What have former Penn State offensive players been rated in recent Madden games?

Here is a look at the past three years’ worth of Madden NFL ratings for some former Penn State offensive stars.

As Madden ratings start to come out for the 2023 console game, a few notable former Penn State players have been rated, headlined by second-year Cowboys linebacker [autotag]Micah Parsons[/autotag], who received an 88-overall rating.

As we sit back and wait for more Madden 23 ratings to be released, let’s take a look back at the previous Madden ratings of the past few years from Penn State offensive players.

Madden NFL ratings for Penn State’s rookie class are here

What are the Madden NFL rating for rookies from Penn State in 2022?

The release of the Madden NFL franchise each and every year is greeted with both excitement and disdain it appears. Excitement over the new game with plenty of updates but disdain with the ratings at launch. This year more than ever have we seen Madden ratings in the news and for good reason.

This year’s rookie class out of Penn State is deeper than usual which means we have more traits and ratings to look at. The round a player is selected on usually plays a big part in his rating as well as his position.

At the top of the list will be Jahan Dotson after being the first selected, the rest of the order could be any which way. Enjoy where your Penn State Nittany Lions are in this year’s Madden game.

Micah Parsons wants to be on the cover of Madden NFL

Micah Parsons would love to be on the cover of Madden NFL in the future.

In the long history of the Madden NFL video game franchise, there has never been a former Penn State player to grace the cover of the annual release. But that could be about to change in the coming years if [autotag]Micah Parsons[/autotag] continues to perform.

Parsons is spending time this summer helping to promote this year’s release of the franchise, Madden NFL 23. The franchise is returning to its roots to pay tribute to the man behind the game, John Madden. Madden will be featured on the cover of this year’s game following his passing. It will be the first year since 2000 that Madden appears on the cover of the game by himself.

But it is safe to assume a player or players will return to the cover for next year’s installment of the game. Parsons says it would be a dream come true to appear on the cover of the game.

“I heard about this Madden Curse,” Parsons said in an interview with CBS Sports while promoting Madden NFL 23. “But man, a Madden cover would be a dream come true. Seeing some of the greatest players come on that cover, that would def be a dream come true.”

Is the Madden curse real? It is fun to dissect a bit and there are some valid examples that saw players coincidentally see their season cut short for one reason or another. The last players to appear on the cover of the game were Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes for Madden NFL 22. You have to go back to 2016’s release of Madden NFL 17 to find a time when the curse supposedly hit with Rob Gronkowski had injury problems throughout the season and watched the New England Patriots win a Super Bowl without his services.

EA Sports provides early look at Russell Wilson in ‘Madden’ video game

The Broncos are going to be fun again — in real life and in the video game!

We already know what Russell Wilson will look like in a Denver Broncos uniform thanks to photos from practice and the team’s media day.

Now, thanks to EA Sports, we also know what Wilson will look like in Madden, the NFL’s official video game.

The video game’s Twitter page released a teaser video over the weekend showing Wilson in Madden NFL 23 wearing the team’s white road uniform against the New England Patriots.

Wilson fires a pass in the clip but the video cuts short before the end of the play — we can only assume the throw resulted in a touchdown.

Madden also released a video showing off the game’s new “FieldSENSE” and the clip featured another Wilson pass (at the 0:26 mark). This clip also cuts off before the end of the play.

Broncos defensive backs Kareem Jackson and Pat Surtain are also shown breaking up a pass against the Kansas City Chiefs at the 0:53 mark. Unfortunately, Courtland Sutton is also shown failing to catch a pass against the Los Angeles Chargers and Justin Herbert is shown eluding a Denver defender.

Last year, outside linebacker Von Miller (93 overall) was the team’s highest-rated player in Madden NFL 22. Miller’s now with the Buffalo Bills, so Wilson (88 overall last year) will likely be among Denver’s best players in this year’s game.

Packers rookie didn’t appreciate this highlight from ‘Madden NFL 23’

Green Bay Packers rookie Tariq Carpenter was on the unfortunate end of a recent highlight video clip posted by @EAMaddenNFL.

Green Bay Packers rookie Tariq Carpenter was on the unfortunate end of a recent highlight video clip posted by the “Madden” football franchise’s official Twitter account.

In the short clip, Carpenter – a seventh-round pick of the Packers who may transition from safety to linebacker in Green Bay – was tasked with covering Los Angeles Rams receiver and Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp one-on-one on the outside. The video game developer was attempting to showcase new release moves and press counters by wide receivers in the upcoming game.

Unsurprisingly, virtual Kupp beat the press, cut inside and was wide open while Carpenter trailed far behind.

Having Kupp go against a rookie safety certainly helped create the video-game highlight.

Carpenter, who is wearing No. 24 in the clip, had some fun with the whole thing on Twitter after the video was released.

Fortunately for the Packers, Carpenter is unlikely to ever be covering Kupp one-on-one in a situation like this. And if he ever does, the result will likely look a lot like the virtual simulation.

Tale of the Tape: Leading Receivers – Michael Mayer vs. David Bell

Interesting matchup at this position for this game.

People watching Notre Dame and Purdue might want to ask if they’d rather have their top receiver gain more yards or score more touchdowns. The Irish’s Michael Mayer is a tight end, but he also finds the end zone a bunch. John Madden used to frequently say in his video game that tight ends were more of a threat in a red zone than regular receivers, so that theory holds water here. All Irish fans care about is Mayer not disappearing for long stretches as he has been prone to do in the first two games.

The Boilermakers’ David Bell is an actual receiver but has fewer receptions and far fewer touchdowns than Mayer despite accumulating more yardage. That has to make fans wonder if he’s better at helping his team get downfield than finishing off drives. Irish fans saw that a lot with Javon McKinley last year. While Bell may not be absolutely necessary to help the Boilermakers pull out a win in South Bend, it sure would help to unlock all facets of the game that are required of a receiver.
