Los Angeles Clippers at Utah Jazz odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Los Angeles Clippers at Utah Jazz odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Los Angeles Clippers (36-36) open a two-game road trip when they meet the Utah Jazz (43-26) Friday. Tip-off is 9 p.m. ET at Vivint Arena. Below, we look at the Clippers vs. Jazz odds and lines, and make our expert NBA picks, predictions and bets.

The Clippers are coming off two consecutive losses, including a 103-100 home loss to the Toronto Raptors Wednesday. They have two wins in their last seven games.

L.A. is eighth place in the Western Conference and appears to be a lock for the play-in games to determine the final two seeds of the playoffs. It is seven games behind the sixth-place Denver Nuggets and eight games ahead of the 11th place San Antonio Spurs with 10 games remaining in its regular season.

The Jazz are in the thick of the Western Conference playoff race but have alternated wins and losses each of their last eight games. Friday’s game wraps up a four-game homestand in which they’ve gone 2-1.

Utah is fourth in the Western Conference but has the same record as the Dallas Mavericks, who are the No. 5 seed in the playoff race currently.

Clippers at Jazz odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Jazz 118, Clippers 109

Money line

PASS on the money line as a single bet.

The Clippers have lost five of their last seven games, are 16-21 on the road and have not beaten a winning team since defeating the Golden State Warriors 119-104 Feb. 14.

The Jazz are 25-11 at Vivint Arena this season. They beat the Clippers 124-103 at home Dec. 15 in the teams’ first meeting.

The Clippers don’t make a good bet and the Jazz don’t win you enough money for what you have to wager. You can include a Jazz win in a parlay bet, though, to make it worth your money.

Against the spread

The Clippers are 36-36 ATS on the season and also are 20-17 ATS on the road. They have failed to cover the spread in their last two games but are 5-5 ATS in their last 10.

The Jazz covered the spread in their most recent win but have only done so three times in their last 10 games. However, their last four wins have been by at least 9 points and they beat the Clippers by 21 in their previous matchup against them.

Take the JAZZ -5.5 (-108).

Over/Under

The Clippers have averaged only 104.0 points in their last seven games.

The Jazz have been up and down in their scoring. They have averaged 124.6 points per game in their last eight wins, scoring no fewer than 114 points in any of the games. However, they have averaged only 101.4 points per game in their last five losses.

Expecting a Jazz win tonight, they should score points. Take OVER 214.5 (-115).

Los Angeles Clippers at Utah Jazz Game 5 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Wednesday’s Los Angeles Clippers at Utah Jazz Game 5 odds and lines, with NBA picks, tips and predictions.

The Los Angeles Clippers take to the road for Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Utah Jazz Wednesday. Tip-off is slated for 10 p.m. ET at Vivint Arena with the series tied 2-2. Below, we look at the Clippers-Jazz odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

The last time these two matched up in Utah in Game 2, there was a raucous crowd of 18,007. The Jazz are 2-0 at home in the series.

The Clippers are coming in hot with SF Marcus Morris finding his rhythm.  SF Kawhi Leonard scored over 30 points in back-to-back games, as well.

After being completely dismantled for the bulk of Game 4, Utah has to figure out how to get back to its winning ways. As long as the Jazz keep riding their home wave, they’ll be just fine.

Clippers at Jazz: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Jazz 114, Clippers 110

Money line (ML)

PASS on the money line, although a bet on the Clippers does sound enticing after watching what happened in Game 4.

However, assuming Morris doesn’t go 5-for-6 from deep again, the Clippers could find themselves in trouble, much like they did in the two previous games in Utah.

Betting that the road team wins its first game of the series in Game 5 doesn’t make much sense. After several blowouts, this one should be close nonetheless as both teams are starting to figure out the other.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Bet JAZZ -3 (-110) because the home team has been dominant.

The Jazz’s dominance at home is no joke. It’s not a one-series fling either. They lost five games all regular season at home and 15 on the road.

With a 35-6 record at home and a 23-17 record on the road (including the playoffs), the Jazz are more confident and their elite 3-point shooting is much more lethal on their home court.

Knowing that, there’s no way I’d bet the Clippers to continue to dominate Utah.

Sixth Man of the Year SG Jordan Clarkson was MIA in Game 4, notching 8 points with a minus-16 rating. C Rudy Gobert also got a few quick fouls, something unlikely to repeat itself.

For those reasons, betting Utah to cover and win by 4 or more points in Game 5 is the best value. Also, the home team has covered in all four games.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the OVER 223.5 (-105).

The Over hit in two of four games, and the two teams totaled at least 221 points in all four. Sure, it’s possible two 3-point-heavy teams collapse, but the Jazz shot over 40% from deep in two home games in the series.

If that repeats itself, the Over should hit. The Jazz are 40-40-1 on the Over while the Clippers are 40-41-2, including the playoffs.

Oddsmakers have been spot on with these two teams so far this season, and Game 5 appears no different. The Over is the better play, but neither side is a great bet for the value.

Los Angeles Clippers at Utah Jazz Game 2 odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Los Angeles Clippers at Utah Jazz Game 2 odds and lines, with NBA picks, tips and predictions.

