Louisiana Tech at Mississippi State odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at Mississippi State Bulldogs odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and Mississippi State Bulldogs will meet in the season opener at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, Miss. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Louisiana Tech at Mississippi State odds and lines, and make our expert college football picks, predictions and bets.

MSU was 4-7 last year, 3-7 in SEC conference play, in their first season under head coach Mike Leach. They made a statement in their first game last year, though, knocking off eventual national champs LSU in their house 44-34. Leach is leaning toward quarterback Will Rogers in the opener. Rogers took over midway through last season and completed 69.1 percent of his passes for 1,976 yards, 11 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.

Louisiana Tech was 5-5 last season with a 4-2 mark inside the Conference USA. They’re returning 18 starters with 10 of them on the defensive side of the ball. Head coach Skip Holtz hopes to get their offense rolling early as they know the steep task ahead on the road.

Louisiana Tech at Mississippi State odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Mississippi State 31, Louisiana Tech 20

Money line

Mississippi State (-3000) will cost you 30 times your potential return, and that’s just too much risk for not much reward. Just focus on the spread instead.

AVOID.

Against the spread

LOUISIANA TECH +22.5 (-108) is not a pushover, having made seven consecutive trips to a bowl game. The offense gets a big shot in the arm with incoming transfer RB Marcus Williams from Appalachian State. The big question is whether QB Luke Anthony will be able to return to his pre-injury form after an ugly leg injury in December.

Mississippi State -22.5 (-112) should be able to win this game, but they have work to do. Leach has found it a slow-go trying to implement his “Air Raid” offense in Starkville, Miss.

Over/Under

UNDER 52.5 (-110) is worth a look for a small-unit play. While the focus on Mississippi State last season was its struggling offense, the defense quietly put together a great campaign. The Bulldogs allowed just 5.48 yards per play, fourth-best in the ultra-competitive SEC.

Week 1 first look: Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at Mississippi State Bulldogs odds and lines, MSU expected to cruise

Previewing the college football Week 1 matchup between the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and Mississippi State Bulldogs, with odds, trends and head-to-head records.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and Mississippi State Bulldogs open their 2021 regular season Saturday at Davis Wade Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Louisiana Tech vs. Mississippi State odds and lines; check back for our college football picks and predictions.

Last year ended on a sour note for Louisiana Tech as it was thumped 38-3 by Georgia Southern in the New Orleans Bowl, but it was still a successful season. The Bulldogs were 0-3 SU/ATS against non-Conference USA FBS teams in 2020.

Mississippi State won just four games, but it capped off its seasons with a win in the Armed Forces Bowl over Tulsa. The “Air Raid” offense of head coach Mike Leach is still a work in progress as he gets more people in place to fit his offensive scheme.

NIT Consolation: Colorado State vs. Louisiana Tech odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s Colorado State vs. Louisiana Tech odds and lines, with NIT Consoloation Game picks and predictions.

The No. 1 seed Colorado State Rams (20-7) take on the No. 4 seed Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (23-8) Sunday in the NIT Consolation Game at Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET on ESPN. Below, we analyze the Colorado State-Louisiana Tech odds and lines, with March Madness NCAA Tournament picks and predictions.

The Rams were no match for Memphis in the NIT semifinals and were blasted 90-67. Colorado State’s defense had been in lockdown mode in the first four postseason games while allowing an average of 64.5 points per game and the Under hit in each outing.

Memphis then blew the doors off, and that game easily cashed the Over. The Under is still 8-3 across Colorado State’s last 11 games.

The Bulldogs also didn’t put up much resistance in their NIT semifinal, falling 84-62 to Mississippi State. After allowing just 62.3 PPG in the first four postseason games, the defense struggled mightily in the loss. The Under is 13-7-2 across the past 22 games for the Bulldogs.

Colorado State vs. Louisiana Tech: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Colorado State 69, Louisiana Tech 66

Money line (ML)

COLORADO STATE (-120) is worth playing on the money line, as opposed to the spread. The Rams closed the regular season on a roll, and their only losses are to Utah State, an NCAA Tournament team, and to Memphis.

The Rams have a decent offense with 75.9 PPG, they’re a good free-throw shooting team and they play a strong brand of defense, too.

While Louisiana Tech made a nice run in the postseason, losing to eventual tournament team North Texas in the Conference USA tournament, it’s not as battle-tested as the Rams. Look for CSU to get onto NIT podium for a third-place finish.

Play our new, free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

There is no real good reason to play Colorado State -1 (-110) rather than just play the money line. Essentially it’s the same bet, unless you truly have some sort of a model which suggests to you that this will be a one-point game. Even then, you would simply push. AVOID, just play the ML.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 142.5 (-110) is my favorite play on the board in this consolation game, as I really like what I have seen from Colorado State’s defense.

Add in the fact Louisiana Tech hit the Over last time out, and it hasn’t hit consecutive Overs since Dec. 15-19, and the Under looks really good.

