Angela Hill vs. Luana Pinheiro prediction, pick, start time, odds for UFC Fight Night 241

Angela Hill and Luana Pinheiro kick off the UFC Fight Night 241 main card in Las Vegas. Who has the edge?

[autotag]Angela Hill[/autotag] and [autotag]Luana Pinheiro[/autotag] meet Saturday in the opening main card bout of UFC Fight Night 241 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.

Angela Hill vs. Luana Pinheiro UFC Fight Night 241 preview

Hill (16-3 MMA, 11-13 UFC) and Pinheiro (11-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) clash in this closely-matched strawweight bout. … Hill has nearly double fights in the UFC than Pinheiro does in her entire pro career. “Overkill” has traded wins and losses over her last four outings, with each bout going the distance. … Pinheiro was stopped for the first time in her UFC career in her last bout against Amanda Ribas. Prior to her first loss in the promotion, she won three straight after being signed from Dana White’s Contender Series.

Angela Hill vs. Luana Pinheiro expert pick, prediction

Despite their continual quest to counter the surefire card formats of Joe Silva, I have to credit the current matchmakers for finally giving us a main card full of lighter weight fighters.

This week kicks off at women’s strawweight, where Hill will attempt to take Pinheiro’s top 10 spot.

I’m admittedly surprised at Pinheiro’s ranking considering that two of her three octagon wins come with serious controversy, but the Brazilian trains at a high-level MMA camp and comes with solid judo credentials in tow.

Although Hill has traditionally struggled with grapplers in the past, “The Ultimate Fighter” veteran has made marked improvements during the latest stretch of her career.

Not only has Hill’s grappling defense improved, but the 39-year-old American is showing an ability to phase shift and connect her skills.

I wouldn’t be surprised to be on the wrong end of another atrocious split decision at strawweight, but I’ll pick Hill to pull away with her superior volume to secure scorecards down the stretch.

Angela Hill vs. Luana Pinheiro odds

The odds makers and the public are favoring the more proven product, listing Hill (-144) and Pinheiro (+118) via FanDuel. Hill has been an underdog in her last seven fights, producing a record of 3-4 over that stretch. Pinheiro’s only listing as an underdog in the UFC came in her last fight, which she lost.

Angela Hill vs. Luana Pinheiro start time, how to watch

As the main card opener, Hill and Pinheiro are expected to make their walk to the octagon around 7:05 p.m. ET (4:05 p.m. PT). The fight streams live on ESPN+.

Luana Pinheiro hopes to show evolution from Amanda Ribas loss vs. Angela Hill at UFC Fight Night 241

Luana Pinheiro is comfortable with the setbacks in of MMA journey, which sees its next stop vs. Angela Hill at UFC Fight Night 241.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Luana Pinheiro[/autotag] is comfortable with the concept of setbacks as she makes her MMA journey, which sees its next stop Saturday vs. Angela Hill at UFC Fight Night 241.

After starting her octagon tenure with three straight wins, Pinheiro (11-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) fell short in her biggest opportunity so far when she suffered a third-round TKO defeat to Amanda Ribas at UFC Fight Night 232 in November. Instead of beating herself up about it, though, Pinheiro (16-13 MMA, 11-13 UFC) took it as a moment of growth.

“I think I made some mistakes that ended up costing me a lot, but at the end of the day wasn’t what we expected,” Pinheiro told MMA Junkie and other reporters through an interpreter at Wednesday’s media day. “I was happy with my evolution in some things, it was just towards the end that I ended up losing the fight. It was a great learning opportunity and there was a lot of stuff to take into the next fight.”

Following the tough loss, Pinheiro gets another significant challenge. Hill, who she meets in a strawweight bout on the main card at the UFC Apex (ESPN+), has the second-most fights in women’s UFC history.

Pinheiro, 31, has youth on her side against Hill, 39. However, she knew this matchup would come eventually given Hill’s level of activity, so the Brazilian is ready for it.

“I think Angela Hill’s a very experienced fighter,” Pinheiro said. “She’s a very tough fighter who has been around for some time. She’s faced everybody for so many years. There comes a point where you run out of opponents to actually face. When I looked at this I just wanted to make sure it was a good fight for me. That’s what I care about.”

UFC strawweight contenders Angela Hill, Luana Pinheiro collide in May

UFC strawweight contenders Angela Hill and Luana Pinheiro will collide May 18, multiple sources say.

UFC strawweight contenders [autotag]Angela Hill[/autotag] and [autotag]Luana Pinheiro[/autotag] will face off May 18.

The card will be a UFC Fight Night event that does not currently have a known location or venue.

Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently informed MMA Junkie of the booking but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement.

Hill (16-13 MMA, 11-13 UFC) has won three of her most recent four outings. After back-to-back wins over Loopy Godinez and Emily Ducote, Hill lost a unanimous decision to Mackenzie Dern in May. However, Hill came back strong with a victory over Denise Gomes in November.

Pinheiro (11-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) aims to bounce back from her first promotional defeat, which came against Amanda Ribas by TKO in November. Prior to that, Pinheiro won consecutive fights against Randa Markos, Sam Hughes, and Michelle Waterson-Gomez to kick off her UFC tenure.

With the addition, the UFC Fight Night lineup for May 18 includes:

  • Angela Hill vs. Luana Pinheiro
  • Hailey Cowan vs. Tamires Vidal
  • Vanessa Demopoulos vs. Emily Ducote

Luana Pinheiro never thought Amanda Ribas fight would happen due to history, but is excited about it

Luana Pinheiro would have rather crossed paths with fellow Brazilian Amanda Ribas at the top.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Luana Pinheiro[/autotag] would have rather crossed paths with fellow Brazilian [autotag]Amanda Ribas[/autotag] at the top.

Pinheiro (11-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) meets former housemate Ribas (11-4 MMA, 6-3 UFC) on Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 232 main card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The event streams on ESPN+.

Both coming from a judo background, Pinheiro and Ribas lived together in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. So, Pinheiro wasn’t expecting to ever have to fight Ribas – unless it was for the UFC strawweight title.

“I obviously would not ever choose this fight to happen except for a belt,” Pinheiro told MMA Junkie and other reporters through an interpreter at Wednesday’s UFC Fight Night 232 media day. “I wish this fight was for a belt, but yeah, it is weird the fact that we lived together, we’re friends, and we hung out together. We never back in the day when we used to live in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, we never thought this could happen – especially now.”

Stylistically, Pinheiro thinks her fight with Ribas is bound to deliver. Pinheiro is currently riding a nine-fight winning streak and is unbeaten in the octagon.

“It’s going to be a good fight because she presses forward, she goes at it, she really looks for a fight and I think you’re really going to see an actual MMA fight,” Pinheiro said. “It’s also an opportunity for us as you said to showcase everything we trained for, everything that we are, and I think I’m very excited about the fight and people are going to see it.”
