Lucas Ramirez, son of former MLB star Manny, signs with Tennessee

Manny Ramirez’s son Lucas Ramirez signed with Tennessee baseball over the weekend.

Tennessee has made an appearance in the College World Series in two of the last three years. The program is gearing up for another run with its most recent signing.

Lucas Ramirez, the son of former Cleveland Guardians and Boston Red Sox star Manny Ramirez, signed with the Volunteers on Saturday, according to Talkin’ Baseball. He originally committed to the team in January.

Ramirez is an outfielder and first baseman who hit .304 with two home runs and 17 RBI as a junior, according to MaxPreps. He is graded by Perfect Game at 9.5, meaning the site views him as a potential pick in the first 10 rounds of the draft or a high-level college prospect.

The senior posted a picture in a Tennessee uniform to his Instagram account on Saturday:

Ramirez swings from the left side of the plate and has shown power despite only two home runs as a junior. Take a look at his swing in this walk-off home run in the 2023 World Wood Bat Association (WWBA) semifinals in July:

Tennessee will be looking for more of that. The Vols’ College World Series appearances in 2021 and 2023 sandwiched the 2022 season in which they won they were champions of the SEC regular season and SEC Tournament for the first time since 1995, according to the program website, in a dominant season that ended unexpectedly soon in the Knoxville Super Regional.

Manny Ramirez’s son, Lucas Ramirez, hits walk-off home run

Lucas Ramirez, committed to Tennessee baseball, hit a walk-off home run and showed energy similar to his dad Manny.

From the left side of the plate, Lucas Ramirez’s batting stance isn’t anything like his father’s, but the excitement and energy evoke memories of the retired superstar. Ramirez blasted a walk-off home run in the 2023 World Wood Bat Association (WWBA) semifinals, sending his team to the championship game.

With that hit (and bat flip) and the ensuing tweets of excitement, the son of Manny Ramirez became known to a broader audience than before. Not that he needs it — Ramirez, in the class of 2024, is rated highly on Perfect Game and already committed to Tennessee, who has appeared in two of the last three College World Series.

Here’s another angle of the bomb:

We’ve entered another generation of the sons of yesterday’s stars. Whether it’s players like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bobby Witt Jr., who are already in the bigs, or prospects like Druw Jones and Jack Leiter, or guys like Lucas Ramirez in high school, the future is bright with the flames of the past.
