Michigan State fans, media react to Jim Harbaugh heading to the Los Angeles Chargers

After years of will he or will he not, one of the most divisive figures in the Big Ten is heading back to the NFL. With multiple controversies still hanging over the Wolverines, Jim Harbaugh is leaving Michigan football to join the Los Angeles Chargers as their next head coach.

Given how polarizing a figure Harbaugh has always been, it’s not surprising a large number of people, including Michigan State fans and media, took to social media to talk about the move.

You can see some of those reactions below.

Justin Herbert’s injury hurts Steelers playoff chances

The Steelers need all the help they can get to make the playoffs this year.

The big news out of the NFL this week was Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was placed on IR after fracturing his right index finger. This is horrible news for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Why? Well if you look at the Chargers remaining schedule, they have two games of particular interest to the Steelers. Next week the Chargers take on the 7-6 Buffalo Bills and the following week they go against the 7-6 Denver Broncos.

Minus Herbert, the odds of the Chargers winning those games go way down and those are both teams in the playoff hunt fighting with the Steelers for those final spots. Unfortunately with how poorly the Steelers have been playing, it isn’t a matter of win and you are in. They will need some help and now it doesn’t look like the Chargers will give it to them.

Tyreek Maddox-Williams is heading to the Los Angeles Chargers

Tyreek Maddox-Williams lands with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Tyreek Maddox-Williams is California dreaming, the former Rutgers linebacker set to sign an undrafted rookie free agent deal with the Los Angeles Chargers.

News of Maddox-Williams’ deal was broken on Twitter by Chargers Core on Saturday night.

Last season, he had 22 tackles for Rutgers while playing in a linebacker rotation for head coach Greg Schiano. He had a very good week of practice at the NFLPA Bowl where he looked and tested very strongly.

The Chargers are a good landing spot for the former Big Ten linebacker as the franchise didn’t draft a linebacker this year. Maddox-Williams, if he is able to step up, has a legitimate chance of making the practice squad or the roster.

Maddox-Williams signed a standard three-year rookie deal a source told RutgersWire. He will make $785,000 his rookie season,$870,000 his second season and $985,000 his third year.

He gets a $5,000 bonus from the Chargers as well.

Rutgers saw two players taken in Saturday’s NFL draft with wide receiver Bo Melton and running back Isiah Pacheco both taken in the seventh round. In addition, linebacker Olakunle Fatukasi signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Bears are trading star pass rusher Khalil Mack to Chargers

Bears GM Ryan Poles is making a splash trading star pass rusher Khalil Mack to the Chargers for “prime draft compensation.”

New Bears general manager Ryan Poles is starting his tenure with one massive trade of a star defensive player.

According to numerous NFL insiders, the Bears are trading star pass rusher Khalil Mack to the Los Angeles Chargers. Rapoport notes the compensation for Mack is a second round pick and a sixth-round pick, both in 2023.

Former Bears GM Ryan Pace traded two first-round picks, among others, to the Las Vegas Raiders for Mack back in 2018, and he’s been a pillar of Chicago’s defense ever since.

But following Mack’s dominant 2018 campaign, he’s failed to live up to that performance in the three years that followed. He’s failed to eclipse 10 sacks on the season while Robert Quinn set a new single-season franchise sack record with 18.5 last year.

At the NFL Scouting Combine last week, Poles said that he’d be “open minded” about acquiring more draft capital. A massive trade dealing Mack to the Chargers certainly resulted in that.

The Bears had just five draft selections heading into the 2022 NFL draft, including no first rounders. Now, they own two second round selections, including their own at 39th overall and the Chargers’ 48th overall.

Chargers make Justin Herbert’s childhood dream come true

Justin Herbert, young Chargers fan, is now the first-round draft pick of the team he rooted for as a kid.

How about this for foreshadowing?

That is young Justin Herbert. He’s an Oregon native but that didn’t stop him from being a fan of the then-San Diego Chargers at a young age.

Fast forward to 2020 and the NFL Draft, first round no less. The Chargers, now of Los Angeles pick sixth overall and choose Oregon’s Herbert with their pick.
