Alabama lands commitment from 2025 3-star IOL Mal Waldrep

Alabama landed a commitment from 2025 three-star interior offensive lineman Mal Waldrep on Tuesday.

The Alabama Crimson Tide received some positive news on the recruiting trail on Tuesday evening. 2025 three-star interior offensive lineman Mal Waldrep announced his commitment to Alabama. Waldrep is the second offensive lineman to commit to the Crimson Tide in as many days. The other being 2025 four-star interior offensive lineman Michael Carroll.

Waldrep chose to commit to Alabama following an official visit to Tuscaloosa this past weekend. Ultimately, he chose the Crimson Tide over other programs like the Auburn Tigers, Clemson Tigers, and Tennessee Volunteers.

He will likely play the guard position at the college level. That is the position that the Alabama coaching staff has recruited him to play. Waldrep is listed at 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds. He plays for Central-Phenix City High School in Phenix City, Alabama.

With Alabama likely losing both of its guards — Tyler Booker and Jaeden Roberts to the 2025 NFL draft, Waldrep will have the opportunity to come in and compete for early playing time. Waldrep helps bolster Alabama’s offensive line haul for the ’25 recruiting class.

In-state offenisve tackle Mal Waldrep schedules visit to Auburn

Mal Waldrep, one of the best offenisve linemen in Alabama, will be visiting Auburn this weekend.

Auburn is building its 2025 recruiting class through the trenches with five of their eight commits playing along the offensive or defensive line. While it’s a great start, they are far from done, and offensive line coach [autotag]Jake Thornton[/autotag] will be hosting a key in-state target this weekend in [autotag]Mal Waldrep[/autotag].

Waldrep has already taken three visits to the Plains, including watching the Tigers play in the Iron Bowl. Thornton and the Tigers offered him a scholarship back in April 2023 and he has been a top target ever since.

He is the No. 442 overall player and No. 39 offensive tackle in the 247Sports composite ranking. The 6-foot-5, 290-pounder is also the No. 19 player from Alabama.

[autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and Auburn have focused on keeping the state’s best players home in the 2025 recruiting cycle, landing commitments from five of the state’s top 22 players.

He is one of the top linebackers in the 2025 cycle.

[autotag]Darrell Johnson[/autotag] is one of the best linebackers in the 2025 recruiting cycle and he will be taking his first-ever visit to Auburn this weekend. The Eastman, Georgia product spoke with Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports about the trip.

Johnson is the No. 65 overall player and No. 9 linebacker in the 247Sports composite ranking. He is also the No. 11 player from Georgia.

He won’t be the only elite recruit visiting the Plains this weekend, the Tigers will be hosting several top targets, including four-star cornerback [autotag]Devin Williams[/autotag] and three-star offensive tackle [autotag]Mal Waldrep[/autotag].

Auburn has the No. 5 overall class in the 2025 cycle but the Tigers are still looking for their first linebacker commit.

2025 OL Mal Waldrep ‘really appeciates’ his relationship with Auburn OL coach Jake Thornton

Auburn is firmly in the mix for the in-state offensive lineman.

Auburn is making a push for 2025 offensive lineman [autotag]Mal Waldrep[/autotag] and a major reason for their success is his relationship with offensive line coach [autotag]Jake Thornton[/autotag].

“He’s the man,” Waldrep told Christian Clemente of Auburn Undercover. “He’s probably recruiting me the hardest out of any coach. Them and Coach Austin from Clemson. Both of them are still hard on me. Really, really pushing me to get up there as much as I can and get on campus. Texting and calling almost every day. Really appreciate the relationship he’s built with me over these past few months.”

Waldrep is from Central-Phenix City, Alabama and has taken multiple trips to the Plains this season and is expected to be back for the Iron Bowl this weekend.

He is the No. 437 overall player and No. 38 offensive tackle in the 247Sports composite ranking. He is also the No. 20 player from Alabama.

Waldrep is one of several players from Central that Auburn is recruiting, including 2024 wide receiver Cam Coleman and 2025 wide receiver Dalyn Upshaw.

Gators among ‘top few schools’ for coveted 2025 IOL after offer

This 2025 offensive lineman recruit is already high on what the Swamp has to offer him.

Billy Napier’s staff offered a scholarship to three-star interior offensive lineman [autotag]Mal Waldrep[/autotag] out of Phenix City (Alabama) Central on Wednesday afternoon, much to the 2025 recruit’s delight. The 6-foot-5-inch, 290-pound trench warrior was so pleased with the gesture that he immediately placed the Gators near the top of his preferred destinations.

“I can’t wait to go see what Florida has to offer,” Waldrep told Gators Online. “Right now, they are definitely in my top few schools.”

“I know that playing for Florida means playing SEC ball. To me, that means a lot for a program to be in the SEC. I know they have a great coaching staff and great academics,” the high school junior added.

The Georgia Bulldogs, Clemson Tigers, Auburn Tigers, Penn State Nittany Lions, Kentucky Wildcats, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and Colorado Buffaloes headline the laundry list of other programs also in play for the coveted lineman.

Waldrep is ranked No. 401 overall and No. 29 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 401 and 21, respectively. On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has Auburn in front (33.9%) followed by Georgia (29.6%), Clemson (25.4%) and Georgia Tech (1.0%)

Auburn is ‘high on the list’ for in-state safety Red Morgan

He is one of several Auburn targets at Central-Phenix City.

Auburn hosted a talented group of local prospects Thursday in safety [autotag]Red Morgan[/autotag], five-star wide receiver [autotag]Cam Coleman[/autotag], offensive lineman [autotag]Mal Waldrep[/autotag] and wide receiver [autotag]Daylyn Upshaw[/autotag]. All four play for nearby Central-Phienix City and have Auburn offers.

The group was hosted by Auburn wide receivers coach [autotag]Marcus Davis[/autotag] and while he plays on the opposite side of the ball, Morgan enjoyed his time with Davis.

“It feels like home,” he told Auburn Live’s Jeffrey Lee of the campus. “It does. The coaches, how they treat us, they feel like father figures. Coach Davis, he’s not even my position coach, but the relationship we have … I mess with Coach Davis.”

It was Morgan’s second visit under the new staff and it made quite the impression on the 6-foot, 175-pounder.

“They’re high on the list,” he added.

Morgan is the No. 499 overall player and No. 49 safety in the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is also the No. 27 player in Alabama.

Morgan is planning to return to Auburn for an official visit sometime in June before announcing his commitment either during the summer or early in the fall. He already has official visits scheduled with Michigan State (June 2), Cincinnati (June 9) and Miami (June 30).

The Tigers have already landed four-star cornerbacks [autotag]A’Mon Lane[/autotag] and [autotag]Jayden Lewis[/autotag] in the 2024 recruiting cycle but are still looking for their first commit at safety.
