The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets welcome the Louisville Cardinals to Mercedes-Benz Stadium Friday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Louisville vs. Georgia Tech odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.
The Yellow Jackets went 5-7 overall last season and 4-4 in conference play, but that marked an improvement on 3 consecutive seasons with 3 wins. Georgia Tech enters 2023 the interim title removed from head coach Brent Key who took over midseason for Geoff Collins last year. QB Zach Pyron is expected to start under center; the freshman played in 3 games last season, throwing 3 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.
The Cardinals ended last season with an 8-5 record and went 4-4 in conference play. Former head coach Scott Satterfield left in the offseason for Cincinnati after 4 years with the program and is replaced by Jeff Brohm who joins off 6 years with Purdue.
A familiar face for Brohm will be under center to start the year as senior transfer QB Jack Plummer will lead the way. Plummer spent 3 years at Purdue before transferring to California. He started for California in 2022 and threw 21 touchdowns with 9 interceptions in 12 games. Five transfers will start on the offensive for a revamped Cardinals roster.

Louisville at Georgia Tech picks and predictions
Prediction
Louisville 28, Georgia Tech 17
Moneyline
PASS.
The value to back the Cardinals (-300) just isn’t there as you would need to risk 3 times your potential return. However, the Yellow Jackets (+240) and Pyron are more inexperienced and likely won’t pull off the upset.
Against the spread
BET LOUISVILLE -7.5 (-110).
The difference is the quarterbacks and experience. Louisville added a quarterback with 3 years of experience in the Big Ten and also experience as a starter while bringing in 4 other transfer starters on its offense. That’s an impressive haul of new weapons.
Pyron wasn’t as impressive during his few appearances last season. Georgia Tech was just 6-6 ATS last season while Louisville was 8-5 ATS. The Cardinals have an improved roster and should dominate this game.
Back LOUISVILLE -7.5 (-110).
Over/Under
LEAN UNDER 49.5 (-110).
Georgia Tech and Louisville both have new coaches and quarterbacks who will be starting in their programs consistently for the first time. That could result in sloppy offense.
Last season, the Yellow Jackets went 4-7-1 O/U while Louisville was 4-9 O/U.
