Could Leonard Fournette be joining other former LSU stars with Bengals?

Could the Bengals be adding yet another former LSU star to their offense?

According to reports, former LSU star running back Leonard Fournette is working out with the Cincinnati Bengals. Fournette is yet to play in 2024, but the Bengals running back depth has taken a hit in recent weeks and Cincinnati is looking to beef up its backfield.

Some LSU fans already have a certain affinity for the Bengals thanks to Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase. The addition of Fournette would give the Bengals offense another LSU legend.

At 4-6, the Bengals are out of the NFC North race but a wild card birth remains a possibility, especially with Burrow playing at an MVP level.

In seven NFL seasons, Fournette has 1,144 attempts for 4,518 yards. He has two 1,000-yard seasons and won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020.

Fournette wouldn’t be the only back Cincy added in recent days after the Bengals traded for the Bears’ Khalil Herbert last week.

Alabama OC Nick Sheridan comments on coming down to field during LSU win

Alabama offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan joined the Alabama sideline during the fourth quarter against LSU.

During Saturday night’s game against the LSU Tigers, one of the things you might not have noticed happened was that Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan, as well as the rest of the coaching staff, actually left the press box at Tiger Stadium in the fourth quarter to join the remainder of the team on the field.

Yes, this is certainly not something that you see often during the middle of a college football game, but nevertheless, Sheridan and the rest of the Crimson Tide’s staff in the booth did this when the game was well over the fourth.

Sheridan also commented on this during his Monday press conference as well, saying:

“The game was essentially over, and the only thing that was left was us taking a knee when we got the ball back,” Sheridan said. “Just trying to get down to the people that you care about, and enjoy those brief moments that you have in those types of environments. I was just happy for the players, their families, and everybody that puts so much hard work into each week. To be able to get down there at the end, not just myself, but the other guys that are up in the box, it was a special moment, and I was glad I was able to do it.”

Saturday night was easily one of Alabama’s top offensive performances of the 2024 season so far, defeating the LSU Tigers by a final score of 42-13. This included a commanding 35-6 lead after a Jalen Milroe 72-yard run for a touchdown to begin the fourth quarter, while Sheridan and the staff later coming down to the field later in the frame.

A video of that in the fourth quarter can be seen below:

Florida football OL talks first start, versatility and the team’s culture

Gators OL Bryce Lovett talked about his ability to play any position on the offensive line during Monday’s press conference.

Redshirt freshman offensive lineman Bryce Lovett got his first career start for Florida football last week against the Texas Longhorns, and his versatility is what caught the Gators’ eye.

“It felt good to be able to step up when one of my brothers went down and going out there, and be able to play hard and play with my teammates,” Lovett said on Monday. “Just felt good overall. Doesn’t matter how the game went.”

Lovett is in his second season with the Gators and although he’s season game action this year, he hasn’t officially started. But with the injury to offensive guard Damieon George Jr., Lovett got his opportunity.

According to 247Sports, Lovett was listed as a top-50 offensive lineman in the Class of 2023 and chose Florida over programs like Arkansas and Kentucky.

The native from Rockledge emphasized the importance of how the team has felt like a close family.

“One of the main things I liked when I was a recruit was the family,” Lovett said. “It’s very family oriented, like it’s like one big family, and he’s (Billy Napier) just continuing to build that and to be closer and closer, and we work together. I mean, we work really hard.”

Lovett continued, “I think that kind of ties into the family and everybody being so close. It’s like, I don’t want to say it’s like something I’ve never seen before, but I’ve never been on a team where it’s been this tight.”

Lovett talked about his versatility on the offensive line. He mentioned that it creates more opportunities for playing time because of the ability to play at multiple positions.

“Well, yeah, I feel like it’s a lot more opportunity, because I have five different options to be honest with you,” Lovett said. “If that makes sense, I play guard, I play tackle, I can play center, and so, if anybody goes down, or if anybody needs a break, I’m willing to go in.”

Lovett went on saying, “If he (Napier) puts me in, I’m ready to go in. So I like staying on standby, not staying on standby, but always being prepared and ready to play any position.”

Lovett will be ready on Saturday against the LSU Tigers if his number is called again.

