What Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin said about LSU

What Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin had to say about the LSU Tigers on Monday.

Much like Ed Orgeron, who met with the media on Monday, Bryan Harsin of Auburn held his media session just an hour later. He tackled a bevy of topics including the quarterback situation for Auburn. Harsin was noncommital as to who would start against LSU. Obviously, it would be an interesting topic if TJ Finley got the start against his old team.

When asked about Finley, Orgeron discussed him quite a bit. He discussed when Finley came into his office to let the coach know that he was leaving. Oregon mentioned how difficult a decision it was for the quarterback. On Saturday he led Auburn to the win with a 98-yard drive late in the game.

As far as Harsin, he discussed the LSU Tigers during his media availability.

LSU is very good. I got a chance to watch them a little bit even prior to this game because they’re on TV and so you see LSU playing. Coach Orgeron has done a very good job, very successful with that program, obviously has won a national championship.

One of the players that Harsin spoke about was the quarterback Max Johnson. He currently leads the SEC in touchdown passes along with Alabama’s Bryce Young. Both have thrown 15 touchdowns in four games. Johnson is also the FBS leader in consecutive games with 3+ touchdowns with six, each one of his starts dating back to the Florida game last year.

“Offensively, I think the quarterback is playing well,” Harsin said. “Max Johnson is a very good player. You can see that he’s getting better and has done some very good things. They’ve got some wide receivers — they all are very good and very talented, and they play hard.”

Harsin also was very complimentary of the offensive line, it felt a lot like coach speak. We hear that often when coaches discuss opposing teams not looking to give any bulletin board material.

Their offensive line is very good, so all around on the offensive side you see a lot of very good players. You see a system that these guys are doing a very good job in. We have to be ready for that on the defensive side.

Next, what Harsin said about the LSU defense

What does ESPN’s FPI thinks about the rest of LSU’s season?

Here is what ESPN’s FPI says about the rest of LSU’s season.

The LSU Tigers have their work cut out for them during the final eight games of the season.

Seven of the eight teams the Tigers will face are currently inside the top 25 if you include Kentucky, who is sitting at No. 23 in the AFCA Coaches Poll as of September 26th. After seeking out a win over Mississippi State on the road, LSU seems primed and ready to take on the challenge.

With Auburn coming to town this weekend, the Tigers should be hungry to take advantage of their next three matchups (Auburn, at Kentucky, Florida). LSU currently owns the No. 3 toughest remaining schedule in FBS.

Here is what ESPN’s FPI says about the rest of LSU’s season.

Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin get’s first taste of SEC play in Death Valley

LSU welcomes new Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin to SEC play on Saturday in Death Valley.

This past offseason the Auburn Tigers decided to move on from Gus Mahlzan, the head coach that took them to a national championship appearance in 2013. Outside of that season, he didn’t do much else. They decided to bring in Bryan Harsin from Boise State to run the program.

After finishing out their nonconference schedule on Saturday, he will get his first taste of SEC action as a head coach. Just so happens to be in Death Valley for a Saturday night showdown. Auburn handed the LSU Tigers their worst loss of the series last year, the Bayou Bengals are looking for redemption.

Auburn started off the year with two easy wins against Akron and Alabama State, where they outscored the opposition 122-10. The last two games have not been so easy for the Tigers. They are 1-1 and needed a 98-yard drive late against Georgia State to get the victory. Starting quarterback Bo Nix was benched in the last game in favor of former LSU QB TJ Finley. That leaves a huge question revolving around which passer will take the field against LSU on Saturday.

The 34-24 victory doesn’t tell the whole story as to just how bad Auburn was in that game. Auburn gave up 267 yards on the ground and 20 total first downs to an FCS opponent. Against the LSU Tigers, Auburn’s defense will be tested.

While the LSU team doesn’t show the ability to run the football as they have in years past, they can challenge teams throwing the football. Max Johnson has thrown 3+ touchdowns in each of his six career starts. He and Kayshon Boutte will be major factors when these two teams meet on Saturday night.

Game details revealed for LSU’s matchup with Auburn

LSU vs Auburn game time and network announced on Monday.

The LSU Tigers are getting ready for a throwdown in Starkville, Mississippi, this Saturday. Next week they will take on the Auburn Tigers in Death Valley and it will be a night game at Tiger Stadium. They announced the time and TV network for the game.

Both teams are currently 2-1 and could be 3-1 if both win this week before the primetime matchup. The football team’s official Twitter account released the details on Monday morning.

New Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin will get his first taste of Death Valley on Saturday night. The Tigers hope for a much better showing than what happened at Auburn last season. They fell in that game 48-11 in the worst loss of the series. Could LSU get retribution for two embarrassing losses from last year in back-to-back weeks?

Why LSU Will Win

This is one of the few teams that can hang with Auburn on the boards.

The LSU three point defense is just okay, and the outside shooting isn’t necessarily there to get into a shootout if both teams start bombing away, but this is the SEC’s best rebounding team – Auburn isn’t getting the second-chance points it’s used to.

LSU might not be great from three, but the offense can more than keep up. There’s no problems making this a track meet – again, it’s a team built to deal with AU.

Why Auburn Will Win

Auburn is past the power outage of a few weeks ago.

At home, the offense is able to take things to a whole other level, and it starts with going on runs from three. LSU might be able to score in a variety of way to stay around and make this a fight, but it isn’t going to come up with the big shots from the outside that Auburn can and will.

No, Auburn won’t be able to shut down the LSU offense, but its defense will be stronger when it absolutely has to be, and it’ll force a few more steals and takeaways to do a better job of holding serve.

What’s Going To Happen

It’s the only time these two play in the regular season, and it should be a firefight.

Be shocked if this isn’t wildly entertaining. Both teams will push this well into the 80s, and both will battle hard in what should be a physical game on the boards. However, at home, Auburn’s ability from three and its defense will be just enough to get by.
