Lonzo Ball received love from his brother LaMelo after playing his first game in almost 3 years

LaMelo tweeted his full support for Lonzo.

Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball returned to the court after missing more than two NBA seasons and he looked great.

Lonzo, who was selected No. 2 overall in the 2017 NBA Draft, could provide a major spark to the Bulls if he returns to form this season. While he received a game ball and a standing ovation, he also got plenty of love from players in the league as well.

LONZO BALL: An NBA player should not look this good after missing nearly 3 years

That includes a shout out from Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton as well as his youngest brother, LaMelo Ball, who is one of the top young players in the NBA.

LaMelo showed some major respect for his oldest brother, Lonzo. The two will play against each other on December 30 in Charlotte and then January 17 in Chicago.

They will have two more games against each other later in the season as well.

Lonzo Ball should not look this good after missing nearly 3 years

Everyone loves a comeback narrative and Lonzo can provide exactly that.

Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball returned to the court for a preseason game and the results were fairly stunning.

Due to various injuries and multiple surgeries, Ball has not played a regular-season NBA game since January 2022. But after such a gruesome recovery process, the former No. 2 overall pick from UCLA is back on the court and that is fantastic news.

Just to see him suit up again and take the floor would go a long way for his fans. But instead, nearly three years later, his on-court performance was so fantastic.

LONZO BALL: Bulls guard immediately drained a 3-pointer after making his anticipated return from injury

Not only did Ball immediately hit a 3-pointer during the preseason game for the Bulls, but there was plenty more to like as well.

He still looks like a high-level defensive contributor, which could go a very long way for Chicago after trading away Alex Caruso to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

He consistently showed his amazing intelligence for the game and was durable enough to play an efficient 15 minutes of basketball.

Ball scored 10 points but also added 1 assist, 1 rebound, 1 steal, and 1 block. The guard did not turn the ball over during the contest, either.

If these are the types of moments that we can expect from Ball during the upcoming season, it would genuinely become one of the most exciting stories in the league.

Everyone loves a comeback narrative and Ball can provide exactly that.

2024-25 Chicago Bulls: A quick preview

The Chicago Bulls appear ready to dismantle their roster and focus on a full rebuild around their remaining young talent. After years without significant roster changes, the Bulls shook things up this summer by trading away DeMar DeRozan, their top offensive weapon, and Alex Caruso, their defensive anchor. Although they missed the optimal window to get maximum value for both players, their trades have now positioned the team for a youth movement.

The future now centers around guard Josh Giddey, rookie forward Matas Buzelis, Coby White, and Patrick Williams. Buzelis, the 11th overall pick in this year’s draft, had an impressive Summer League showing and is expected to play a significant role this season. Standing at 6-foot-8 with rare ball-handling skills for his size, Buzelis brings much-needed versatility to the Bulls, though his shooting remains a work in progress.

Despite persistent trade rumors, Zach LaVine remains on the roster, leaving questions about whether the Bulls will trade him before the season or if he still fits into their future plans. Nikola Vucevic has also failed to meet expectations in Chicago, leaving the Bulls with a depleted frontcourt. The only reinforcement heading into the season is the addition of Jalen Smith on a bargain contract.

Lonzo Ball: I would’ve traded myself for Anthony Davis

It seems like Lonzo Ball didn’t take it personally when the Lakers sent him away in the deal that brought them Anthony Davis in 2019.

Many Los Angeles Lakers fans instantly fell in love with Lonzo Ball when the team took him with the No. 2 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. He was a local product, as he grew up in Chino Hills and attended the University of California, Los Angeles, and he was the subject of massive hype upon entering the NBA.

While Ball has been a good player at times, he has fallen well short of meeting the hype that was generated for him. He has also been very injury-prone, and he hasn’t played in an NBA game since injuring his meniscus in the middle of the 2021-22 season.

The guard was sent packing in the summer of 2019 as part of the trade that brought Anthony Davis to Los Angeles. As a member of the Chicago Bulls now, he admitted that it was a very understandable trade while on “The WAE Show” recently.

“I mean, we know what happened when we was walking through the hallways,” said Ball. “We were told one thing. That’s the first time that I realized that this is definitely a business, you know? But, at the same time, it was like it’s Anthony Davis. A part of me was like, I mean, to be fair, I would have traded myself for Anthony Davis.”

That trade in 2019 quickly resulted in an NBA championship for the Lakers. Meanwhile, Ball would spend two seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans, where he greatly improved his 3-point shooting, before being traded to the Bulls in 2021.

Plenty of Lakers fans still hold a soft spot for Ball and would welcome him back in a hurry, despite his injury history and the deficiencies in his game.

Bulls guard Lonzo Ball offers to pay Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese’s ejection fine

The ejection, Reese’s first of her still-young WNBA career, came in an 88-75 loss to the New York Liberty.

With veteran Chicago Bulls point guard Lonzo Ball having spent much of the last three NBA seasons out injured with a complicated knee injury, there has been a lot of time for Ball to watch the sport he made a small fortune in before going down hurt.

And the Bulls floor general has evidently taken a shine to the WNBA in that stretch, even going as far as offering to pay for the penalty of Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese after witnessing her ejection courtside. The Sky star had been ejected for waiving off a referee, with a technical foul having already been assessed her.

The ejection, Reese’s first of her still-young WNBA career, came in an 88-75 loss to the New York Liberty. Ball soon took to social media, and offered to pay Reese’s fine for what he called a “weak” ejection.

“Keep ya money, Angel. I got you,” posted the Bulls guard. No word on if she took him up on the offer, but it’s good to see solidarity between Chicago ball clubs.

Lonzo Ball classily offers to pay for Angel Reese’s fine after ‘weak’ ref ejected her

Lonzo Ball agrees that Angel Reese shouldn’t have been ejected.

It was an ejection that had everyone buzzing — why did Angel Reese get two quick technical fouls in Tuesday’s Chicago Sky and New York Liberty? Because she chirped a bit at a ref AND waved a little at him?

C’mon. We’ve seen much, much worse.

But Chicago Bulls guard Lonzo Ball is on her side. And if Reese has to pay a fine? He’s going to pick up the tab.

Ball posted on X (formerly Twitter) that he was at the game and had a message for Reese that the calls were “weak” and that he’d pay whatever fine there was:

Bonus: he’s impressed by Breanna Stewart:

Are we buying Lonzo Ball being back on the court with the Chicago Bulls at the start of the NBA regular season?

Do we believe that this time he is really going to get back in the court and stay there?

How much are we buying Lonzo Ball‘s claim he’ll be back on the court with the Chicago Bulls at the start of the NBA’s 2024-25 regular season? Ball has missed the majority of the last two and a half seasons with a complex and nagging knee injury, but reportedly is getting close to full health after an especially lengthy recovery.

Do we believe that this time he is really going to get back in the court and stay there? So much time has passed that even if he does make a successful comeback with Chicago, he has aged so much that he may no longer fit the plans of the organization.

The hosts of the “CHGO Bulls” podcast took a long and hard look at a potential Ball return, its plausibility given recent history, and what it might mean for the team moving forward.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what they had to say.
