LSU Tigers’ 2022 football recruiting commitment tracker

The full tracker for the LSU Tigers’ 2022 recruiting class

In the game of college football, recruiting is oftentimes more competitive than the games themselves. For the LSU Tigers and head coach Ed Orgeron, they have one of the top classes according to most recruiting boards. In fact, at this point in time, the Tigers are No. 1 in the Southeastern Conference.

The 2022 class is led by a five-star quarterback from Lafayette, Louisiana, Walker Howard. Currently listed as the No. 2 quarterback in the class behind Ohio State Buckeyes‘ commit Quinn Ewers. The QB commit is a top 20 player nationally and is expected to become the guy in the very near future in Death Valley. The Tigers have high hopes he can replicate the success of Joe Burrow and bring home another national championship.

Just below Howard, Will Campbell and Jacoby Mathews are the other two five-star commits to bring their total to three at this point. These rankings courtesy of 247Sports composite boards. LSU has a total of 11 commits and the staff is just getting started with their 2022 class. Last year, the Tigers finished with the No. 3 class overall and No. 2 in the SEC just behind the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The full breakdown of the LSU Tigers’ 2022 commits. This will be updated as more prospects pledge to play for the Tigers.

On Monday, one of the top 2022 prospects in the nation announced his top six schools, and LSU made the cut.

Jacoby Mathews, a 6-foot-1, 204-pound safety from Ponchatoula High in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, also included Florida, USC, Arizona State, Texas and Clemson as his other finalists.

Matthews could be the latest high-profile safety to pick the Tigers, joining five-star Sage Ryan and four-star Derrick Davis Jr. in the 2021 class.

“I want to visit every school in my Top 6,” Mathews told Geaux247. “It’s mandatory I get there.”

A two-way standout in high school, Mathews will focus on the defensive side of the ball at the next level.

Mathews is the No. 2 player in Louisiana for 2022. The No. 1 player, quarterback Walker Howard, is already committed to the Tigers. The No. 3 player, offensive tackle Will Campbell, is also committed to LSU.

Mathews has no timeframe for a decision as he expects to visit each of his finalists before making a decision.

Top LSU target sets date for official visits

Earl Little was a standout safety for the University of Miami in the 90s.

Earl Little was a standout safety for the University of Miami in the 90s. Little would go on to have a nine-year career in the NFL before retiring after the 2005 season.

Now, Little’s son, Earl Jr., is one of the top cornerback recruits in the nation for the class of 2022. The LSU Tigers are among the schools standing out to Little.

Earlier this week, Little announced plans for his five official visits, and the Tigers were one of his chosen schools. Other schools expected to receive an official visit are USC, Florida, Alabama and Florida State.

While Little didn’t necessarily say these were his top schools, it’s a good indication of his future plans. His father’s alma mater, Miami, is not expected to receive an official visit as Little has been to the campus many times over the years.

[lawrence-related id=16824]

The 6-foot-0, 175-pound Little plays his high school football at Plantation in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Plantation is also the alma mater of Alabama cornerback Patrick Surtain II, who is expected to be a top-15 pick in the 2021 NFL draft.

The NCAA dead period would have to be lifted for Little to make his official visits, but there is optimism it could be lifted in June. Little’s first announced official visit is in June to USC.

He is expected to visit Baton Rouge on the weekend of Oct. 2, when the Tigers host Auburn.

Little told Andrew Ivins of 247Sports why he likes LSU.

“That’s DBU,” Little said. “You see what they do with their DBs. I feel like I could go there, get developed by coach [Corey] Raymond, and just perform. I got a tight relationship with their coaching staff, too, so that’s key.”

That’s great news for LSU, which currently has the No. 3 recruiting class for 2022, according to 247Sports. The Tigers have 11 commitments for 22.

Little doesn’t expect to decide until national signing day.

Arch Manning remains the No. 1 quarterback in the class of 2023

To the surprise of no one, Arch Manning is the top quarterback in the class of 2023, according to 247Sports.

