LSU soccer’s Taylor Dobles to represent Puerto Rico at 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games

The games will be played from June 29 to July 7.

SAN SALVADOR, EL SALVADOR – LSU Soccer forward Taylor Dobles has been named to the Puerto Rican Women’s National Team for the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador.

Dobles will take the international stage and represent Puerto Rico for the second time this year after making her debut with the national team in April for a friendly match between Puerto Rico and Xolos Femenil of Mexico’s Liga MX Femenil.

She earned her first start with the team in the friendly and recorded the lone goal for El Huracán Azul to lead her team to a 1-0 victory. The goal marked her first on the international stage.

Dobles and Team Puerto Rico will take on Mexico, Jamaica and El Salvador in this summer’s Central American and Caribbean Games at Las Delicias Stadium.

The games will be played from June 29 to July 7, which features women’s teams from Costa Rica, Guatemala, Haiti and Venezuela in Group A, while El Salvador, Mexico, Jamaica and Puerto Rico make up Group B.

Preliminary play is set to begin on Thursday, June 29, as Puerto Rico takes on Mexico at 8 p.m. CT. The tournament continues with competitions against Jamaica on July 1 at 8 p.m. CT and El Salvador on July 3 at 11 p.m. CT.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, which are set for July 5 while finals will take place on July 7. For more information on Puerto Rican soccer, visit the official Puerto Rican Soccer Federation page.

Trey Thompson named second assistant coach for LSU soccer

Thompson previously worked with the program in a volunteer capacity.

BATON ROUGE – LSU Soccer and head coach Sian Hudson named Trey Thompson as the program’s second assistant coach for the upcoming 2023 season.

“Trey has been a valuable addition to our staff and we are very excited that he will now be in a full-time capacity with us,” said Hudson. “He has a great eye for the game and has worked diligently with our attacking unit this past year and we have reaped the rewards of his work with increased goal production. Trey has a great relationship with the girls and staff and I very much look forward to seeing his influence continue to grow next season.”

A native of Mesa, Arizona, Thompson joined the program in 2022 and served as the volunteer coach for the Tigers in their NCAA Championship second round appearance last year.

“I am filled with gratitude for this opportunity,” said Thompson. “I am excited and honored to be working with a program of this magnitude and with coaches that share a common vision. This staff is committed to developing student athletes and I’m ready to continue to grow this program.”

Thompson provides familiarity and knowledge of the sport as he has experience in both roles of player and coach.

In his playing career, Thompson was a two-time All-American striker at Kansas Wesleyan University, where he played from 2005-2007. He graduated in 2007 with his bachelor of arts degree in business communications and continued on to pursue his soccer career.

Thompson was invited to the USL combine following his collegiate career and signed with the Lancaster Rattlers in 2007, a professional team now known as FC Santa Clarita.

He continued his playing career with the Southern California Seahorses, a club based in La Mirada, California, for two years from 2008-2009.

The Arizona native began his professional coaching career in 2009 in his home state with the Sereno Soccer Club. As the head coach, Thompson oversaw 12 teams and trained players like Ilijah Paul, who was the No. 7 pick in the Major League Soccer (MLS) Superdraft.

He has coached various other professional players including U.S. Men’s National Team Member Richie Ledezma and Mexico Women’s National Team Member Estheffanny Barreras.

Thompson continued to work for the Sereno Soccer Club as it transitioned to Real Salt Lake/Utah Royals in Arizona from 2017-2021 prior to joining the Tigers in 2022.

During his time with Real Salt Lake – AZ, he won a National Championships with the U17 girls’ team in 2021 and was a Regional finalist with the U19 boys’ team in 2019.

Thompson was named the Arizona Competitive Coach Of The Year in 2019 for his efforts.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities with Sereno/Real Salt Lake Arizona, Thompson also served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Scottsdale Community College from 2013-2017 and specialized in goalkeeper training.

Now, Thompson will transition into a full-time assistant coach position for LSU and continue to use his coaching experience to develop our current players and recruit future tigers for the program.

LSU soccer adds Oklahoma transfer Hali Hartman

Hartman started every game as a freshman with the Sooners in 2022.

BATON ROUGE – The LSU Soccer program and head coach Sian Hudson sign Oklahoma transfer Hali Hartman to join the Tigers for the upcoming 2023 season.