Takeaways from Billy Napier’s Monday presser ahead of LSU matchup

Billy Napier spoke with the media on Monday as the Gators prepare to host the LSU Tigers on Saturday.

This season has been a bumpy rollercoaster for Florida football and with just three games left in their regular season, the Gators are crawling towards that last game.

Coming off a blowout loss that they’d like to forget about against the Texas Longhorns last Saturday, Florida has a tough task this week as they host the LSU Tigers.

Like the Gators, LSU was blown out last week. The Tigers faced the Alabama Crimson Tide and from the get-go, LSU had no answer for Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe. So expect their defense to tighten up on Saturday against Florida.

There’s still uncertainty at the quarterback position for the Gators, but if DJ Lagway can’t be ready to play on Saturday, it’ll be a long afternoon for Florida.

Head coach Billy Napier spoke to the media on Monday and here are the takeaways from the press conference.

Napier talks about LSU

“I do think LSU, as usual, has a good football team. I think they’re talented. Obviously, they’ve had their ups and downs throughout the season. Coach (Brian) Kelly runs a good program and overhauled the defensive staff, and certainly a veteran quarterback, although a first-time starter has significant experience, has been in the program, been in the system with (Garrett) Nussmeier, really unique kick returner and punt returner, that can be a challenge. And overall, the personnel that you would expect from an LSU team.”

Napier on if this is the most amount of injuries he’s dealt with

“I think we’re just a little more aware of it, because we did an injury report Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 90 minutes before the game, you know. But look, your depth is always going to be challenged, and when you play initially, with our non-conference schedule, we have played a very competitive schedule, so I think we’re more equipped, probably that we have been playing with threes in some spots.

“So that’s ultimately what I would say. Typically, your twos are going to play every position throughout the year.”

The importance of securing players at QB

“Yeah, I know it’s a position we’re going to add players for sure. Process of doing that, and that can be a challenge when you have a really talented young player, right? So I think it’s important. I mean, it’s a big piece of the puzzle. We’ve been grinding away on it for a long time.”

On how essential recruiting is in November

“Yeah, I think what you’re describing, there is definitely a piece of the puzzle here, down the stretch. I think the combination of early signing period and the portal window paired with November football and how competitive and important these games are, that is one of the more challenging things about college football right now, and I think every coach has expressed that publicly.

“So we have extensive meaning. You know, our personnel department is working around the clock. We may have windows of time where we evaluate players every week, just this, just this week, you know. I’ll be up here Wednesday night. I’ll be up here early Friday morning. Those are my two blocks of time each week. So those guys are grinding around the clock.

“And then obviously the coaches as well. And then that gets fun to me. So yeah, two times a week we have blocks for evaluating players and what you’re describing, it becomes even more. You know, there’s just more, whatever you want to call it, rumors or anticipation. I think some of that starts to ramp up in November.”

Lagway’s progress so far

“Well, the good thing is, we worked him (Lagway) out this morning, and we felt good about what we saw, you know. Soft tissue’s a very subjective injury. But we do anticipate him practicing today.”

Napier expected vote of confidence from Scott Stricklin

“You know, in season, man, I’m grinding. I’m trying to get the most out of our players. You know, what I would say about it is, I think that it’s a reflection of our players, and we don’t get it done, we don’t show signs of improvement. And look, let me say this, I am absolutely not satisfied with how we played.

“Now, we’ve done some good things, but I mean, it’s nowhere close to what it’s got to be consistently for us to be a contender, and that’s ultimately what I’m spending my time on. But any belief or hope or confidence in what we can become is due to the players in the way they perform the last five or six weeks, so we need to continue to improve.”

Missed tackles, miscommunication vs Texas

“Yeah, all of those were a little bit of some communication errors, some missed assignments. And then I think just in general, on the perimeter, I think we didn’t tackle, well, we missed tackles inside back, or we missed tackles in the secondary. I thought we played with the wrong leverage communications. So yeah, just in general, just basic fundamentals, tackling, leveraging coverage, and obviously some of those guys are, they’re out there.”

