Louisville, Notre Dame’s Week 5 opponent, loses key offensive contributor

The Cardinals top receiver will miss the game against the Irish

Notre Dame football isn’t the only team dealing with preseason injuries.

Louisville, the Irish’s Week 5 opposition, has lost one of its expected major contributors at wide receiver, [autotag]Caullin Lacy[/autotag], to a broken collar bone. He’s is believed to missing the first 6-8 weeks of the season according to a report by Pat Forde.

This is a big blow for the Cardinals, as the transfer caught 91 passes for 1,316 and 7 touchdowns last season for the South Alabama Jaguars. Lacy was expected to take over some of the lost production of Jamari Thrash (NFL), Kevin Coleman (transfer) and Ahmari Huggins-Bruce (transfer), as Louisville had to replace its top three receivers from the 2023 season.

It’s looking more and more like a rebuilding year for the Cardinals, especially considering they have to go to South Bend to take on the Irish.

Women’s Final Four: Best bets, odds and picks for March Madness 2022

Breaking down the NCAAW Final Four.

The women’s NCAA Tournament has seen madness from the opening tip, and it’s served as the perfect formula to debunk the whole “women’s tournament is predictable” thing.

Some of the lower seeds pulled off unexpected upsets that sent some of the sport’s more recognizable names home prematurely. Additionally, a few of the projected lottery picks of the upcoming draft also failed to make it past the first weekend.

Yet, as wildly chaotic as a lot of the tournament was, the dust is settled and the four best teams in the nation are left standing.

Let’s talk about the Final Four!

Notre Dame baseball’s 10-game winning streak ended by Louisville

Can’t win them all

The Irish were going to lose again at some point, that’s just the way baseball works. No team goes undefeated during a season, but Link Jarrett’s team hadn’t felt the agony of defeat in 10-games. The Louisville Cardinals broke that streak, scoring multiple runs in the first, third, sixth, and seventh inning to defeat the Irish 16-11.

The back-and-forth affair started with the Irish scoring three to begin the game, only to see the hosts score five of their own. The top of the third saw Notre Dame’s bats wake up again to tie the game at 5, only to lose that lead again in the bottom of the inning.

The fifth inning the bats would storm back again, with the Irish taking the lead 8-7, and again Louisville countered in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. The Cardinals would then score seven runs over the next two inning to take a lead they would never relinquish.

Every Irish starter had a hit with the exception of Zack Prajzner had a hit, unfortunately the pitching staff couldn’t hold up their end of the bargain. The series continues tomorrow, with a start time at 1:00pm EST.

Best college hoops bets: Women’s Big Ten-ACC Challenge duels to watch

Previewing some of the top games on Thursday’s women’s college basketball slate.

One of the great things about women’s college basketball this season is how much parity there is. Throughout the opening month of the season, even the best teams have looked human at times. South Carolina remains the No. 1 team in the nation through three weeks, but the Gamecocks have been through a couple of dogfights in order to stay there. The defending champion Stanford Cardinal already has two losses, and the rest of the top-10 have taken turns beating up on one another.

The action doesn’t stop as we roll into December and Thursday’s slate fall in line with what’s already been a fun and competitive beginning to the season. Here’s what to expect from the Big Ten/ACC Challenge games between Indiana-NC State, Duke-Iowa and Louisville-Michigan.