To the surprise of no one, Arch Manning is the top quarterback in the class of 2023, according to 247Sports.

Manning, a 6-foot-3, 200-pound pro-style passer from Isidore Newman in New Orleans, was initially ranked the No. 1 quarterback when 247Sports first released its top 100 players.

This week, the recruiting site ranked its Top247, and Manning remains the No. 1 quarterback — and No. 5 overall prospect.

The nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning, Arch Manning, will be one of the most coveted high-school passers in recent memory.

[lawrence-related id=16781]

As a sophomore in 2020, Manning completed 146 of 219 pass attempts for 1,922 yards with 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Manning led Newman to a 9-1 record and a berth in the Louisiana Division III state semifinals.

While it is still early in Manning’s recruitment, he told Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports he has spoken with several coaches and named LSU head coach Ed Orgeron and offensive coordinator Jake Peetz.

“I’ve been talking with a bunch of coaches,” Manning said. “Coach Sark (Steve Sarkisian) at Texas, coach Peetz and coach O (Orgeron) at LSU and I’ve gotten the opportunity to talk with coach Saban too.”

It’s good news for LSU fans Manning specifically named both Peetz and Orgeron.

[lawrence-related id=16763]

Signing the top players in the state of Louisiana is always LSU’s top priority. And there is no bigger talent in 2023 from Louisiana than Manning.

Despite commitments from Garrett Nussmeier and Walker Howard in back-to-back classes, Manning will remain LSU’s top priority in the future.

The LSU Tigers currently have the No. 3 recruiting class in 2022, per 247Sports. The Tigers have 11 prospects committed for 2022 and remain involved with some of the nation’s top prospects.

Could LSU now be on the verge of landing an elite pass-rusher for 2022?

Five-star defensive end Shemar Stewart recently told Andrew Ivins of 247Sports he was setting up his official visits and the Tigers would be first on the list.

Per Ivins, Stewart has tentative plans to visit Baton Rouge on the weekend of June 4. Stewart’s visit for June 4 is pending the NCAA finally lifts the dead period on in-person recruiting, which has been in place since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic last year.

[lawrence-related id=16707]

Stewart, a 6-foot-5, 240-pound defensive end from Monsignor Pace in Opa Locka, Florida, also has interest in Georgia, Clemson, Miami, Ohio State and Texas A&M.

Per NCAA rules, each recruit receives five official visits.

Stewart has never visited LSU’s campus. Could the Tigers receiving the first official visit be viewed as a positive sign for Ed Orgeron and LSU?

Stewart is in no rush to make a decision and is expected to hold off on making an announcement until at least December, during the early signing period.

2022 four-star defensive tackle commits to LSU

New LSU defensive line coach Andre Carter picked up his first commitment on Thursday when 2022 defensive tackle Tygee Hill committed to the

New LSU defensive line coach Andre Carter picked up his first commitment on Thursday when 2022 defensive tackle Tygee Hill committed to the Tigers.

Hill, a 6-foot-3, 280-pounder, is a four-star prospect from Edna Karr High School in New Orleans. He chose LSU over Alabama and Florida, among others.

LSU officially offered Hill last February before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down in-person recruiting. Wide receivers coach Mickey Joseph was his lead recruiter until Carter’s hiring in late January, and he jumped in to close the deal.

Here is a portion of 247Sports’ national recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks’ scouting report on Hill:

Stout interior defensive lineman with a bit more length than may be obvious to the naked eye. Should easily reach 300-pound mark if desired. As high school career has progressed, more of a strength-oriented defender than a disruptive, attacking presence. Plays with good leverage and displays encouraging stack-and-shed ability vs. the run. Strong enough to take on blocks and still make a play. Shows above average linear pursuit ability relative to size.

Hill is the first defensive lineman in LSU’s 2022 recruiting class, which currently has 11 commitments and is No. 2 in the country.