Talks about Nussmeier

“First of all, his (Nussmeier) dad is an incredible football coach, one of the best coaches I’ve ever been around. And just a great human being, great family. I can remember when he was, you know, running around the Alabama facility. So, yeah, great high school player.

“I can remember evaluating him coming out. Just incredibly productive. Just a scrappy coach’s son that has a great feel for the game. So waiting his turn is respectable, in my opinion, and then now, obviously, he’s leading their team and has done a good job in that extent.”

Here’s what SP+ predicts for the Florida-LSU matchup in Week 12

Here is what ESPN’s SP+ predictions foresees this weekend inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

The Florida Gators return to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium this weekend to host the LSU Tigers for a good old-fashioned Southeastern Conference rivalry game as the end of the regular season quickly nears.

The Orange and Blue are just 4-5 this fall with an even weaker 2-4 mark against fellow league schools while the Purple and Gold are 6-3 overall (3-2 in SEC play) while holding onto the No. 22 spot in the US LBM Coaches Poll. However, LSU has been in a bit of a decline in recent weeks, dropping a pair to the Texas A&M Aggies and Alabama Crimson Tide, respectively.

ESPN’s Bill Connelly released his SP+ predictions for college football’s Week 12 slate, which favors the Tigers by 6.1 points over the Gators while giving LSU a 65% chance of winning and a projected final score of 33-27. Compare that with the initial spread for the game (LSU, -4.5 points) for a difference of 1.6 between the two.

Billy Napier and Co. sit at No. 39 out of 134 FBS schools (6.9 overall rating) in the SP+ rankings coming into Saturday’s home game, while the visiting squad is 15th in the nation (15.5).

About SP+ predictions

“SP+ is intended to be predictive and forward-facing,” according to ESPN. “It is not a résumé ranking that gives credit for big wins or particularly brave scheduling — no good predictive system is.

“It is simply a measure of the most sustainable and predictable aspects of football. If you’re lucky or unimpressive in a win, your rating will probably fall. If you’re strong and unlucky in a loss, it will probably rise.”

Should LSU be worried about five-star Jahkeem Stewart going out of state?

Jahkeem Stewart is one of the best prospects in the state of Louisiana. Should LSU worry about him heading elsewhere?

LSU rarely lets elite talent leave Louisiana. When there’s a five-star in the boot, more often than not, they end up at LSU.

Last year, LSU signed [autotag]Dominick McKinley[/autotag] and [autotag]Trey’Dez Green[/autotag]. Both five stars and the two best players the state had to offer.

LSU is hoping to do the same in 2025. The Tigers already have two of Louisiana’s top three players committed, but DL [autotag]Jahkeem Stewart[/autotag] remains on the board.

Stewart was previously the top-ranked overall prospect in the class of 2026 before reclassifying to 2025. Still, Stewart is a “can’t miss” prospect. If you saw how LSU looked up front in the loss to Alabama, you saw why LSU needs a guy like Stewart.

The transfer portal is nice, but the most effective way to build an elite defensive line is to get blue-chip players in at the high school level and develop those guys. LSU hasn’t done that in recent years.

Even the Tigers’ best pass rusher now, Bradyn Swinson, is a transfer. You won’t find five Swinson’s in the portal, which makes it critical to land talent right out of high school.

Stewart is far from an LSU lock. The On3 Prediction Machine still has LSU in front of Oregon, Ohio State, and USC. But if I was taking LSU or the field, I’d take the field.

Stewart was on campus for the Alabama game. Prior to the visit, On3 wrote LSU “had some ground to make up.”

The momentum doesn’t seem to be in LSU’s favor with this one, but at the end of the day, Stewart is a top prospect out of New Orleans and that always gives LSU a chance.

But I don’t think LSU fans should feel great about this one right now.

Brian Kelly’s staff has recruited Louisiana in his time at LSU so missing out on Stewart shouldn’t defined Kelly’s efforts in Louisiana, but it would reflect poorly on LSU if it can’t close out on an elite prospect at a position of need.

LSU falls seven spots in AP Poll after loss to Alabama

LSU football tumbles in AP Poll following Alabama loss

The AP Poll voters weren’t too keen on LSU after the Tigers’ 42-13 home-field loss to Alabama.

