Even though former New England Patriots offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia is going into the Patriots’ Hall of Fame, he’s also still going to bat for Logan Mankins, who he feels is more deserving of the honor.

Mankins, a longtime standout offensive guard, played for the Patriots from 2005-2015. He had a stellar career, making the Pro Bowl seven times in his 11-year career. He was named a First-Team All-Pro player with New England in 2010. As a former first-round draft pick, he was certainly able to prove his worth.

Scarnecchia got to see Mankins firsthand in an eight-year stretch, and he believes the legendary guard is worthy of a Pro Football Hall of Fame nod, not just the Patriots Hall of Fame.

In a weekly column, ESPN’s Mike Reiss wrote:

Longtime Patriots assistant coach Dante Scarnecchia, who will be inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame alongside Mike Vrabel on Oct. 21, shared last week that he’s having a tough time reconciling that former New England offensive lineman Logan Mankins isn’t going in instead of him. In fact, Scarnecchia said he feels so strongly about Mankins that he says Mankins is Pro Football Hall of Fame worthy in his eyes.

There is little doubting Scarnecchia’s resume during his time with New England. With that in mind, Mankins’ resume is clearly impressive in its own right.

70 days till Patriots season opener: Every player to wear No. 70 for New England

Here’s a list of every Patriots player to wear the No. 70 jersey number.

The regular season countdown has reached 70 days until kickoff for the New England Patriots.

So today, we’re looking at every Patriots player that has ever worn the No. 70 jersey in celebration of the rapidly approaching season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

There have been so many talented players that have worn No. 70 in New England, most notably Christian Barmore, Logan Mankins and Adrian Klemm in the Bill Belichick era of coaching.

Klemm, who was the first player drafted by Belichick in New England, is the Patriots’ current offensive line coach, while Barmore is a promising defensive talent potentially on the verge of a breakout year. Mankins, on the other hand, is a former six-time All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowl guard for New England.

Here’s a list of every player that has ever worn the No. 70 throughout franchise history (via Pro Football Reference):

2023 finalists for Patriots Hall of Fame announced

The three finalists for the Patriots Hall of Fame have been announced.

The New England Patriots have announced the 2023 finalists to be inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame. On Thursday, they revealed former coach Bill Parcells, linebacker Mike Vrabel and offensive guard Logan Mankins could be permanently enshrined with the other franchise all-time greats.

Mankins, a seven-time Pro Bowler and former first-team All-Pro offensive lineman, was a key cog along the Patriots’ offensive front and even made the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team. He helped keep legendary quarterback Tom Brady upright during some of the most prolific seasons of his career.

Parcells is already an NFL Hall of Famer and one of the greatest coaches in history. So it only makes sense for him to break into the Patriots Hall of Fame at some point.

Meanwhile, Vrabel would be a fun option as the current head coach for the Tennessee Titans. Even though he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers, he’s known more for what he did in New England side-by-side with Tedy Bruschi. He finished his career as a three-time Super Bowl champion and former first-team All-Pro linebacker.

Fans can cast their votes at Patriots.com for the next man to join former longtime offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia as the 2023 Patriots Hall of Fame inductees.

Patriots’ history with the franchise tag under Bill Belichick

Here’s a look at the Patriots’ franchise tag history under Bill Belichick.

New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick rarely leans on the franchise tag in present-day negotiations with pending free agents. There was a time when he used it frequently as a negotiating tactic, but in the last eight years, only one player has been franchise tagged by the Patriots.

That run of not tagging players will likely continue in 2023 with wide receiver Jakobi Meyers and cornerback Jonathan Jones being the only legitimate tag candidates on the roster.

That isn’t to suggest both players don’t deserve pay raises. But it’s hard envisioning Belichick and the Patriots footing the bill for a rising price tag at positions they can address through free agency and the draft.

Still, for fun, let’s take a look at all of the Patriots players that have been franchise tagged over the years by Belichick.

Vince Wilfork among finalists for Patriots Hall of Fame induction

the New England Patriots announced their Hall of Fame candidates on Tuesday.

The New England Patriots announced the three finalists for the team’s Hall of Fame on Tuesday. Offensive lineman Logan Mankins, linebacker Mike Vrabel, and defensive lineman Vince Wilfork are the finalists in this year’s class.

Mankins played nine of 11 NFL seasons with New England. He received several accolades over the course of his career. He was a first-round draft pick in 2005, and was named a three-time team captain of the Patriots. He earned six Pro Bowl selections and six All-Pro honors with the Patriots. He started 130 regular-season games and 17 postseason contests as a member of the Patriots.

Vrabel joined the team in free agency in the 2001 season, following time with the Pittsburgh Steelers. From there, he was a key part of three Patriots Super Bowl-winning teams. He played both inside and outside linebacker, and lined up on offense and special goal line receiving situations. All 10 of his catches went for touchdowns. Many may recall his touchdown reception against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl XXXIX.

Wifork played a big part in solidifying the interior of the Patriots defense during his career. He was drafted by the Patriots in 2004, and subsequently established himself as one of the premier defensive tackles in the game. He made the Pro Bowl five times, and was a first-team All-Pro in 2012. He tallied 561 tackles in his career and 16 quarterback sacks.

Each of these individuals made their mark in Patriots history. Now it’s up to the fans to decide the 2022 selection.

Tom Brady pays homage to his offensive linemen, both past and present

Bucs QB Tom Brady took to Instagram to show respect to his offensive linemen over the years.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded up a spot in last month’s NFL draft to select Iowa offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs with the 13th pick.

The Bucs were determined to walk away with one of the draft’s top-rated tackles given that Tom Brady will be taking over the reigns of the offense in 2020. The Buccaneers allowed Jameis Winston to be sacked 47 times last year, while Brady was only sacked 27 times with the Patriots.

The future Hall of Famer knows the importance of having strong linemen up front, and took to Instagram yesterday to pay homage to his linemen both past and present.

Take a look at some screenshots from his Instagram story.

The linemen featured are Matt Light and Marcus Cannon of the Patriots and Logan Mankins and Donovan Smith of the Bucs. Mankins actually played with Brady for years in New England before joining the Buccaneers.
