A former Clemson standout returned to the practice field for his NFL team on Thursday.

The Las Vegas Raiders designated cornerback Trayvon Mullen for return from injured reserve, starting his 21-day window for returning from IR.

If Mullen is activated, he could return to action as soon as Sunday, when the Raiders play the Washington Football Team in Las Vegas.

The Raiders placed Mullen on IR on Oct. 9 following the team’s Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, during which Mullen left the game on a cart with a toe injury.

The former All-ACC performer recorded 16 tackles, four passes defenses and an interception in the Raiders’ first three games this season.

Mullen, a second-round pick of the Raiders in the 2019 NFL Draft, is in his third season with the franchise.

Fallout from Jon Gruden’s leaked emails: Everything you need to know

Jon Gruden has resigned. The Raiders have replaced him. And the NFL community has begun to respond.

Jon Gruden resigned as coach of the Las Vegas Raiders after a series of leaked emails that included racist, anti-gay and misogynist remarks.

Gruden responded to an initial email leak, one where the coach said NFLPA President DeMaurice Smith had “lips the size of Michelin tires.” Additional emails came to light, which included disparaging comments against NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and former player Michael Sam, the league’s first openly gay player, in 2014.

It’s a strikingly different narrative for the coach who won a Super Bowl as the coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was the Monday Night Football analyst on ESPN and received a 10-year, $100-million contract from the Raiders in 2018.

The New York Times revealed exactly what Gruden said in the emails:

“In the emails, Gruden called the league’s commissioner, Roger Goodell, a ‘f****t’ and a ‘clueless anti football p***y’ and said that Goodell should not have pressured Jeff Fisher, then the coach of the Rams, to draft ‘q***rs,’ a reference to Michael Sam, a gay player chosen by the team in 2014.”

Here’s everything we know about the fallout of the situation.

New mock draft proposes trade option for Cardinals in 1st round

This scenario is as close to ideal as the Cardinals could get.

The Arizona Cardinals currently have the eighth pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and many project them to select a top offensive line prospect or top receiver prospect.

In a new mock draft from The Athletic’s Dane Brugler, the Cardinals are one team that engages in a first-round trade, moving back four spots.

Their trade partner are the Los Vegas Raider, who move up to the eighth pick to select versatile Clemson defender Isaiah Simmons. They give up a third-round and a fifth-round pick to move up.

The Cardinals then, with the 12th pick, land Oklahoma WR CeeDee Lamb.

Reuniting Kyler Murray and Lamb? Sign me up. These players connected 65 times, including 11 touchdowns, for the Sooners in 2018. Lamb has big-time ball skills with the football IQ and route leverage downfield that reminds scouts of DeAndre Hopkins.

Lamb is the first receiver off the board. Two tackles were selected before the eighth pick — Alabama’s Jedrick Wills by the New York Giants at No. 4 and Louisville Mekhi Becton by the New York Jets in a trade up at No. 7.

If the Cardinals are in this situation, a trade back would be perfect. Lamb would be a fantastic fit and they would land a couple of extra picks. Depending on how they addressed the offensive line in free agency, they might not need a rookie to start right away, so they could land a Day 2 or Day 3 lineman they prepare for 2021.

This scenario would be almost ideal for the Cardinals.