The 4-seed Los Angeles Clippers trail the 1-seed Utah Jazz 0-1 in the Western Conference Seminfinals and try to even the series Thursday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET at Vivint Arena. Below, we analyze the Clippers-Jazz odds and lines, with NBA picks and predictions.

The Clippers got off to a good start and led by as many as 14 points in Game 1, but the Jazz rallied back. L.A. had a chance to tie at the end but F Marcus Morris had his 3-point attempt blocked by Jazz C Rudy Gobert. SF Kawhi Leonard led the Clippers with 23 points in a losing effort.

The Jazz got 45 points from SG Donovan Mitchell and 18 each from F Bojan Bogdanovic and G Jordan Clarkson. The Jazz have won five games in a row in the playoffs after losing Game 1 in the first round. They did not have PG Mike Conley Tuesday, as he missed the game due to a hamstring injury.

Clippers at Jazz: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Clippers 109, Jazz 106

Money line (ML)

The Clippers faced a 2-0 deficit in the first round of the playoffs against the Dallas Mavericks and will not want to do that again, as Utah was the league’s best team in the regular season. L.A. is 19-9 after a loss this year.

The Jazz have won five in a row in the playoffs and have the league’s best record after a win at 40-16. They had only five losses at home in the regular season.

Game 1 went down to the wire. Game 2 should as well, only I expect the team with a two-time champion leading the way to bounce back.

Take the CLIPPERS (+125) for the upset.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

Game 1 was a push with the three-point spread. The Clippers are 4-3-1 ATS this postseason, while the Jazz are 4-1-1 ATS. With the exception of Game 1, both teams covered the spread in each of their playoff wins.

Expecting L.A. to bounce back and even the series, take the CLIPPERS +3 (-105).

Over/Under (O/U)

Every one of the Jazz’s games in the postseason has gone Over the projected total so far. L.A. is 4-4 O/U in the postseason.

On the season, both teams went Under more often than they went Over.

That said, if the pace keeps up like it has for the Jazz, that will make it hard for the Clippers. They will tighten up defensively and slow down the pace.

Take UNDER 221.5 (-110).

Los Angeles Clippers at Utah Jazz odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Friday’s Los Angeles Clippers at Utah Jazz NBA betting odds and lines, with basketball picks, tips and predictions.

The Los Angeles Clippers (4-1) visit Salt Lake City on New Year’s Day to play the Utah Jazz (2-2) in the Vivint Smart Home Arena at 9 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Clippers-Jazz NBA betting odds and lines, with picks and predictions.

Los Angeles rebounded from a 51-point stomping by the Dallas Mavericks Sunday to win, and cover, two straight against the Minnesota Timberwolves (124-101 Tuesday) and the Portland Trail Blazers (128-105 Wednesday) – all three games were at home. SF Kawhi Leonard returned vs. Portland, donning a faceguard, after a two-game absence due to a mouth injury suffered as a result of a collision with teammate C Serge Ibaka in their Christmas victory at the Denver Nuggets.

The Jazz didn’t get much of a holiday as they lost to the Phoenix Suns on New Year’s Eve 106-95 as 4-point home underdogs. The key factor in Utah’s loss was the Jazz being a little worse in the 3-point department. The Suns were 51.5% on 3’s (17 of 33) and the Jazz shot 35.3% (12 of 34).

Utah was one of the few teams that won the regular-season series over Los Angeles in 2019-20, going 2-1 outright and ATS vs. the Clippers last season. The last time they met the Jazz beat a Clippers team that had both Leonard and SG Paul George in the lineup, which was a rare regular-season sight, in Los Angeles 120-107 as 7.5-point underdogs.

Clippers at Jazz: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Jazz 116, Clippers 110

Money line (ML)

The better play is Utah plus the points, but I’m down to sprinkle a quarter-unit on JAZZ (+135) with the plan of betting the spread heavier. The Clippers have lost five straight in Utah and the Jazz being home underdogs is pretty rare. The Jazz have been spotted points in Utah just four times since 2018—and are 3-1 outright in that situation with a 5.8-point average margin of victory.

Against the spread (ATS)

Not only are the Jazz 4-0 ATS as home underdogs since 2018, but they have the third-highest cover percentage as underdogs in that time span. It’s a perfect buy-low spot for the Jazz, who’ve lost three straight ATS but are completely healthy.

The Jazz’s 3-point shooting hasn’t come around yet, but they led the NBA in 3-point percentage last season and will break out of their slump eventually. New Year’s Day is the perfect time for the Jazz to turn it around from deep after three consecutive subpar shooting performances. Also, Utah is the best rebounding team in the league and Los Angeles is a net negative in rebounds per game. GIMME JAZZ +3.5 (-110) for 1.5 units.

Over/Under (O/U)

The market is hammering the Under, driving it down from the 225-point opener to the current price. Aside from the stinker vs. the Mavericks, the Clippers’ offense has looked great this season: Seventh in both offensive rating and 3-point percentage. Plus, I’ve already stated why the Jazz are due for a slump-buster performance from their offense.

PASS ON THE TOTAL.