New Orleans Bowl: Louisiana Tech vs. Georgia Southern odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Louisiana Tech Bulldogs vs. Georgia Southern Eagles New Orleans Bowl sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (5-4, 4-2 C-USA) and the Georgia Southern Eagles (7-5, 4-4 Sun Belt) meet Wednesday for a 3 p.m. ET kickoff at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. Below, we analyze the Louisiana Tech-Georgia Southern college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Louisiana Tech vs. Georgia Southern: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 4:13 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Louisiana Tech +200 (bet $100 to win $200) | Georgia Southern -250 (bet $250 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Louisiana Tech +6.5 (-110) | Georgia Southern -6.5 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 48.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Louisiana Tech vs. Georgia Southern: Three things to know

  1. Louisiana Tech enters on a six-game bowl winning streak, including last season’s 14-0 upset of Miami in the Independence Bowl. This will also be the Bulldogs’ seventh appearance in 12 FBS bowl games in the state of Louisiana. They’re 4-1-1 in those games, and 7-1 ATS in the past eight bowl games
  2. Georgia Southern QB Shai Werts, a finalist for the Wuerffel Award, is a question mark due to a shoulder injury. With backup QB Justin Tomlin (ankle) out with and ankle surgery, Werts and Miller Mosely are listed atop the depth chart. Freshman QB Sam Kenerson could also get some snaps with the starter uncertain.
  3. Werts led the Eagles with 936 passing yards and 7 touchdowns, while running for a team-high 649 yards with 8 scores. He edged out RB J.D. King (625 yards, 5 TDs) for the rushing lead. The latter is also out for the season due to a knee ailment. Despite losing its leading rusher at the time, Georgia Southern was still seventh in the nation with 262.4 rushing yards per game.

Louisiana Tech vs. Georgia Southern: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Louisiana Tech 26, Georgia Southern 17

Money line (ML)

LOUISIANA TECH (+200) presents a great opportunity to double up your investment. One, the Bulldogs are playing in their home state, and two, the Eagles (-250) are just so banged up with uncertainty at the quarterback position.

Against the spread (ATS)

LOUISIANA TECH +6.5 (-110) has posted a 4-1-1 ATS mark in its past six bowl appearances in the Brown Pelican State, while registering Overs in seven of its past eight bowl games overall. The Bulldogs are also 5-1 ATS in the past six neutral-site appearances. Georgia Southern has cashed in just three of its past 12 games on a field turf surface, while hitting in just two of the past nine following a cover in its previous outing.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 48.5 (-110) might be my favorite play on the board in this one. The Under has connected in six of the past eight bowl games for Louisiana Tech, while cashing in eight of its past 10 neutral-site affairs. The Under is 5-1 in Georgia Southern’s past six non-conference tilts, 5-2 in the past seven as a favorite and 7-2 in the past nine against teams with a winning record.

Louisiana Tech at North Texas odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at North Texas Mean Green sports betting odds and lines, with college football betting picks, tips and predictions.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (4-3, 3-2 C-USA) visit the North Texas Mean Green (3-4, 2-3) Thursday for a 6 p.m. ET kickoff in Denton, Texas. Below, we analyze the Louisiana Tech-North Texas college football betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Louisiana Tech at North Texas: Betting odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 11:35 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Louisiana Tech -110 (bet $110 to win $100) | North Texas -110 (bet $110 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Louisiana Tech +1 (-110) | North Texas -1 (-110)
  • Over/Under: 66.5 (O: -106 | U: -115)

Louisiana Tech at North Texas: Three things to know

  1. Louisiana Tech slapped the brakes on a two-game losing streak with a 37-34 overtime win against UAB on Halloween in its most recent game. The Bulldogs had their previous two games against FIU and UL Monroe wiped out due to COVID-19 concerns.
  2. North Texas was dusted 49-17 Saturday at Texas-San Antonio, snapping a modest two-game winning streak. The Mean Green are just 2-3 straight up and ATS in five games at Apogee Stadium so far this season, hitting the Over in three of those contests.
  3. North Texas ranks fifth in the nation with 536.9 total yards, it’s 22nd with 290.0 passing yards and 10th with 246.9 rushing yards per game. The Mean Green are also posting 34.3 points per game, ranking 30th overall, while coughing 41.0 PPG on defense.

Louisiana Tech at North Texas: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Louisiana Tech 41, North Texas 34

Money line (ML)

LOUISIANA TECH (-110) is a good play on the road. Yes, the Bulldogs haven’t played since Halloween, so rust is a huge concern, but on the flip side, they’re well-rested and raring to go. North Texas comes back on a short week after a blowout loss on the road.

Against the spread (ATS)

LOUISIANA TECH +1 (-110) should also be back for some insurance. While the Bulldogs have covered just once in their past five games overall, they’re 5-1 ATS in their past six against teams with a losing record.

In addition, La. Tech is 5-1 ATS in its past six meetings with UNT, and 4-0 ATS in its past four trips to Denton. The road team is 6-2 ATS in the past eight in this series, too.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 66.5 (-106) is a great play here, as neither of these teams pay much attention at the defensive end. It should be a track meet. The Over is 5-1 in the past six for Louisiana Tech against losing sides, and the Over is 4-1 in North Texas’ past five appearances on a Thursday.

The Mean Green defense has been bad enough, but with just a few days to recover from Saturday’s loss at UTSA, they might struggle more than usual on the defensive end.