5-star offensive tackle has LSU among finalists

The LSU Tigers return their entire starting offensive line for 2021. Now, the Tigers are working on their future at the unit.

The LSU Tigers return their entire starting offensive line for 2021. Now, the Tigers are working on their future offensive line, beginning with the class of 2022.

LSU has commitments from five-star offensive tackle Will Campbell and three-star offensive tackle Bo Bordelon for 2022.

But the Tigers are far from finished.

Kelvin Banks Jr., a five-star offensive tackle from Summer Creek High in Humble, Texas, released his top eight schools on Twitter and LSU made the cut.

[lawrence-related id=16331]

At 6-foot-5, 300 pounds, Banks has elite size. He also tremendous athleticism and strong footwork, making him an ideal candidate to help his future school the moment he steps on campus.

Banks and his father, Kelvin Banks Sr., recently spoke to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports and seemed to favor three schools: Texas, Texas A&M, and LSU.

“He pretty much has a good rapport with all of them, but he’s been really into UT and A&M and like LSU,” Banks Sr. said.

At LSU, Banks Jr. has already developed a strong relationship with head coach Ed Orgeron and offensive line coach James Cregg.

[lawrence-related id=16328]

“Coach Cregg and Coach O are great coaches and always talking to me and communicating with me, and that’s great as well,” the younger Banks stated.

The Tigers currently have 10 commitments for 2022 and the No. 2 overall class, according to 247Sports.

Banks is the No. 24 overall player and No. 2 offensive tackle in 2022, and his addition would give LSU one of the best offensive line classes in recent memory.

Former LSU commit says LSU remains among top-five schools

The LSU Tigers are off to a strong start for the 2022 recruiting class. LSU currently has 10 players committed for 2022, which ranks No. 2

The LSU Tigers are off to a strong start for the 2022 recruiting class. LSU currently has 10 players committed for 2022, which ranks No. 2, according to 247Sports.

LSU could be sitting at No. 1 if not for the Jan. 30 decommitment of four-star safety Bryce Anderson. Anderson, who was the first player to commit to LSU’s 2022 class all the way back in Sept. 2019. backed off of his pledge and many thought the Tigers would no longer be considered.

That’s not the case as on Saturday, Anderson released his finalists and LSU made the cut.

Joining the Tigers in Anderson’s top five were Texas, Texas A&M, Michigan, and USC.

The 6-foot-0, 190-pound safety plays his high school football at West Brook High in Beaumont, Texas.

After releasing his list of finalists on Twitter, Anderson spoke with Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports and said LSU remains in hot pursuit.

“LSU, they’re recruiting me harder since I decommitted and they text me and are calling me every day,” Anderson said. “I already know their schemes and stuff and how they play and I’m ready to see what the new DC (Daronte Jones) does.”

Anderson has no timeline for his final decision.

LSU among top schools for 2022 offensive lineman

The LSU Tigers are off to a great start in their 2022 football recruiting class.

The LSU Tigers are off to a great start in their 2022 football recruiting class. The Tigers already have nine verbal commitments after picking up five in January alone.

Two of LSU’s 2022 commitments are offensive tackles Will Campbell and Bo Bordelon. Both players reside in the state of Louisiana.

Could the Tigers be on the verge of adding another offensive lineman to the class?

On Tuesday, three-star offensive Jacob Hood announced his top six schools on Twitter and LSU made the cut.

Baylor, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, and Tennessee were his other finalists.

At 6-foot-8, 342 pounds, Hood has the size to step in and play immediately once he arrives on a college campus. His size would indicate he is likely to stay at offensive tackle if he chooses the Tigers.

LSU offensive line coach James Cregg has clearly focused on adding several offensive linemen in this class. The Tigers will return all five starters in 2021 but need to add several players in 2022 to replenish the talent it could lose following next season.

Hood hasn’t announced a timeframe for his decision.
