is coming off a terrific performance in the Rose Bowl.

McClain will also help to give the offense an experienced target, along with Cephas, as [autotag]Drew Allar[/autotag] steps in to lead the offense at quarterback in 2023. Allar is already having some Heisman hype surrounding him entering the new season. Having a receiver like McClain should help that cause.

This news also comes a day after Penn State added its second commitment in the Class of 2024 with the addition of four-star linebacker [autotag]Anthony Specca[/autotag]. So it’s been a pretty decent week for head coach James Franklin.

Of course, the transfer portal has a way of breaking even sometimes. Also on Wednesday, Penn State wide receiver [autotag]Jaden Dottin[/autotag] announced he was entering the transfer portal.

Penn State wide receiver Jaden Dottin enters transfer portal

This Penn State wide receiver enters the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining.

As the window closes on the open transfer period in college football, Penn State appears to be set to see another player leave for another opportunity. [autotag]Jaden Dottin[/autotag] announced, via Twitter, on Wednesday he has made the decision to enter the transfer portal.

“Thank You Penn State and everyone involved with me for everything!” Dottin said in his message on Twitter. “I am forever grateful! I am now officially in the transfer portal with [three] years of eligibility.”

As Dottin noted, he will have three years of eligibility to make use of wherever he ends up next.

In three seasons at Penn State, Dottin recorded stats in just one game. That game came early in the 2022 season with two receptions for 14 yards in a win against Ohio.

By entering the transfer portal, Dottin is free to communicate with any other college football program interested in recruiting him. Dottin is also free to withdraw his name from the transfer portal database if he ultimately decides to remain at Penn State. Most players entering the transfer portal do leave for other programs, but it is not unprecedented for a player to evaluate their options and decide to stay put.

Penn State has not lost any current wide receivers to the transfer portal so far this offseason, but the Nittany Lions are set to lose [autotag]Parker Washington[/autotag] and [autotag]Mitchell Tinsley[/autotag] from last year’s roster. Washington declared early for the 2023 NFL draft and Tinsley’s eligibility expired.

Penn State has added to the wide receiver group by way of the transfer portal. It most recently picked up a commitment from former Kent State wide receiver [autotag]Dante Cephas[/autotag] and former Florida State wide receiver [autotag]Malik McClain[/autotag].

We’ll see where Dottin heads next and wish him the best of luck in his new environment.

Notre Dame at Florida State: Second-Quarter Analysis

That quarter didn’t start great, but it got better as it went along.

Notre Dame had its hands full with a Florida State team that knew what it was doing. A will-imposing defensive line for the Seminoles and the Irish’s struggles with their own defense were not boding well. However, momentum can be fleeting, and a couple of plays shifted it back towards the visitors. The Irish find themselves up at halftime, 17-14.

The Irish’s first possession of the second quarter found them deep in their own territory, and they ultimately couldn’t advance the ball past the original line of scrimmage. Jay Bramblett’s 38-yard punt meant the Seminoles could start in Irish territory. The Seminoles barely broke a sweat in marching to the end zone. A 21-yard pass to Malik McClain and a 20-yard run by Lawrance Toafili set up a sweeping 2-yard touchdown run by Jordan Travis to give the Seminoles their first lead of the game.

In need of a response, the Irish put together a nice drive led by the running duo of Kyren Williams and Chris Tyree. However, Jack Coan took a sack and lost yardage on another play as the drive stalled at the Seminoles’ 29-yard line. Jonathan Doerer made the offense’s effort worth it by kicking a 48-yard field goal, his first such score of the season.

After that, the Seminoles took back-to-back false starts, showing why they were among the most penalized teams in the country last year. On third-and-8, Travis threw a deep pass, and Kyle Hamilton made him pay with Notre Dame’s first interception of 2021.

Gifted a short field, Coan and the rest of the offense took full advantage. He found Michael Mayer for a 15-yard completion, then threw a 23-yard pass toward the end zone that Joe Wilkins caught on a 50-50 ball. Wilkins barely registered a blip on the radar in 2020, so to see him score a touchdown in the first game of 2021 is rather nice.

Overall, you can’t complain about the scoreboard to this point. Still, this doesn’t appear it will be the cakewalk some were expecting, at least not yet. The offense needs to put together clean drives, and the defense has to impose its will on an opposing offense that has shown signs of regressing. With half the game to play, now is not the time for either unit to let up.

2021 WR Malik McClain lands Alabama offer

The Alabama coaching staff continues to go to work on the recruiting trail trying to build the 2021 class, and that includes Malik McClain.

The effects of the coronavirus have slowed down the sports world, but that does not mean that the Alabama coaching staff isn’t continuing to work on recruiting.

On Monday night, 2021 three-star wide receiver Malik McClain announced via his Twitter account that he had received an offer from the Crimson Tide:

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, McClain, who is now at IMG Academy in Bradenton (Fla.), is rated as the No. 618 overall player, No. 93 wide receiver and No. 89 player from the state of Florida.

Expect the towering 6-foot-5, 195-pound receiver to climb those rankings in the near future, however.

McClain possesses top-notch length and leaping ability which could help him emerge as an ideal red zone threat who can go up and win 50-50 matchups.

In addition to his offer from Alabama, McClain also has other SEC programs such as Arkansas, Kentucky, Ole Miss and Texas A&M after him as well. Do not be surprised if that offer list grows in the coming weeks or months, either.
