Oklahoma Sooners added a highly-sought after offensive tackle via the transfer portal.

The Oklahoma Sooners have been active reloading the offensive side of the ball in the [autotag]transfer portal[/autotag]. On Wednesday, they added [autotag]John Mateer[/autotag], the top quarterback in the transfer portal, along with [autotag]Javonnie Gibson[/autotag] and [autotag]Keontez Lewis[/autotag], a pair of high-upside wide receivers.

Now, the Sooners have added their second offensive tackle in the last days, earning a commitment from Western Carolina transfer offensive tackle Derek Simmons.

Simmons has started 26 games in three seasons for the Catamounts and missed the 2022 season. He’s played just over 1,500 snaps in his collegiate career.

Against Arkansas in 2023, Simmons allowed just two pressures on 41 pass block snaps. In 2024, he allowed two pressures on 49 pass block snaps.

Simmons had a number of offers from Power Four programs this transfer portal cycle including South Carolina, Nebraska, Alabama, Michigan, Texas Tech, Florida State, and Kansas State.

With the addition of Simmons and fellow transfer portal addition [autotag]Luke Baklenko[/autotag], the Oklahoma Sooners have added a pair of veteran offensive tackles to join their offensive line competition this spring.

Michigan State football hosted Stanford offensive line transfer Luke Baklenko on an official visit to open portal season in hopes to add the prospect up front. Unfortunately, the Cardinal transfer is going elsewhere.

Baklenko has made the decision on Monday to commit to Oklahoma.

The Spartans landed the commitment of Luka Vincic, an Oregon State transfer, but still are in the market for two to three more offensive lineman.

MSU will move on to the next offensive lineman on their recruiting board.

Oklahoma Sooners earn commitment from transfer offensive lineman

The Oklahoma Sooners picked up a commitment from transfer offensive tackle Luke Baklenko.

The Oklahoma Sooners added to their offensive line ranks on Monday, earning a commitment from former Stanford Cardinal Luke Baklenko. He’s Oklahoma’s second addition in the [autotag]transfer portal[/autotag] this cycle.

According to Pro Football Focus in 2024, Baklenko played in 10 games, starting nine,. He played 1,016 snaps for Stanford over two seasons, including 646 this season, for an offense that finished 104th in the nation in scoring.

According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed 22 total pressures this season and four sacks.

He’s an experienced player who will add to the offensive tackle competition this offseason. The unit was damaged in 2024, losing Jacob Sexton, Jake Taylor, and Michael Tarquin to injuries at various points during the season.

Baklenko primarily played right tackle for Stanford in 2024 but also saw 34 snaps against Cal toward the end of the season. He’s an experienced player that will have a leg up on the right tackle job this offseason.

Michigan State football will reportedly host a highly-touted offensive lineman transfer on Tuesday

Michigan State football will reportedly host a highly-touted offensive lineman transfer on Tuesday.

Stanford offensive lineman transfer Luke Baklenko will reportedly visit Michigan State on Tuesday. Justin Thind of 247Sports’ reported the news late on Monday evening.

Baklenko is also reportedly set to visit Auburn and Oklahoma.

Baklenko started nearly 20 games for the Cardinal over the past two seasons and has two years of eligibility left. He will surely be someone many programs will be after due to the lack of top tier offensive lineman transfers.
