Ohio State men’s volleyball clinches share of MIVA regular-season title

Another conference title for the Ohio State men’s volleyball program. #GoBucks

With a 3-0 sweep of No. 10 Loyola-Chicago, the Ohio State men’s volleyball team has clinched a share of the 2023 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association regular-season title, its first since 2018.

Ohio State won a tight first set, 29-27, on a Cole Young kill to go up 1-0, then took set two, 28-26, thanks to an error by Loyola to go up 2-0 and on the verge of the upset. Set three would be close too, with the Wramblers going up 3-0 before the Buckeyes tightened things up 6-6 with a 4-1 run. Things would be close from there on out with each going on mini runs, but the Buckeyes would again take the set on a Loyola error, 25-23, to get the straight-set win.

The win was the eighth in a row for Ohio State and drew the Buckeyes even with Loyola-Chicago and Ball State at 11-3 in the conference for a three-way tie for the regular-season crown. The Buckeyes finish the regular-season 19-9 overall and will be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming MIVA conference tournament. The first-round matchup will be hosted at the Covelli Center.

Five things to know about Ohio State basketball’s opponent in the NCAA Tournament, Loyola-Chicago

Get to know more about the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers as Ohio State prepares to meet them in the NCAA Tournament.

Ohio State is going dancing, though it feels more like a backward shuffle than a ballroom celebration. The Buckeyes received a No. 7 seed in the South Region of the NCAA Tournament and will face those media darlings, the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers.

The Ramblers went on an improbable Final Four run in 2018, then got themselves a couple of more wins to reach the Sweet 16 in last year’s tournament. Now, they are back to try to make some noise again, but this time against YOUR Ohio State Buckeyes.

We know you get this program somewhat from when Sister Jean and crew showed up on your television set or streaming device in 2018 and again in 2021, but this year’s team is a little different. So, we thought it’d be worthwhile to give you some insight on this ballclub that OSU is going to face, one that will no doubt be a hard out for Ohio State if it has any plans on advancing.

Here are five things to know about Loyola-Chicago as we get ready for the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

Ohio State seeded seventh in NCAA Tournament

Ohio State seeded seventh in NCAA Tournament #GoBucks

Selection Sunday is upon us and our beloved Ohio State Buckeyes have been announced as the seventh seed in the South Region and their first opponent will be the tenth seed, Loyola-Chicago and the game will take place on Friday in Pittsburgh.

Despite losing four of their last five contests and being bounced from the Big Ten Tournament by Penn State in the second round on Thursday, hopes are high that the Ohio State Buckeyes can pull it together when it matters most. The Buckeyes face a tough opponent in Loyola-Chicago, who won the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament this weekend. The winner will take on the winner of the contest between the second and fifteenth seeds in Villanova and Delaware.