The Tigers fell seven spots to No. 21, receiving 265 points. LSU sits just in front of Louisville and right behind Kansas State.

Now at 6-3, the loss has LSU out of the national conversation. This isn’t a team ready to compete for the playoff and the polls reflect that. The College Football Playoff committee will likely have a similar take when their poll drops on Tuesday.

LSU is one of nine SEC teams to be ranked.

Oregon remains sitting atop the poll, followed by Ohio State, Texas, Penn State, and Indiana.

Georgia and Miami both fell out of the top 10 after taking upset losses.

LSU finished No. 12 in the AP Poll last year, but it may be tough to beat that in 2024. The top of the sport is crowded with a handful of teams with two losses or less.

Connor Stallions now coaching Bryce Underwood at Belleville

Connor Stallions joined the staff at Belleville High and is now coaching Bryce Underwood

As Michigan makes a push to flip Bryce Underwood from LSU, former Michigan assistant Connor Stallions joined Underwood’s high school staff at Bellville.

Belleville High School confirmed the news to CBS Detroit.

Stallions rose to prominence when Michigan’s sign-stealing scandal came to light in 2023. This is his second high school stop of the season after serving as DC and interim head coach at Detroit Mumford High School.

Belleville is making another deep playoff run. Underwood led the program to back-to-back state titles in 2021 and 2022 but fell just short last year. Underwood is hoping to go out on top with a third ring this year.

Underwood is coming off a visit to LSU over the weekend. Despite the noise about a potential flip, Underwood remains locked in with LSU for now.

The Tigers class ranks top five nationally with Underwood as the headliner. Underwood is the top player in the class with some calling him a generational QB. He’s the type of prospect LSU can’t afford to lose, especially this close to signing day.

Its unclear if Stallions will have any impact on Underwood’s recruitment, but Stallions is a known Michigan superfan so its no secret where Stallions’ loyalty lies.

LSU will have to keep its foot on the gas until Underwood signs next month.

ESPN’s FPI ranks Alabama as nation’s top team after impressive LSU win

Alabama sits atop the nation according to ESPN’s FPI.

As a result of the Alabama Crimson Tide’s blowout 42-13 road victory over the LSU Tigers on Saturday night in Baton Rouge, the program has already seen big movement Sunday in both the AP and Coaches Polls.

Rising in both, the same can also be said for ESPN’s Football Power Index (FPI) as well, as the Crimson Tide are now considered the nation’s top team according to the stat.

After their impressive road win at LSU, Alabama rose two spots in the latest update of ESPN’s FPI, jumping to No. 1 overall from their previous No. 3 ranking. The Crimson Tide had previously sat at No. 3 for a few weeks, and jumped both the Texas Longhorns and Ohio State Buckeyes for No. 1.

Now sitting at 7-2 overall, ESPN FPI also now gives Alabama a 55% chance to win out across the remainder of their regular season schedule. Alabama also is given a 31% chance to win the SEC, as well as 75.6% to make the College Football Playoff, 25.1% to make the national championship game, and 15.5% to win it all exiting Week 11.

As a result of their loss to Alabama, LSU also dropped four spots to No. 16.

LSU falls in US LBM Coaches Poll after blowout loss to Alabama

See where LSU landed in the US LBM coaches poll after its loss to Alabama

LSU was blown out by Alabama on its home field Saturday night with the final score being 42-13.

The Tigers’ performance is reflected in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll as LSU fell all the way to No. 22. LSU is just behind No. 21 Missouri and just ahead of No. 23 South Carolina.

The poll includes nine SEC teams. Alabama rose to No. 9 after the win.

LSU’s loss all but crushed its playoff and conference title hopes. The Tigers entered at 6-2 eyeing a November push, but those dreams are over now. With three games remaining, LSU will look for a 9-3 regular season for a third straight year.

The Tigers were underdogs on Saturday night, but nobody expected a margin that big. For LSU head coach Brian Kelly, it was his first time losing a home night game with the program.

Next up for LSU is a road trip to Florida. LSU should be the favorite in that one, but the Tigers will get the Gators best shot as Billy Napier looks to build late season momentum.
