Haleigh Bryant sets LSU’s program record for perfect 10s

Bryant put on a show Friday night.

It was senior night for LSU gymnastics, and though she’s not a senior, [autotag]Haleigh Bryant[/autotag] gave the fans something to remember in LSU’s final regular season home meet.

Bryant stole the show with three perfect scores in one night.

Bryant began the night with a 10 on vault and followed it up with a perfect performance on bars.

Her third 10 of the night, and 10th of her career, came on the floor.

Bryant’s been a star for LSU all year. Now a junior, she’s been a key contributor since she arrived on campus.

She was the NCAA vault champion in 2021 and All-American in 2022. She’ll have a case to be the SEC’s gymnast of the year this season. LSU’s regular season is now complete as the Tigers shift their attention to the SEC Championships at Gas South Arena in Duluth, Georgia this weekend.

LSU last won the tournament in 2019, finishing off a stretch where the Tigers won three in a row.

Pete Maravich’s all-time scoring record survives as Detroit Mercy’s Antoine Davis falls short in (potentially) his final game

Davis missed a three in the final seconds that would have tied Maravich’s record.

Pete Maravich’s all-time scoring record, which has stood since 1970, remains intact.

Detroit Mercy’s Antoine Davis mounted quite a challenge to the record this season, and he entered Thursday’s Horizon League Tournament game against Youngstown State just 26 points away from surpassing Maravich’s Division I career scoring record of 3,667 points.

However, Davis finished with 22 points as he battled a shoulder injury, and a three-pointer in the final seconds that would have tied the record came up short in a 71-66 loss that may have ended the Titans’ season and Davis’ career.

Maravich’s record isn’t necessarily safe for good. Detroit Mercy is in contention for a CBI bid, which would give Davis an extra game and an excellent chance of breaking the record. At 14-19 overall with a 9-11 record in league play, an invite is far from guaranteed.

Even then, the Titans would have to pay a $27,500 entrance fee, which isn’t exactly pocket change for a low mid-major program.

Time will tell if Maravich’s record is safe for good. Regardless, it’s worth noting a few things that make his achievement during his playing career even more impressive.

Freshmen were not allowed to play on the varsity team at that time, so Maravich only played three seasons compared to Davis’ four. Maravich also accomplished this feat in the days prior to the invention of the shot clock and three-point line.

Maravich averaged more than 44 points per game over his entire career, a record that will almost certainly never be contested. His college career was one of one, and his all-time scoring record is safe — for now, at least.

LSU women’s basketball sets attendance record at PMAC in win over Mississippi State

There was a record-setting 15,721 fans on hand at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Sunday night.

There was a packed house on hand  — literally — at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Sunday evening as the LSU women’s basketball team beat Mississippi State 74-59 to close out the regular season at 27-1, matching the program-best win total from 2004-05.

With an announced attendance at 15,721 for senior night, it was the largest crowd the PMAC has seen for any event since the venue opened in 1972 with more than 2,000 more people in attendance than the official capacity.

LSU closed out one of the best regular seasons in program history under second-year coach Kim Mulkey, but it’s looking for more. The Tigers are the No. 2 seed at the SEC Tournament in Greenville, South Carolina, this week and could have the opportunity to avenge their lone loss of the year against top-ranked, undefeated South Carolina.

If LSU can make a championship run and defeat the Gamecocks, Mulkey’s team will likely be in line for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Angel Reese, Jasmine Carson set records in LSU’s win over Florida

Reese and Carson impressed in Sunday’s big road win, scoring a combined 50 of LSU’s 90 points.

The LSU Tigers women’s basketball team strung together its second-straight win since a disappointing loss to South Carolina on Sunday, beating Florida on the road 90-79.

The Tigers got monster performances from a pair of standouts in [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] and [autotag]Jasmine Carson[/autotag], who each scored 25 points in a win that saw them walk away holding new records.

Reese is the first SEC player over the last 20 years to total 25 points, 15 rebounds and five assists in a conference game. Carson, meanwhile, tied the LSU school record for most made threes against a conference opponent with seven in the win on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers remained No. 5 in the AP Poll this week after winning both their games against Ole Miss and the Gators. Coach [autotag]Kim Mulkey[/autotag] and her team return to the court on Thursday night when they travel to Nashville, Tennessee, to take on Vanderbilt.

8 LSU football records that could be broken

These records could be set to fall soon.

Records are set to be broken.

With each passing year, new standards are set. Some are more impressive than others. Earlier this week, I took a look at six LSU football records that will never be broken.

It’s time to flip it and look at some that could. Some of these are single-game records, others are single-season, and even some are career ones.

The single-season and single-game records are always the toughest to predict. There’s no statistical pace to base a projection on. Career records are different. You can look at a player’s first couple of years and see what it would take to reach that career mark.

Here’s a look at eight LSU football records that could soon fall.

6 LSU football records that will never be broken

These records will likely stand the test of time.

LSU has played football for over 100 years.

The game has changed a lot in that span. What we see now looks different than what those watching in 1905 saw. The rules are different, and players are deployed in different ways.

Some records set long ago will never be broken. A lot of that can be owed to the game’s changes. Other numbers are just so impressive that it would take one of the game’s greats to beat them.

Of course, there were also records that were broken because of the changes. Passing records from the 1930s didn’t stand a chance against modern statistics. Here, we’re going to look at six LSU football records that, in all likelihood, will stand until the end of time.
