Rutgers men’s lacrosse got a huge resume builder on Saturday with a 10-6 win against No. 6 Loyola.
The home win helps right the ship for the Scarlet Knights after last weekend’s tough loss at No. 20 Army. With Saturday afternoon’s result, No. 14 Rutgers is now 3-1 on the season.
Last week’s loss at Army saw Rutgers drop eight spots in the media poll.
Rutgers was led by three goals and four assists from junior mid Shane Knobloch. Kyle Mullin made 16 saves in the win.
Loyola surged in the polls following season-opening wins over Maryland and Johns Hopkins. The 12-7 win over Maryland was especially impressive considering that the Terrapins didn’t lose a game last season on their way to the national championship.
Last season, Rutgers advanced to the championship weekend of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
Rutgers will play a solid St. John’s program on Tuesday before beginning a tough stretch of schedule that includes Utah (receiving votes), No. 4 Princeton and UMass (receiving votes) before beginning Big Ten play in late-March.