“We are thrilled to be adding a player of Hali’s caliber to our squad. She is an outstanding defender with a passion to get forward and contribute on the attacking side of the ball,” said head coach Sian Hudson. “Hali contributed huge minutes as a freshman, gaining valuable experience at the Power 5 level. Her defensive tenacity, athleticism and big personality on the field are going to be huge additions to our backline.”

“We are so excited to be welcoming Hali back to her birthplace in Baton Rouge and giving her family in the area the chance to come out and cheer on the Tigers with even more passion and pride.”

A native of Grand Prairie, Texas, Hartman began her collegiate soccer career at Oklahoma in 2022, where she started in every game for the Sooners, tallied her first collegiate goal and led the team in total minutes played. She finished the season as one of the Top 30 freshmen in the country per Top Drawer Soccer and earned All-Big 12 All Freshman Team honors.

The Texas native gained a wealth of experience in her first year at Oklahoma and is ready to make an immediate impact for the Tigers in the SEC, a conference who fielded the second most teams in last year’s NCAA Tournament.

“I chose LSU because I felt that this was the right choice to continue my journey. They offer both the academic and athletic quality that would help me achieve some of my future goals. The facilities and amenities are world class and the resources available for the athletes in all programs are exceptional,” said Hartman.

“The soccer coaching staff is knowledgeable and plays the brand of soccer I could thrive in and the current players presented a vibe that was comforting and relatable. Playing in the SEC is one of my many dreams. Being born in Baton Rouge, I have plenty of family support here, making LSU a win for me at every level.”

Prior to her collegiate career, Hartman played at South Grand Prairie High School and was a four-star recruit via Top Drawer Soccer. She ranked as the No. 91 player in the IMG Academy 150, the No. 10 recruit in the Texas Region and as the No. 23 defender in the country via Top Drawer Soccer.

The Texas native scored 16 goals as a junior in high school and was named the 2020-21 South Grand Prairie Player of the Year and District Defensive MVP.

Hartman played club soccer for the Solar Soccer Club 04/03 ECNL under coach Ben Williams and was the lynchpin in a backline that was one of the stingiest and decorated in the youth game at the time. During her time playing club, Hartman was named to the 2020-21 ECNL Texas First Team All-Conference. She was also a ECNL U17 Third Place National Medalist and DA Elite 8 qualifier in 2019-20.

LSU soccer signs goalkeeper Alyson Campbell

The Tigers added the Boulder, Colorado, native on Monday.

BATON ROUGE – The LSU Soccer program and head coach Sian Hudson signed goalkeeper Alyson Campbell to join the Tigers in 2023.

“We are excited to announce the addition of Alyson to our team and goalkeeping union,” said head coach Sian Hudson. “She is a player who showed tremendous presence, strong communication and leadership qualities. Those attributes combined with her technical ability give her many of the tools needed to be a strong addition for us.”

Campbell, a native of Boulder, Colorado, is a senior at Fairview High School and will begin her time as a Tiger in August. At Fairview, she is a two-time captain of the soccer team and won the character embodiment award for her leadership on the squad.

The Colorado native is also a two-time Academic All-State member and was named to the All-Region First Team in 2022.

Campbell won the Colorado State Cup MVP with FC Boulder in 2019 before joining the Colorado Rapids ECNL club team.

LSU soccer’s Taylor Dobles selected to Puerto Rican women’s national team for upcoming camp

Dobles will join the team for a camp in California from April 8-13.

BATON ROUGE – LSU Soccer player Taylor Dobles was selected to join the Puerto Rico Women’s National Team for their upcoming camp in April at the Chula Vista Training Center.

The Puerto Rican Football Federation is the governing body of association football in Puerto Rico.

A native of Pembroke Pines, Florida, Dobles will join the team from April 8-13 for the team’s upcoming camp in California, where she and the team will compete against Tijuana in a friendly match at Caliente Stadium on April 11.

The forward’s Puerto Rican descent comes from her grandparents on her father’s side, making her eligible to compete for the national team.

Dobles appeared in all 21 matches for the Tigers last season and tallied two goals, two assists, and 880 minutes on the pitch. In her career, she has earned the start in 24 matches for the Tigers and recorded five goals and 18 shots on goal.

The senior completed her bachelor’s degree in business in December and will return for her final season with the Tigers in 2023.
